I am starting a grow journal for my barely finished year built grow and it is badass and working great...veg setup is a 4.5x4.5 sunhut tent...current culture 4 site 8gal however I upgraded their system as well better drain kit I end up with less than 100ml in ea bucket now which is wonderful..this run for veg i did use my alita 60 air pump and 2 large air stones per bucket..which is going to be the last time as I'm getting rid of them.i also do not use any soft airlines on my veg setup ran it with PVC manifold 1in and then went into 3/8 lldpe line to ea bucket where I have r/o bulkheads that are 3/8x1/4 and I tee them in the buckets so the leader lines are all the same size and easy to replace instead of running it all the way back...lights are hlg 288v2 @4000k x4 and I have side lighting too which are hlg qb132 v1 3500k x4...and they are growing some huge bitches... current nute line is the best liquid company cultured solutions well from what I have tried from others for rdwc. I run sterile with uc roots/h202 sometimes too kinda depends ..however I will never buy a liquid nute again and going powder like Jack's/Peter's 3-2-1...and call it a day...as I grow for personal use only so I do not make a dime on my harvest so any lil bit of efficiency to save money damn right I'm gna do it....I may even switch to a hpa setup and use 95% less water....

Bloom setup...quick qube 8x4 tent has a gazebo type frame and sooo badass...
Hlg qb320xl v1 x4 for lighting plus I have my meizhi cheap blurple leds however their bloom has 12 reds ea diff spec too and ir so I will run x2 of those lights as well but only to put them to sleep I'm thinkn and not do emerson effect however I might do 1 side...as i have x4 27gal totes 3in pvc cc bulkheads of course...i sooo cant wait to get home from the hospital and transplant into their new death row palace is what I been calling it ...got hyperfan 8in for bloom and ac infinity 6" for veg.......let's get these bitches stinky and fat whores lol thee one and only time u want those things lol heres some pics too I planted the seeds on 4/20 which are wet dream .....blue dream x lemon thai from Colorado cannabis seed bank is where I got them this is my 1st run with them so far so good...also what's crazy is my runt plant is thee biggest bitch I have right now....so how many of you would of thrown her away cuz shes smaller than the rest??

Nice roots!

I am wondering if, going with airstone, would it be better to put them near the surface instead of the bottom, to avoid shocking the roots.

Any idea/comment?

I'm confused your talking about airstones frome trying to raise them in the water or let them be on the bottom where they usually are...and if anything I think the airstone being raised would cause more root shock than them being on the bottom..with these shallow buckets it will not make a difference...plus this is pry my last run with airstones well for veg...since bloom is going to be uc rdwc waterfall and I plan on doing the same in veg too...get rid of airpumps and stones altogether....
I'm no longer running airstones in my superponics cloner either even just the pump runs 1min x3 a day during lights on only and they are doing wonderful just like that no airpumps no extra heat electricity plus bacteria and root disease it can cause in a heart beat.......theres much better ways to get d.o for plants....

Waterfalls are good no doubt but the bacteria is always present. If you have a healthy system or sterile you either have a healthy bacteria population that out competes bad bacteria or sterile where you kill all bacteria.

You need a pump to run your water and generally a larger than needed when running air stones to get enough pressure to agitate the water. I can't see much of a difference in heat. Air pumps are low wattage and don't produce much heat.. no more than a water pump.

Not at all bashing waterfalls I have used em for over 20 years in different applications and they are very effective and you can add on some things that make huge differences in a live system (non sterile). Just think some of the claims they make about comparing to air stones are a bit exaggerated.

I love your setup. Very clean and well thought out. Should be killer.

Ya I've been having great results going sterile from bennies and much much cheaper..I personally think using bennies in hydro is a total waste of money...but that's just me...
I'm sooooo glad I'm done building for a while as I have redone both veg and bloom x3 in the past year lol always improving and upgrading from the last...as I had dwc 5gal veg and 18gal dwc bloom...said fuck that I ended up buying a car trailer full of hydro shit like 20k worth for less than a grand...so then I went to rdwc with current culture shit I got as I have x3 16 sites still...and then I upgraded that with the drain lines as now with my new drain setup theres less than 150ml per bucket left over now only and that's cuz those buckets have x3 sections on the bottom vs flat...and I added tees no bs elbows....
Ya it sucks as my veg tent is setup with my alita60 and I built it to use with it instead of waterfall so will see next crop I'm gna take the air stones out and see how things work....

Ya this last build and design took me quite a while to get it to what I wanted and I wouldnt of done it any other way.... speaking of which gta go it's time to do a leak test on it and get the ladies moved to their DEATH ROW PALACE!!!!!! aka bloom lol

