Hey CJ,
Im starting another project and typically use mini's with success, however I dont have space for all the compressors.
Single room with single phase electricity. 24k overheads straight up. Nothing vented, sealed very well.
Ballasts will be removed. Math seems to work out to about 10tons.. sound about right?

We have a small concrete pad behind the building. Was gonna drill and epoxy some all thread to secure em a little, my main question really is, what can I do with single phase inexpensively that can cool this pod effectively? 2 home 5 tons with simple air handlers and thermostats and duct gonna get it done?

10 tons may be borderline. I always recommend 12 for what you are doing. With that said 95% of the time 10 tons should be fine. Don't need to secure the outside units that well. Just 2 or 3 small L brackets with some 1/4" anchors will be more than sufficient. Residential units will suffice.

are there any new mini splits that have a remote thermostat option other than the mitsubishi?

Okay, I started a thread about this before noticing this thread:

I'm moving into a new place and gunning for something a little risky as it pertains to heat this go around. I'll start by saying that I've run sealed in the past. The room was approximately 22x10 in a basement (one of the walls was made of only panda film) with 3600 watts of light (1200 watts were LED), The CO2 was a joke (CO2 buckets), the lights were not air cooled and believe it or not but 5,000 BTU a/c was able to cool the room...

This go around the flowering room is going to be 12x12 completely constructed of wood framing and panda film within a basement, 4,000 watts of HID light, Co2 generator, 50 pint dehumidifier, 12,000 btu window a/c and I'm hoping to not have to vent the lights. Will this work? Based on past experience I think it's borderline...

I use 4000 btus per 1 kw fixture if lights are vented and 6000 if not vented. The protects you thru all weather. The actual number is 3413 per science which leaves you short on all accounts.

So if was running 10k in a sealed room thats about 20x20 then I need 60,000 BTU? seems like overkill? this is with open hoods by the way and I have to 2 24,000 btu window units for this room already but havent finished installing acs. I build boxes for them and exhaust the heat with fans.

FYI it gets over 100 degrees where im at and this room will run at night, Room is sealed and insulated with Permafrost Rmax thats rated r-5.

IMO better safe than sorry. I have seen rooms that run on less. But do you want a problem and lose a crop?

Do not know. I use those figures because I can not account for all variables without doing a heat load calc. That is expensive. I want to be safe not sorry.

I have a idea. Run the two ac's so have 4 tons and then supplement with Ice Boxes ad a chiller.I read that each ice box cools about 6k btu so with two of those I can have total of 5 tons. You think for sure 5 tons will do it?

Hey CJ im looking at a mitzubishi P series 12k or 18k budget permitting- PKA-A18GA . I like the low ambient feature for a Canadian winter. it also says Ultra low ambiet feature with factory add on (I can run the unit in -40C), what does that mean ?do I have to ask for it when I oreder? also do I want heat pump or no heat pump ? ive wanted a mitzubishi since I started reading on sealed rooms with bare bulbs. they have no prices but im looking at the units on hvacforlife.com. Where you are nd Work generally whats the cost of hiring a tech to install at home? thanks for your help

Also wondering about the wiring since its a commercial Unit . Can it be wired to a fuse panel ? the place is ESA certified

Yes you need to ask or order the really low temp device. I charge about $400-500 for an install without he main electrical. Yes you can wire it to the panel. Check voltage of panel and unit to make sure they match.

the voltage is 208-230v. the panel I think is 120-240v so I guess we are good . the quote I got for the unit was 4750$ I was expecting around 2500$ I know these are top of the line . are the commercial units more expensive or is this just a rip off?

Wow that is pricey. The unit is about $2000 or less here in the states.

Hi CB, Just installed my 2nd 30k btu LG for a total of 60k btu's. room is approx 30 x 10(on one end and 15' on the other, triangular kinda?), dual dehumid, 4 burner CO2 generator, ballasts all outside room running 7400w bare bulb verts, 10 wall fans. Seems the AC's can't keep my temps where i want them. got (4) different thermometers throughout the rooms. I have the AC's about 15' apart from each other on the same side. What do you think?
