I couldn't find any on the local Craig's list, and paid $195 for a 6.2 cfm pump new off E-Bay.

i found some vacuum check valves at anver.com that allows you to hold a vac. i then let me vac pump every so often via a timer to purge the chamber. sadly, it is hard to determine which vac pumps will hold a neg pressure when turned off.

Maybe some discussion will lead to a more optimal method, for instance a electric vac pump that will take that pressure down into the -30 range.

what vessel are you using there to vacuum pump it? it doesn't look like it would create a seal.