Finally got the hydro hybrid cloner done which is a low pressure aeroponics and fogponics..well the fogger will be here in a few days but everything is done and ready to grow and I'm excited to see how it will perform with having both systems I will not be running them at the same time keep in mind they will be offset of course esp with the foggers but it should be fun and time to put away the boring dwc w top feed cloner I been using which just isn't doing it for me as in for a cloner now I do like it for seeds esp with the top feed I run it x2 a day until the roots hit the water and done deal however the new cloner is gna be the star of the show for the cabinet that is lol...also nice the container is a 12gal but it will do about 4.5 gal full which is plenty for the new cloner so works for me and if I really really needed too I could always run a reservoir for it too but I think I'll be fine I may need it for the fogger tho but will see as I may have to get a fan and a hose on the upper part of the res to the cloner to blow the fog thru however I don't think I will need too plus I used 3in net pots with 2in collars and I cut the bottoms off the net pots and I hotglued them in from the inside lid and it works out great...also alot of people I see who build aero cloners of d.i.y they always use silicone to seal the lid and then they rip the lid off every grow and sterlize it clean the silicone off reapply it etc and I wasn't abouts to do that bs every grow and can't get see inside unless maybe a netpot which isn't much so I made my own gasket with some 1/8in landau foam I had laying around I hot glued it and it worked out great I still have easy access to the inside lid check on roots and misters etc I did put a fill tube on it which I do with all of my dwc buckets as it's a must have. As not only is it just a tube that shows the water level but for me I use it to drain as mine has a 1/2in tube that fits on all pumps just about so attach the pump to drain it and u can tilt it when it gets low and get all and then fill it back up from the top...I will use the tube to take my sample for checking ppm,pH and I will change it from the tube too and add it thru the tube I will use a turkey baster and squeeze it thru the tube to mix the nutes or pH and then check the sample and go from there u never have to take the lid off which it does wonders and the electrical cables go thru a 2in collar and it's glued too on the inside that one is the collar only no net pot.. .so stay tuned
Also I have a experiment going with a mason jar and using phd r/o nute water it's been 3 weeks now and they haven't had a issue and it's a mason jar only no air stones or anything and they are the same size as the ones in the dwc top fed setup and tomorrow I will be taking clones chopping them in half just about lol and then those clones will be going in the lpa cloner and the bottom part will go into some mason jars as the superponics cloner is getting a break for now but will see for how long as like I said I am fond of the top feed for seeds and seedlings tbh ...but as you can see in the pics they do fit in there but it is a extremely tight fight so will see aboot that one

So this grow was a complete waste of time as WK 3 flower and they all hermied so it's all trash and 5mo was all for not!!!!
Not buying seeds from gps again that's for sure!!!pollen chucking is not breeding!!!!! And that's all they do and has all customers as testers!!! Which is complete bs

Indiva710

Indiva710

Yeah it does suck getting screwed paying $84 for a pack of 10 and they all hermied the 3 males I had did the exact same thing ....yeah actually I'm thinking about changing my setup and going with the bucket company instead of c.c rdwc...as I can do the samething and not have to have 40-150gal in the system leak out at the same time and flood my basement would def not be good...now I do have a water alarm in there so if it leaks I will know where it's at and coming from as there is soooo many pieces that can give u issues...now don't get me wrong I love rdwc but the bucket company would be super dope thinkn about doing their 1.2gal possibly the 3gal for veg but seen some massive plants go from 1.2-10gal however the 5gal I would pry be just fine..however I would like to make my 2x2 cabinet in half and put 2 real levels on it which I'll be doing soon

TheBioMaster

TheBioMaster

Just a FYI.......when one plant hermies, it's usually genetics.......but when ALL your plants hermie like that, it's usually stress related, and not genetics.

Indiva710

Indiva710

Don't see how that's possible as they wasn't stressed everything is dialed in except for bs genetics and since it was jelly pie from gps which lots of others has the same problem due to bs genetics pollen chucking and not stress testing their strains prior to selling them...as a plant shouldn't Hermie from stress that's shitty GENETICS PERIOD!!!!! However those days are gone as got me some fire that's proven to be true plants and it's going to be a great grow as well..got sin, runtz, Topanga going right now and going to be fire...and the males that turned into females had no stress in their cabinet and yet they hermied as well as the males I don't super crop them and just let em grow and yet they still hermied... Shitty genetics bro.. period

+1
Good luck in your future endeavors. Great looking system. I have heard good things about the bucket system. Happy grows.

Appreciate it ya I'm just trying to figure out what bucket company setup I should get that will be best for me....kinda thinking about 1.2gal for veg and either 3 or 5gal bloom ...I need to get it going anyways as I would like to step back from u.c rdwc and get the same results with the bucket company and not have to have all that water running...as all it takes is 1 leak and I'll have 40gal for veg drained and 150gal in bloom which would destroy my basement so..which is why I'm going to be. Checking out the bucket company...as they are exactly what I'm looking for....just need to get it all figured out and mapped out and ordered here shortly.....I will def post updates of the new setup..
Might start a new grow journal for my current crop tho which I have sin, runtz, Topanga that will be a killer grow as hundreds of plants gone thru for these clones so fire and tried and true stable plants they Are And perfect to me

I mean if you run 3 gal pots you could fit a bit more. And unless your growing monsters, why 5 gal? I used 5 gal smart pots this run and I don’t think I’ll use 5 gal again, I’m in soil now but I feel they stay moist for too long. I like feeding less, more often. Yah, flooded basement is no bueno. That’s another monster. Happy grows brotha.

My veg setup now uses the 8gal ez store buckets which is what current culture used before they made their own molds....and I'm talking about the bucket company only specific for my new setup which they have 3gal or their new 5gal...now t.b.c you can setup it to run hydro or Coco flood n drain or drain 2 waist can do dwc etc and I've seen a commerical op have 3ft tall plants with the 1.2gal bucket company setup...and now I'll pry just do 3gal as I will have x4 3gal in a 4x4 so I don't need 10gal per plant for that small of area and the 3gal would be fine as I will have x8 in a 8x4...and they are still 13x13in per 3gal.....check out the bucket company if you have not already...as they use mesh net bags not fabric pots that holds moisture

Yeah I have seen the mesh they use. I know there was someone here a while ago that posted their grow and they were using the bucket company. Might have been ages ago and an old thread i saw. Sooner or later I wanna run an auto feed system, drain to waste, but for now I need to get through my first couple runs and then I’ll figure it out. You seem very knowledgeable, I’ll def stick around for your journey brotha.
