How often malted barley should be used:

every 7 - 10 days especially during the flower cycle. The increase in the resin set more than justifies whatever monies or effort you put out.

But more importantly is the huge increase in the overall health of your plants. There's a lot of reasons but one has to consider the chitinase from the malted barley grain with the internal and added levels of salicylic acid from regular applications of aloe vera extract that gives you the increased SAR dynamic via chitinase-salicylic acid pathways and ethylene-salicylic acid pathways...

@Lazerus00 this is was a conversation on malted barley brewing with clackamas. Hope this helps. Im glad I found this again.

Someone:"Do I need to let this brew long or do I just mix it up and water?"

Coot:" A couple of questions to give you the best answer....
What amount of barley tea will you usually put together? What size air pump do you have available?"

Someone:" Currently I water all the plants using less than a gallon, but I would assume the water consumption will go way up once in the larger pots and the plants get bigger.
(first grow, still figuring it all out)

The pump is a 951 gph."

Coot:" I tend to error on the side of caution in most things. To prevent acetic acid from being created I would suggest that 4 hours of 'brew time' and no more.

Acetic acid is used as a herbicide under the generic name horticulture vinegar and it will destroy biomass quickly. You can't even begin to imagine what happens if you apply it to your soil. VOE

The problem with acetic acid is that there is very little smell early on so you have little or no warning - again better to error on the side of caution"

Another person:" How necessary is the brew? Would we see benefits with a quick mix or just a 15-20 min brew? I always try to plan for a 4 hr brew but something always comes up and I go 6 or 8 and I'm scared it's really gonna screw me one day."

Coot:" If other things need to be attended to then mix, soak for a few minutes and apply."
Another wise notill guy:" Too often I've seen people using and recomending a 24 to even 36hr 'brew' time - not sure where that one started! I don't get it. I've seen Coot post 4 hrs max more than enough to know better

Coot:" It started From somone'e feelings, opinions and most generally the need to blather about things too complicated for them to understand."

Someone:"I was under the 12-24 hr brew impression due to the instructions given on buildasoil website since he preaches your techniques I didn't question it. But I, thankfully, was corrected today as I just bought some unmilled 6 row and was about to grind some up and brew for a watering tomorrow."

Coot:"
Because of differing opinions on what is and what is not a viable air pump to prevent the formation of Acetic acid that range from toy pumps costing under $10.00 at PetSmart or a neighbors yard sale and not being interested in reviewing another's choice causing hurt feelings about their purchase I stress limiting the brew time to 4 hours which comes from the beer industry itself in their processes.

Even the air pump that I normally use which is rated at 81 LPM is a toy in my frame of reference but you can be assured that many consider that over-kill which it is not. Had I used this pump vs. the PetSmart pump I probably wouldn't have had any problems. As it turned out I threw the PetSmart toy away.

I lost my entire garden over this mistake and it's said that education is never cheap and I paid a pretty heavy price for veering away from my normal process. The plants were 66% into the flower cycle and within 48 hours every plant was dead. Not struggling but dead. Ovah. DOA. Finished."

@Lazerus00 heat isnt the only aspect, vpd/rh plays into it. Down here we can hit 100+ easy, but the high humidity helps with the rainforest effect, I think alot of people make base comparisons btwn out and in without taking in account mitigating factors such as humidity and wind. thats my .02

@Tnelz that really sucks brother.. I'm getting crazy packs soon, I'll list em up as soon as I get em all planned and in. If you need anything let me know brother... You hear anything from our other FL brethren?

On another note, everything looks so good in this thread. You guys are crushing it..
I did hear from him the other night. And thanks for the love man. Really appreciate it.

What is "the resin set?"

& are you talking about soil? or Hydro?

I'm running through a lot right now to see what works best for the wife. Will be thinning out as we go along and see if they help her or not.

Until now, I have never two strains that are the same. Highest I got was 8. 10 different plants, even if he only has 10 plants total, is a lot to control...& a lot of info to keep straight. I messed up my Sour Diesel because I noticed it was a light feeder. But come feeding time, I forgot, & gave it a good stunting :(

. This is gonna be out of left field, so i thought nelz thread about w/e would be a perfect place to ask this question. Im gonna buy 1 or 2 seed packs, my first ever. After considering b.o.g. then shopping around mota rebel... Just decided to ask.

I want to run a full sativa outdoors and let it get massive. And i want to run some bomb indoor indica or hybrid gear. Whos your favorite seed vendor? Where should i look for my first seed packs to go pheno hunting (always wanted to, now it feels like i cant wait!)

How's it going everyone?

No plant pics today, nothing exciting going on yet. But I thought I would share what my current full time occupation is, and hopefully will become my legit job some day. Latest piece, just finished about an hour ago. Calling it "Siren's Call", acrylic on stretched canvas 18"x24". First time attempting waves and being in a land locked state I don't really have access to go and look at the ocean in legit fashion so used my imagination the best I could remember.

Looking forward to posting some bud pics in probably another couple weeks. Ladies are getting their stretch on like crazy, having to super crop daily to try and get the canopy leveled out before they really set on flowers. Will be a fun run to the finish line!

One Love,
tobh

Thank you! Unfortunately I'm not a professional photographer and pictures never capture my pieces properly. I've been painting for a few years, mostly abstract but recently decided to start getting into more realistic type subjects. This is the start of the first series I will attempt to submit to galleries. Might even sell something lol people just never wanted to pay for my graffiti work so like any good businessman does, I'm trying to provide what people will buy!

Everyone's artistic to some degree. One isn't born into talent, they are born into a calling. Talent only comes with time, dedication and persistence. Much like growing weed, those first grows are normally atrocious and an absolute mockery of what the pros do. A few years down the line, that once-was newb is now competing with the top hitters so long they stay dedicated and persistent when the inevitable best-friend Murphy comes knocking.

@gardnguyahoy hazeman is great as well, used to work under motarebel. They have alot of same (old mota gear) offerings incase all the current Mota offerings are the new crosses. I've had success with numerous brands over the years.. Old sensi stock was fire, as is ograskal, sin city, picses etc..I've had good runs with greenhouse slh outdoors. Bodhi deserves a special mention. I'm gonna pop 2 packs of seedjunky grod og. Female seeds are good for good workhorse dank. I've definitely found some killer phenos for sure.. Tons of fire all round nowadays I've got a big hitlist lol. follow the path of a collecter at risk I've spent a fortune just to backlog.. Never tried loompa, always stoked on his hb..

What temps (on/off) are you running? Or were you pulling fan leaves off?

Or does that thing just naturally stretch that much?
