Whats this on this test cut?

I keep a cut clone in a glass whenever I prune just to keep an eye on em. What is the brown stuff? Just algae?

Probably diatoms and harmless .
They go away after they consume whatever they eat .
In aquariums it could take months .
You could just wipe it away ?

I leave the cut in the glass until it dies or roots. Its just to see if they're gunna get mildew or whatnot. Been having some water quality issues in think becuase of heavy rains. So I'm doing my next batches of clones in rapid rooters instead of a water cloner. If it roots at all I stick it in a small pot. And see how much pesticide and neglect it can handle.
