I spend far too much time on the farm these days. Got laid of from my job as of the 1st, economic times finally hit me where it hurts. So, it seems that it's good bye to traffic accident reconstruction and hello to full time growing. Weird too, as my father was my employer.

I may be pontificating here, but i've been wanting to do this work as my life project for going on 3 years now. I enjoy growing, it's good work. Something about a hard days work in the garden while smoking your herb is very rewarding. Just trying to keep on the sunny side of this news i guess. Might even hit college up again for a biology degree. Shit, someone needs to map all the cannabis turpins out there, mine as well be me right?

Just to vent a little, sorry about jumping around, but partial reasoning behind my lay off was my parents interest in divorce. I'm 26 and it amazes me how much my parents relationship effects my life. 32 years of marriage is nothing to scoff at, yet it seems it isn't everything either. I dunno, i wish them both to be happy in whatever choice they arrive at. Sucks that it's a major shit storm in life, though.

Anyway, if you're stuck in this day in and day out grind of finding something to do you found the right thread. Post up about your lay off, lack of work, crappy dealings with unemployment, or whatever.

Cheers!:animbong:

Roadpizza: i hear you on that. There is a lake near me and i have a killer tan coming along due to lack of work. Maybe it's a blessing in disguise. haha. Speaking of house work, i should be cleaning mine.

Reelbusy: thanks for you best wishes. I hope they find happiness too, but who's to say. My dad has gone the ultra religious route ( i used to be, but am now athiest) so you can imagine that strains our relationship a bit. Mom seems to be partying her butt off. :\ I swear if i see her out on the town at a club im going to shoot myself, haha.

ismokepot: Sometimes i wanna kill my parents, im pretty sure that's a feeling we all get from time to time. I have actually been hanging out with him more after leaving his employ. Seems like we might be able to find out what a Father Son relationship is like as opposed to boss/employee. 20year's is a long while, any tips you have would be greatly appreciated.

Hey Mace - I'm about 10 years older than you, have a wife and 5 month old baby, and I've just finished a PhD after 5 years. Now I'm more qualified I can't find work for love nor money....partially to do with a radical career change and partially to do with the state of the global and domestic economies. I used to earn a 6 figure salary but now I can't find jack shit - like any experience I have is worthless. I may have to lie about having the PhD to find work...how fucked up is that? To spend 5 years doing really hard graft, to achieve something amazingly difficult, and then to just blow it off because people seem to hate you for it.

So yeah, it's all fucked. I'm not a pro farmer or a commercial farmer, but if my situation doesn't improve then I'll have no choice but to pro farm just to pay the mortgage and feed the family.

If things don't work out here I'm a dual national....will head to the US to look....in the very least if i can't find work in my specialist subject then I'll find a prop 215 state and grow legally for someone who can't for themselves.....(obviously the wife isn't thrilled with that plan)...maybe even try to supply a dispensary or something.

Fingers crossed this shitstorm is only for 2009 and that 2010 is a better year with more opportunities....

hey mace sorry to here about that shit dude.

its all good tho bro what the fuck do us farmers need jobs for (yeah fair enuff it keeps some of us sane) but we can make money off of the green we smoke everyday like you say yourself,im only 18 and still havent had a job since i left school lmao (not that its something im proud of):thinking but most of my friends who have been doing apprenticeships/college/university or had job's......when they have been going out getting smashed on a weekend as us young lads do i have always been there buy their side and ended up with more money at the end of the weekend lol .......on supposedly a JSA (job seeker allowance) income. i love my life most times but sometimes gets me realy down because i dont know where im guna end up.hopefully should change soon tho as going to college to study media :anim_44: so things should be better for the future (plus there be way more studies to sell weed to) lmao oj

Yeah, sorry to hear Mace. But don't kill your parents dude...lol. It is wise to remember that parents are people too and they have their own learning curve to deal with as well. I know when i was younger I thought, well, they're my parents and therefore they must surely know the right answer to every little thing...until I became a parent and realized that that too is a learning experience.
Good luck on the job scene...I know growing has gotten me through several times of unemployment and will again should the time arise. Just make sure to claim some self employment income for taxes at the end of the year. Always a smart idea to have some declarable income to explain the bills away.
Good luck to all by the way. These are some tough economic times. Not gonna be easy to survive for some, but we'll get through it. My father was fond of saying, "this too will pass."

That does suck to get laid off Mace..happens to the best of us. At least you still have dank to smoke and it's always been my dream to just be a legal pro- grower..give me some acres of land and that's all I need. Making millions, smoking the best dank in the world, soaking in the sunshine outdoors.....ONe day, one day..that dream will come true!

Until then, best of luck to you and your parents. Keep on growing!

Purty much sums it fer me!!!
After years being a Heavy Equipment Operator.

Even left holding the bag on insurance that I had barely used over the years, CANCELED..... but now need to finish a kidney diagnoses. THEY say I have too much protein in my urine. ie. Blood.

Firing up the FOR PROFIT GROW!
It's either that or lose my house and the ability to support my family.
The past grows have been for personals and friends.
I'm 44, been married for near on 20 years, have two boys ages 15 & 13.
Always been a nice guy to most peeps.... freebies..... beers.... stash.... cash.... but when I need a hand no ones around...... the world really is all about ME isn't it!?!?!
:devil
Fookem.... the wankers...... No more discounts either!

