Yea, and startup would probablly fry ur shit, lol. 12 lights is 54 amps thru a 60 amp rated setup.. Thats less than 10% safety margin..

In the code book wire size is at 125% of over current protection, so a 50 amp circuit can handle 50 amps. Please get an electrician, and sleep better. Also there were 5 self help electrical books (Lowes , Home Depot)just recalled due to BAD i.e. incorrect diagrams and instructions. Do a search to see if you might have gotten one. Please bros don't want anyone getting hurt or KILLED. No kidding. Peace

Directions? I have teh interwebs, wtf I need a book for?

Ok true stupid stoner move.. Im at my block with the circut "off" and everything wired up but "off". Im so excited about getting it done, i forget to turn off the main before I slam the circut breaker home... LOL Took me like 2 seconds after I did it to realize I neglected to turn off the main first. Since the breaker was in the off position I guess no harm no foul, but still..

cap mlc-8x

There should have been instructions with the CAP MLC-8, or you can log onto their website and look up the installation instructions. 8 guage wire is the minimum you should use, I would recommend using 6 awg. The total current draw for 8 x 1000W ballasts @ 240V will be approximately 40A. Best would be to use a 50A two-pole breaker.

Olyver

wouldnt current for this circuit be 8000w\240v= 33.33a? The 80% rule would only allow 32a max current for a 40a breaker, correct? So, go with a 50a breaker and #6 wire?

ok, so two #6's and a 50a two-pole breaker... how big should the ground be? I am wanting to stuff it all into a 1/2" emt run...

olyver , could i but a sub pannel and outlets from you ? I gave a 200 amp main pannel , that maby uses at the most 75 am amps , i want to use a 100 amp sub pannel , with the option to run 6 1000 w lights on one row of outlets , at 240 and then the rest of my stuff at 110 .. I would prefer if the lights had there own indivual 15 amp breakers. how much would this cost me ? no timer needed thanks . I am a diesel mechanic and i understand circuts and current flow pretty well , but not to your caliber , I would sleep much better at nights knowing that it was built by a pro .. thanks .

I ran 4 awg into my cap box......40 amp breaker. I just plug in a couple of 1k's though. Number 4 wiring is very hard to work with and is definite overkill, however, I do feel good knowing that the wiring will never get hot...6 awg is plenty as Olyver suggests and a bit easier to work with.
