still pondering my A/C dilemma.. Not sure if i should buy a new one and up my 2x hoods to 1k bulbs or if i should just keep waiting for another 6 months + probably to get some LEDs.. I feel like my A/C has just been soo inefficient but i guess its hard to tell.. I want to use the ice box thing with my chiller instead of an A/C but i need dehumidifying capabilities because deep in flower i cant control the humidity enough..

Lol.. decisions decisions.. another side ball that gets thrown in is if i go with LED's ill probably end up needing a much bigger dehumidifier to keep up since the A/C wont even really be needed..

My electric bill is like 275 with the A/C + dehu + fans + chiller & 600watts of light.. seems way too high, this is what started my pondering..

Id bet you could just do it for an hour per day at the middle of the day. Gromau5 did a test with UV bulbs and didnt seem to like his results and i think he was only doing an hour a day or something.. If you want i can try and find the video.. I remember when i tried it the pistil hairs on the flowers closest to the UV bulbs turned pink lol..

I wouldn't worry about UV at this time.. You just need to get your basic lighting setup going since you only have 700 to work with IMO.. what size duct holes do those xxxl hoods have? probably worth it as those hoods usually run about 150$ a piece.. especially if your getting a few high end 1k watt bulbs as a bonus...

Might be difficult keeping the room temps down with no A/C, will probably have to mess with different orientations of fans pulling/pushing air in/out of the room.. Also will have to duct the lights directly outside or something if possible..

Truth be told I was alredy headed in that direction but with a different part of the UV spectrum; picked up 4 BLB black light CFLs last week...though perhaps that might put me too high in the UV spectrum (only in the upper 300s and very low 400s), unclear. It's my understanding that give a low dose, in that range they can run the whole light cycle, it's UVB you have to look out for(?) I do know UVB is reportely more critical as far as getting just-enough-but-not-too-much. Part of the reason I was planning to supplementing the upper 300s range it was to increase resin and terpenes (I primarily use extracts such as oils, for both edibles and topical) and seldom actually smoke it as I seem more prone by a long shot to paranoia when smoking it... for somewhat obvious reasons I suppose.

Anyway, being in the NW the other reason I was planning on supplementing the upper 300s as far as UV is to assist with keeping any mold at bay, if even just a little.

Buy the hoods!!!! Make sure that the rubber on the glass is there and that they seal. Make sure they aint got the dumb hydrofarm plug on it..
And I show you whay ballast to put with them. They are about 100 a piece! They have a remote and there own buillt in timers! And they are arguably the best ballast on the market and I have 2 of them myself. They run pretty cool and they pretty slick looking too....

Thanks Events, that would be great on the ballasts. I left a message for the guy and will go pick them up later tonight if he gets back to me. Really pretty much everything is ready to do the final initial room config so there's no reason to delay.

Which ballasts are they? As soon as I hear back that he still has all 3 (did 3 days ago), I'll get them coming so I can get those lights up.

Another question: if I have those 6 plants around 21", is it safe to assume that if I go get 9 more (my plant count was upped by the doc this past week), that I should set those up under one of the 3 in the 5x5' tent and veg them there, then use the other two to finish veg on the 6 then bloom them? Rather than try to hold these 6 back and get the other 9 caught up I mean...

My personal opinion, you will get more resin from good genetics/pheno hunting versus supplemental UV. UV is something you should play around with once your room is 100% dialed in.

Looks like a bulk of my canopy is getting 800-1200 PAR and the outter stuff is getting 500-700

so your lights are running approx 50% effecient
meaning you are rocking about 200par watts
how many watts are actual par to the canopy

Tbh I'm not 100% sure how many watts my fans are drawing. It's 6 computer-type fans. They look like 140mm fans. So, I'd assume about 2w a piece for those.

how high do you go with your 50w cobs on your tree grows??
you know, that maximum before losing too much penetration and needing side lighting..... say 4 trees with mylar walls.

Just building my room and sort of battling how high i want to go with the ceiling. its sloping up so the higher i go the bigger the room gets. and the more obvious it is in the room next door.... stealth is very important....kids family....

i really dont want to be wishing i made it higher down the road. that already happened with my old hps room. tend to get bored with lil bushes and wanna go a bit bigger sometimes.:smoking:

Most of my cobs are hung up at 6'4 so i can get around with my boots on and not bump the lights lol.plants top out around 5 ft to 5'6" once in a while i gotta bend a top away from the lights and tie it off to a stake.room has plenty of vert space being 9ft angled to 10 in the center.running lots of different wattages on my cobs 35 and 50w can be 4 to 6 inches away,62 and 75w cobs should be 10 to 12 inches away when possible. I keep the 120w quantum boards a good 12 inches up off the plants,those bitchs are strong as hell.
Temps humidity and plant health play a big role in how close you can run a specific light also.i ran 600w hps in cooltubes for years right above the canopy sometimes actually touching the colas as they moved past (using light movers) but i keep my temps in check at all times and never flower sick plants.
