Socalking & I face those winds once a month they should be good with your setup. I wanted to grow Acapulco gold this year soaked five fems & not a one of them popped.Seeds you make in your yard are usually easier to work with, quick to pop & they grow faster the second time round.

did you score them up first,,i take a small peice of sandpaper and rollit up,block both ends with tape ,shake the shit out of it,,then put in warm place with paper towel,,i did 15 yr old seeds same way and had luck

I should have sanded them a bit but no i didn't. I did them out in the cold mornings in the greenhouse some just don't make the grade. I ended up trying to pop 40 seeds over two runs and ended up with 21 females. I need six plants so usually i end up with enough.
Just came back in from outside my pollen chucking on the master kush didn't take but the cherry pie cross worked on everything i chucked it on. Not sure if it is worth it to hit it again with the same stuff.

Well I see oleskool is wanting to ramp up discussion in the organics section. Right on man. Old skool organic dude at your service.

So here is a teaser for you to review and comment on. I see your an advocate of biochar and so was I. Until............ Wait .... wait.......... lol until I read this paper from one of the more respected dudes I know in the Permaculture industry. Dont be too quick to pass judgement. Hear or read him out and lets discuss his opinions and hypothesis's

Heres a snippet to wet your whistle. Follow the link for the whole paper to save space here.

BEWARE THE BIOCHAR INITIATIVE

by Dr. Mae-Wan Ho

Turning bioenergy crops into buried charcoal to sequester carbon does not work, and could plunge the earth into an oxygen crisis towards mass extinction

The story goes that charcoal buried in the soil is stable for thousands if not hundreds of thousands of years and increases crop yields. The proposal to grow crops on hundreds of millions of hectares to be turned into buried ‘biochar’ is therefore widely seen as a “carbon negative” initiative that could save the climate and boost food production.
That story is fast unravelling. Biochar is not what it is hyped up to be, and implementing the biochar initiative could be dangerous, basically because saving the climate turns out to be not just about curbing the rise of CO2 in the atmosphere that can be achieved by burying carbon in the soil, it is also about keeping oxygen (O2) levels up. Keeping O2 levels up is what only green plants on land and phytoplankton at sea can do, by splitting water to regenerate O2 while fixing CO2 to feed the rest of the biosphere [1] (Living with Oxygen, SiS 43).

i will sure enough give it a read, thanks

PS I'm not saying one way or the other if hes right or wrong. But I want to open it up with some intelligent discussion and opinions on this topic.

Gonna do some brunch BBIAB
ya gonna be hard to convince me,,but give it a read for sure,,with the soil and rock i grow on i need every little tweak i can get ,lmao

okay so what i see is,they have done signifcant studies with char, and several fertilzers to include chemicals,,as usal nothing out preform chicken manure,,thats a no brainer,,but at same token ,there have been no studies of char mixed with rock dust,,there is the minerals needed to provide what there trying to acomplish or come up with,in my opinion,,so say it is true, all im seeing that it has to be reapplied more often than folks thought,,i watched a vid last night, that was made in japan,,these fields and villages have been abandoned for years after a tsumi hit the coast and destroyed everything in its past,,the 3 boys took on the job of trying to make something of this place,,they took standard garbage and done the same methods of the char, furnace or what ever you call it ,kiln i guess,,but anyway they took the char, from bio mass of wood and garbage combined with rock dust,,took 2 2 acre fields and planted rice,,1 field with 1 without,,now keep in mind farming had stopped because of salt from the ocean,,but they planted rice in both fields,,the char field was so much work cause the weeds were soaring to a point of almost out of control, they also took this same waste, wood and rock dust mix and feed to gold fish,,2 tanks,,the fish in tank with this mix doubled the size of the gold fish and they were in a frenzy of health to have more,,sounds like a steriod right, but not,,with those finding they decided to release into the char field a certain number of ther fish in the floode fields ,done same thing in untreated field,,at harvest of rice and fish,,char field was the best and sweetest taste and fish a had quadrupled not only in size but in spawn compared to the other field,,the untreated field didnt even spawn and from salt still in ground hardly had any fish,,so what im thinking,,if i was to overdose on a drug,,and i have,,they use charcoal then pump out your gut,,when my dogs have upset stomach, they hunt charcaol and i cant keep there ass out of it,,it got top be good for something,,like i said gonna be hard to convince me of it harming the ozone when my eyes and stomach tell me difrent,,there was also no mention of the char being charged with these nutrient the used,,that for a fact has to be done ,or it will suck all the nutrients you have in your soil out, like a sponge,,this might also be reason why they didnt produce as well,,just saying ,there is a lot missing from there studies,,and again no mention of what water table they used,,was it flooded fields from mother natures rampage which in turn send all the chemicals down hill to these farms are forest they claim,,was it controled envorement with treated water, and so on,,this might not seem but jibber jabber,,but as you also know in the weed we grow make a huge difrence

I hear all you are saying and to some degree I agree with everything you said. My apprehension with the whole BC craze coming on makes me uneasy as I see that this will just give multinationals and other corporate entities a reason now to justify rampant deforestation all in the name of saving the carbon cycle and ease climate warming and less fortunate nations will see this as a money maker and go too far.

Seems in the early stages as a species we fukk shit up to where it becomes a crisis but someone always comes up with the quick fix/magic bullet and no one takes the time to see if the cure is worse than the ailment we are trying to cure. Just sayn.

Reminds me of folks that are so entranced/trusting with their doctors or hospitals that they allow themselves to be over medicated and end up having the Dr. prescribing shit to counteract the side effects of the other 5 drugs their on.

very much true my man,and you nailed it on the head, profits like anything else,,what im digging most is the use of rice hulls and garbage to do the same thing,,that old boy there in japan has mastered the shit,,no doubt, the vid really impressed me,,there it was a tanker that had run aground and they are standing in the middle of a rice patty, also in picture was about 75 car tangled in each other,,the factory that i spoke of was like a dump that hadnt been even bull dozed, they just abandoned the whole village and city from the destrution and this guy set up shop right in the trash heap and was putting out product from it,,these damn gold fish were huge,,so active they were trying to jump out of aquarium,,the others look like pet shop gold fish,,when they harvested the rice and the fish, all that were living in the temporay housing for miles came out to harvest and fiest,,now that what im talking about, helping the community,,with that be said,im also wondering how the char absorbs the salt and what the overall effect it will have say 10 yrs down the road,,it is a sponge but like you and researchers say it got to go somwere,,water table is my thought,,but for now it sure gets the job done to feed hungry mouths
