It doesn't hurt to let the soil get dry and the leaves get droopy, it's way better than trying to fix a water logged plant...or a drowned plant. Do you not pinch the colas to double up? Like, in veg, make as many tops as you can by either topping or fimming?

I didn’t top them, but did do a half hearted attempt at low stress training....but they were so short and rigid, it felt like I would snap the stem. I think I’ll try photos my next run and not have every mistake magnified. Then I’ll def top.
