In BC for the last 20 years or so all the growers I know have used the same trimming crew. They're a group of ladies between 20 and 60 years old and they work crazy fast, but also charge $30/hr cash per worker. They travel all over the province trimming large medical grows. Some crews charge by the wet pound as well. One girl I had a conversation with works one month on, one month off all year and clears almost $100000 a year cash. She spends every other month on a warm beach somewhere...That has to be the job from hell ... trimming!
Damn, for 100grand a year I might be able to tolerate it lol.In BC for the last 20 years or so all the growers I know have used the same trimming crew. I agree though, I trim for an hour and never want to look at bud again. I cant stand it.
No kidding. She made as much as the grower lol.Damn, for 100grand a year I might be able to tolerate it lol.
Everyone here still pays it. The grower collective I know is a huge local employer. One Black market grower I know employs about 30 people full time. It's not just about making good money for the grower, it's about everyone in the collective making a good living. Were all friends here and everyone helps each other out. And currently prices are about $1500 CDN wholesale per pound. It was as low as $1100 a few years ago. The only way people wont be paid well is if the govt succeeds in shutting down the black market. With the new low pound prices the old school trimmers are not going to make money like that anymore either.
Those fees were paid by growers i knew when it was 4k per pound.

There is quite a few trim crews that charge by the wet pound too. This crew my friends use is all hourly though. But like I said they're fast. 4 ladies would take down and trim an average of about 8-10 pounds (Dry weight) in an 8 hr day. They use a machine for anything smaller than a golf ball and hand trim the rest. One woman breaks down the plants, one runs the machine and the other two hand trim with lightning fast scissor hands.Hourly pay for trimming, that's interesting. I've only seen trimmers get paid per lb. trimmed in Humboldt.. My wife used to trim out there. You're right though, most of them work and don't leave the site for a month or two, and then get on a plane and disappear to the Bahamas or something for a month. That's part of the reason for all the missing people signs you see on the walls at the stores out there. It's not that they're in trouble, they just don't want to be found, they're on vacation ;P
Again, I agree that's how most operate. It does give incentive to work faster. These girls have a system and they all work fast and work together as a team though. I'm sure they do work for "by the pound" rates for other people. For the guys I know, they've always been paid hourly to take down and process a room. Slow trimmers I agree by the pound is the way to pay.Everyone i know pays by the pound now in the states and i know thats true for my buddies OP up in vancouver BC also. Some people trim fast as hell and others take all day to trim a few ounces so if you pay hourly how is that fair?We just had this conversation the other day and it seems going rates are between 100-150 a P.
Lol so if your slow your going to be lucky to make $100 a day.Everyone i know pays by the pound now in the states and i know thats true for my buddies OP up in vancouver BC also. Some people trim fast as hell and others take all day to trim a few ounces so if you pay hourly how is that fair?We just had this conversation the other day and it seems going rates are between 100-150 a P.
Good point. The crew we use is super efficient and they all get along though. But yeah the whole "pay per pound" thing came about as a result of slow trimmers. No doubt. It's why we've used the same crew for so many years. They work hard and make great money doing it. The growers here dont pay just anyone off the street $30/hr... Only the experienced and trusted trimming crew gets that rate.Lol so if your slow your going to be lucky to make $100 a day.
Usually if people are paying by the hour the grower has to be on top of those trashy trimmers. They will turn the show into a party if you don’t stay on their ass. It only takes one loud mouth to offset the train.
I wasnt looking at the industry as a whole... lotz more to it than i thought. I was thinking $12 an hour behind a counter weighing out grams and shoot’n the shit about weed all day, get all jacked up on coffee and bullshit all day :0)
I dont like that :crying2:They make you roll joints all your idle time I bet and pay minimum wage.
This is exactly why is wrong with the industry black and white today. In no way shape or form should a trimmer ever get paid $30 an hour. That is just silly.Good point. That said, I have had to hire trimmers that just sucked and spent more time yapping than working when the regular crew was busy elsewhere. They didnt last more than a day.
