They make cmh adapters to fit in standard mogul sockets.

Fyi: some ballasts have issues firing overn6' cord lengths. Prism ballasts are not effected. I'm runningn7 with 15' socket cords.

I am just learning about LEC, feeling lazy today... and you seem like a nice informative person, so why are these better run vertically? I heard that from the start but I see a lot of horizontal setups.
315 seems plenty over one site, why would I need 630? Seems like overkill... but with lighting, maybe not?
I think 315s were originally designed to run vert and I'm told their more efficient that way but most fixtures besides cycloptics and some sunsystems run them horizontally.I don't think their designed to be air-cooled either but demons doing it with success so never say never, many ways to skin a cat.

Most bulbs actually have better output and longer bulb life when hung vertically. Cooling any bulb lowers its efficiency, monster gardens has some good informative videos on youtube about lighting. Listen to @DemonTrich about cmh lighting. He definitely helped convince me to try it out and i have no regrets going cmh!

Thanks. Good info. I will start my own search based on info from this thread.

I'm going to post my harvest comparisons in my 315 cmh thread to keep this one clean. Also (imo), the 315cmh does best in a scrog or sog style grows. The penetration is non-existent compared to hps. BUT, hands down, cmh reigns supreme in veg vs mh. Much faster growth, much better growth characteristics (stalks much bigger, huge fans, faster growth).

that's the one you want for a full cycle.the daylight bulb is veg or supplemental.people are switching bk to the 4200k bulb for last two weeks, frosting up more, apparently.

The shorter wavelength blue would have that effect. That component alone (specific to the CMH lamp spectrum) is what I think makes CMH lamps worthwhile, although it does seem to make folks think about watts vs. effective photon production. 1kw lamps are wasteful - even if the spectrum was right, the heat load alone is a clue. Until the LED guys get their shit together, CMH will be the way for most to go going forward, IMHO. Where I am, renewable power sources (expensive, unless you have your own) are required if you want to be legal.

Given the price for a kit, I like the idea of using the same hoods that I have already. They would be vertical, but that sounds like it works fine too, maybe just harder on the bulbs. I looked around a bit and saw ballasts from Phantom for CMH and bulbs sold separately. Is that all I need ? You mention an adapter for mogul? Can you please elaborate?
Thnaks!

I just ordered a couple of the kits for veg with the SS remote vert hoods,$317 with bulbs included, best deal around.Ill also be mixing some into my gavita flower room in the near future.I doubt I'll go 100% CMH as I already have perfectly good lights but a mix for sure.

Don't forget they also make CMH bulbs with mogul base. There's a lot of options.. Growers Choice just released there 630w DE CMH fixture. 1st to hit the market. I'm testing this light in my mixed spectrum room.

Can you post up the cmh bulbs NOT TO USER for safety reasons.
And I read a comment that you was venting it? I have a reg mogul sun system vented hood. Seems it would work fine in that wouldn't u think? How close can I run the light to canopy in vented setup?

And if I was gonna run this in flower right between my 2 600's , would I want to run mh, hps in them along side this?

And what ballast did you recommend pairing it with.
It's a damn shame that 1 ballast don't fire every bulb from 315 to 1150...

Any LFSWB will fire that bulb properly. I dont like Phantom. I have had both versions fail on me. I have had no issue with Ceramic Science. I have 3 of them, 1 Galaxy, 1 Wellthink, 1 Phantom v1.

I use 2 630 CMH. 1 is 3100-r the other is 4200 with 3 HPS in the main room.... I can change any HPS to CMH or CMH to HPS. I have tested a lot of plants under CMH lov the results. I noticed if I use all 3100 in flower I get some Foxtailing. Tested 4200 no foxtailing. I'm testing 3100-r will see what happens.

The one that blew and set your floor on fire. Want aware there more than 1 shitty cmh bulb out there.

630 W DE CMH bulbs SHOULD NOT be used in an open fixture in a house. The Arc tubes run at a much higher pressure then HPS. You must use them in an enclosed fixture or with the Shields IMO. When I bought my 1st 630 bulb from Growers house they list them as safe for open fixture use. That is a big risk for home use.. Talking to GC that is a decision the grower has to make. The risk of extreme failure is much higher on CMH and MH bulbs vs HPS.. I dont use 630w DE bulbs without shields now. I have been using 630w CMH bulbs for awhile. I had that 1 failure. If your using them at a Commercial facility where they are mounted higher the risk is low for fire if the room was design properly.

GC was kind enough to gift me a bunch of 315w bulbs and a 630w DE light to make it right. Now that I know how to use these properly I'm ok using them.
