My first clones ever cut too so also an experiment

I just built a new veg shelf, wrapped and lined everything in panda film. Check it out
20150726 095528

Its about 4 feet wide 2 feet deep and 5 1/2 feet tall. it has two sections, one top shelf for smaller plants and starts. and one lower area for mothers. currently only using the top shelf

So. Once i did this i cut open my bigger room (it was split in half for veg and flower) and turned it into one big flower room again. Its about 8 feet wide so i can hang a second light !!! Stoked check it out

These four pretty girls are on day 7 of flower. But tonight will be dark cycle 8. Which day do i count it by? The first day after i give it its first dark cycle, or the day of you setting your timer to go off for 12 hrs. Lol. Ummm...?

Beans are on day 14. Need to repot. Currently washing pots to transplant
20150726 095722

My current veg plants were given to me by a friend i dont know what day they are. All i know is growth is too dang slow under this 50w l.e.d.... all these plants were just topped prior to this picture

Currently feeding them 750-800 ppms of NFTG along with bio bizz algae/kelp and a pho booster by roots organic.

Can anyone suggest a good way to feed sugar? I know i need molasses but i don't know what i need to break it down

Thanks for checkin out the thread!

I use grandmas unsulfered molasses you can get a your local grocery store. I use 1 tsp per gallon just add to water and shake until it's all mixed

Ive heard recently that molasses dna structure is too complex for the roots to break down. Supposedly there's a certain type of acid, Humic or other, that will help break this stuff down so your plant can immediately uptake it.

I also heard that if you use molasses a lot it will eventually suffocate the roots unless you break it down for the plant

400 watt mh would work grat

That just might be too much heat for me to counteract. I was thinking a large t5. Like 4 bulb 4 foot. There's spectrum tubes you can get for them t5s! Woo. Grow on. Maybe an l.e.d. if i could afford a good one for veg

I never heard that about molasses I use like I said above with no problems my plants uptake it just fine. Mars hydro LEDs are pretty good for the price.

When he says break it down, i think what his source could mean is by using micros. Kind of same principle as compost teas. For example: when I brew compost teas, I basically start with molasses mixed water. The water needs to be chlorine free or it may kill the biology you are trying to cultivate. And it needs to be aerated (I suggest using a good size fish tank pump because I noticed a decline in the process as the air stone gets clogged). Then I introduce a source of beneficial micros such as worm castings, or commercially packages, etc. I also use alfalfa and kelp meals for other sources of micros and organic material for the micros to feed on. I put all of that in a type of tea bag-like thing and let it "brew" for a day or two. The micros break down the carbohydrates in the molasses (and some of the organic material) and eventually die off. The resulting liquid mix is kind of like the basics of what the roots actually uptake. Whereas the molasses itself has solely been used to feed the beneficial micros (or mykos, or bio, or whatever).

Sorry, just got pretty baked and just kept on typing...

This is my take on it, anyway

My thoughts are that even if you feed it directly to the soil, (in small amounts to not get any build up, especially since molasses changes the ph a lot) then the micros in the soil, assuming you added them (inoculated) or they are already in your soil/mix, will still slowly consume and process the sugars. But it would not happen in such a rapid process as a compost tea environment - so be careful not to overdo it.

Im definitely leaning away from coco, back towards organic living soil and teas. For now im sticking with my bottle nutes, but pretty soon here ill go on a knowledge quest and learn everything i posaibly can.

The firs thing i wanted to learn about is costs so i can put a realistic time frame on switching over to teas. I WANT to obviously, just cant if its a 500$ endeavor just to get it setup and going. Are there ghetto ways of preparing tea in a diy setup?

I bought a trash can (20-gallon) for $13, air stone for $2, pump for like $15-20, air line for $5. After that you just need stuff to put in the bags. Oh, I bought those party favor bags, mesh, that people use for weddings from Amazon for $12 for a hundred. A box of Alfalfa, one of blood meal, and one of kelp meal were about $10 each. A 20lb bag of worm castings costs me about $17. That is all I can think about..though I just woke up.

But to be fully honest, I went a whole year doing teas and I am actually going to go back to bottle nutes this next year. The teas are great and once you get the correct balance, the plants love them, but the ease of just mixing a batch from bottle nutes and not having to wait or guess/plan ahead 24-48 hours is very convenient. When I say guess/plan ahead, I mean you have to gauge and really know when your soil is going to be dry/need-watering in a day or two from when you start the brew. It isn't too bad once you get used to it. But, like me, I have several plants and they don't all require watering at the same time either which makes it tougher. And my available time is depleting with my son now passing 1 year old, he is getting to be more and more fun to do stuff with and I find myself gardening a little less and less. Plus, the bottle nutes are super straight forward.

Not to dissuade you, of course. I would at least suggest trying everything and then choosing what works best for you!

Mine is just a 5 gal bucket with two little aquarium pumps. Some molasses, and EWC In between General Organics feeding and molasses.
I was told the molasses brings out the aroma and taste terpenes of the bud..

First of all id like to thank you guys for tuning in and helping me out. My first indoor grow is tons of fun and informative. im learning everyday, partly thanks to you guys. So...thanks!

I built the bottom of my shelf out and transplanted my next cycle. A few sati dom. A couple indica dom.
20150815 202830

They were uppotted to 2 gal with a mix of 4 parts happy frog 2 parts perlite 1 part worm castings mix. With mykos powder at the roots, then given a microbe tea to start them off.

Just picked up two sun system t5 2foot 4bulb. Threw em in the bottom of my veg cabinet and BAM. Got me a new veg space

Oops. Funky posting from a phone

Edit to add: flowering day 28

Anyone know if the girls are far enough along for day 28 or lookin a little behind?

As you can see above, flowers are coming along. The first shot there is of my frostiest ghost og. The buds and frost look better on it compared to the others. Def smelling divine.

Next is the chemdogg, wider bud shot. Lookin happy.

Then a wide of the garden. All 4 girls trying to produce for me.

This is sort of my experiment plant. Ive been "defoliating" since she was large enough to be in that bucket and since then i havent seen much improvement. Or even the ability to keep up with the others. I kinda hope shes still able to grow and keep up with the others. But if shes screwed then so be it. Perhaps i just didnt do it right, but i dont think ill be experimenting with this technique again anytime soon.

Please, any questions, advice as to how i could upgrade my setup or my technique would be greatly welcomed and appreciated. Even bad feedback. Sok with me, no worries.

Positive vibes, thanks for checkin my grow.

Ill leave you with an undershot of the canopy.
