What’s been your most wasteful purchase?

I’d vote my most unnecessary purchase was this gimmicky indoor grow cabinet by SuperClosets. I was sold by the discrete appearance, except it isn’t discrete at all. It’s loud af with the exhaust fans and yeah, it isn’t worth $2500. The hydroponic system only holds 3” net cups. 16 of them. What happens when the plant grows?

The Kind X330 LED light that came with it seems decent but I have no basis of comparison. It took a shit but they sent me a replacement at no charge to me.

I think I’ll try the AC infinity tent system next go.
I just took this picture after learning about light leaks and how important it is in growing indoors. The doors have a rubber seal around all the edges but they are ineffective.

Again, I bought this “stealthy” grow cabinet because I was a dumb ass and was sold on the discreet nature of it. LMAO.

Also they claim they grow FOUR plants in there. I call bullshit. Anyway, already ordered a new 3x3 to replace it.
Here’s a pic with lights off in the room:

I don’t know how beneficial this topic will be but I’m hoping I can learn for my future grows.

What has been your most wasteful purchase? Something you bought expecting to use but never did, something you bought and only used once, something that didn’t do what it was supposed to do, etc…

I’m a new grower so I don’t know what that purchase is yet, I’m sure I’ll make a few..
Biobizz😂

First would be I purchased a way undersized inline exhaust fan, always go bigger! I ended up using the smaller inline fan for an active intake so wasn't actually a waste, other then a little electricity. Wrong or cheap equipment is definitely a big expense for lots of growers, buy from someone with a great warranty and customer service!

My second would be Stealth Box cabinet a few years ago, this was my first purchase I made to start my growing journey, before I knew anything about cannabis other then smoking it.
It's a 4 plant small metal cabinet 20"x20"x36". Retail was $1100 but they were having a $300 off sale, I thought I was getting a deal so I purchased it for $800. It arrived with welds broke, light not working, and a couple dents. I contacted customer service and they sent me out another and the replacement arrived in good shape. I got to keep the damaged one and ended up welding the breaks and fixing the light, so I got 2 for less then the price of 1. The fans are quiet and there's no smell but there is large light leaks around the doors. The lights give out around 500 ppfd from 8". I harvested 13 grows from these small cabinets but it took until I was researching my tent setup before purchasing that I realized the Stealth Box was a costly purchase. Yes I still saved money by growing, I ended up with 2 for less then the price of 1, and my best harvest was 8.5 ounces from 1 box but my 8x4 AC Infinity tent with all AC Infinity equipment, two 400 watt Vivosun lights, and planter/drip kit from The Bucket Company cost less then the retail price of the Stealth Box. I now have new uses for the Stealth Boxes but I wish I would of did the research up front and made a different purchase.

How small we talking here? I think 85% of people use in-line exhaust fans that are way overkill. LOL.

I run a 6” Ipower 120cfm unit that I paid $19.00 for. It moves plenty of air and has been cranking well 24/7 for 3 years straight. Draws 36W max (adjustable) and it’s fairly quiet.

That's what I planned on buying with that sites speed controller. 30 bucks altogether.

I'm cheap...I buy at the last minute usually as I do a LOT of research. I haven't made a purchase I regret yet. Maybe the little mars hydro light I got but it did what it was supposed to do. Yea. No regrets here.

It was a 4" for a 8x4 tent.
I ended up getting a 8" instead and using the 4" for intake. I have the minimum speed setting for the 8" exhaust at 3 with a 2 degree transition trigger starting at 78 degrees, it's highest speed its been at with these settings is 6. I run the 4" intake at a minimum speed of 5 with a 2 degree transition trigger starting at 78, it's gone as high as 8 with these settings.
This was early on before I figured out all the heating/cooling and humidity variables, now my exhaust rarely goes over 4 and intake rarely over 6 now, might get a 5 and 7 once in awhile during flower when lights are all the way up.

Yeah. Prices went up. :(

I bought it before they put the Ipower name on them. Maybe it is 174cfm. I could have sworn it was advertised around 100. Feels closer to 200cfm on max though.

Ok ok. 4” for a 4X8…. Yeah. That’s a little on the small side LOL.

I was looking at 4 inch. Didn't know I needed more until recently. I'm thinking 6 inch exhaust cheap air intake

Definitely want 6” for a 2X4, 4X4, or 3X5. I don’t run an intake. Just open vents to allow vacuum to pull air in.
Ok I like that. Im getting two 5×5 and two 6 inch I power fans. That should start me off.

Intakes, in most cases, are definitely not needed. I only did because I purchased the wrong size to begin with so I didn't want it to go to waste, it actually worked out better for me for heating and cooling reasons though.