Well not really.... there's still plenty of good people left in the world... it's just that you have to keep your watchful eye out to find em. And keep your GOOD old friends close!

Medbotany: Sorry to hear about your foot. I hope all goes well with the healing process and the garden turns out a bountiful harvest for you. thank you for your well wishes.

Fastforward: i've never been more convinced in my life that the collegiate system is a outdated model and more a scam now than anything. You pay so much money to be treated like a herd animal and learn from a tenure professor that most likely stopped learning when he got his contract. I dont mean that to downplay your hard work, i just hope that you can find something in your field of expertise that interest you and can provide for your family. Best wishes friend. And if need be, i'd recommend cali for the move.

Shiva: good on you for staying away from the booze as much as possible. I'd prefer a nice high over a drunken state anyday. Im sure if you work hard and get your media on the net with a few viral compaigns things could take off big for you. With the way media is working these days it's all about find a niche. Hope all turns out well for you, friend.

Papa Kush: Thank you sir, i do try to look on the bright side of things. If you're in a rut there is no way out if you can't imagine it, right? And yes, a good days work is very rewarding. I too love just being able to go look at the girls without needing to do anything to them that day. Sometimes just hanging with the plants is a great way to spend the morning. Good growing, sir.

Texas: Yes, i couldn't agree more. When throwing a situation you can really make some big moves in your life. I hate corporate life so maybe this is a big step in the right direction. Thanks for your encouragement.

Sour power: While farming is very rewarding, i hope what you're looking for comes through for you.

highroller: i'm learning more and more that they are mear humans. I don't even hold the same ideological beliefs as them anymore, which adds to the strain. But i digress, they seemed to do decent with each other today for fathers day. I hope they pull through it but only time shall tell. And thanks for reminding me about taxes, even if we all hate them, lol.

Milehighchic: Thanks for your well wishes. And you're right, there is plenty of ways to make it in this industry. Even though i live in cali and am legal things are still a bit grey in the laws. I just want to run low on the radar and make enough to pay the bills. Im sure one day your dream will be achievable without anyone making a fuss that you're growing a plant.

Fred: I wish you the best in your growing and i hope your medical issues aren't too serious. Having a family must put an extra burden in your mind for choosing the growing route, but i truly hope it pans out. I too am generous in times of plenty, and luckily the friends that have taken the charity in the past are happily helping me in return. Im sorry to hear that others haven't been as kind to you. It's true, keep your friends close. Just have to make sure they are real about the person they are portraying themselves to be. Keep going, man. The worst of it is now, right? tomorrow can only be better.

Thanks mace!
I don't think the medical is too serious at this time... the CT scan came back showing cysts on both kidney's...... no biggy on that...... but what does have the Doc's curious is why there's so much blood in my urine, cyst's shouldn't cause that much. So they wanna guinea pig me, at my expense, to find out why. I just find it amazing that these Doc's can't look this shit up in a book! Small town doc's and hospitals looking to pay the bills I guess!
I should just head off to a well known research hospital a few hours away where I can get real answers FAST! But then those guys want paid too... so gotta come up with some cash first so I can get my insurance reinstated.

Raising a family is challenging from time to time, this is just one of those times it's a bit rough... good times are just around the corner!
The grow will work out just GRAND I think. And yes I still have those handful of OLD Friends that we would each put our lives on the line for. It's just those folks you've helped in the past give a leg up now seem to think I don't need the same favor in return..... showing true colors now I guess... life goes on.... and I'll still help those in need in the future, just the way I am.

I guess it all really comes down to what you wanna do with your life, what makes you happy. I like smoking and growing and traveling.
Don't get me wrong I love operating equipment, damned fun job and something you can take pride in when the job is finished. I just hate working for assholes that think they're better then you and the paranoia of pee tests... not that I'd actually pee in the bottle, thats just WRONG to incriminated yourself. It's just that you get fired if you don't pee..... then waiting around for the Hall to call for another job.
This could turn out to be the best thing for me..... growing full time and maybe next year working construction part time. "Sorry guys, won't be in next week I'm off to Amsterdam!"....... then a month later when it's really hot out in August..... "I'm off to the Swiss Alps for a visit with some buddies."
It's actually something I've pondered for a couple years now...... I just needed a push I guess.

My dad has never been a friend or anything else for that matter. He did tell me in 1969 that I cannot continue to smoke for the rest of my life (I was 16 then). As usual ,he talks with shit in his mouth.Anyway, this was not my reason to say hello to you.I have grown the occassional plant in & outside of the home. I live in Florida who is gone to vert stringent laws on what we do .I would love to move to Garberville,Calif. only because it seems like the ideal place for me.Only thing is ,I do not know anyone in that part of the state.Obviously I just burned and am rattling along here & hope you are still there for this question. How many acres does the farmers own on an average and what is the allowable amount of plants they can legally have? You seem cool enough to ask, but,if I am bothering you,I will send this question to the forum as a blog. Thanks for being on this planet,Tommy
