I have cabbage moths fluttering around and on my girls but they don't seem to bother with them.

I think what made all the difference this time was the dusting of the actual plants with DE. Unlike other means of control DE is safe for consumption (just try not to breath in a lot of the dust), so it could work on your leafy veggies. Also putting a solo cup full of DE covered with cheese cloth in the fridge will slow wilting by absorbing ethylene gas from any fruit that produce it in the fridge with them. It will extend the life of the fruit themselves too. It's what they impregnate those green bags with (I've heard).
I'll take your advice. Where did you get that duster you're using? Maybe you mentioned it already and I missed it.

A look at the Orange Creamsicle...
20180620 153342

Last year's Orange Creamsicle grew only 3-5 finger fronds all the way to the base of the buds. Even the water leaves on the colas only only grew 7 finger fronds.

This year it's beanling has up to 12 fingers on it's upper fronds. Some of the extra fingers are growing out of the top of those fronds.

I don't know if this was from X pollination, the grow lights, or if it's just a mutant mongoloid.

What it still has in common with the mother is a massive stalk. At the base it's already well over an inch across and the bottom branches are almost an inch thick. (Can't really see it in the pic due to lens distortion)

I know the mother was bread for very large yields so my guess is this stout structure isn't an accident.

Those plants are the result of an amazing grower, keep up the awesome work!

Thank you.

It's because of the mentoring from my peers on this forum that my grows are successful, that and a near perfect climate for monster plants and yields. Last year some of my girls reached 9' but those are dwarves compared to the 14'+ plants of my neighbors. I'm hoping for 10'-12' this year. That would be friggin sick.

Just realised I used a pic of last year's Creamsicle after the first harvest. Thought it looked a little stick-y. Still, that is a good representation of the leaf structure on the whole plant. I think the mites might have done irreparable damage to them and that's why their buds came out fluffy with tiny bracts. That infestation was a horror show. Luckily the Borg had little interest in the Royal Nepal. Those were awesome plants.

Most recent Banana Ice Cream transplant...

My girl's got the perfect build for a monster producer. She's stacking squares within squares, each level a quarter turn from the one below. No branch is in competition with the one above or below because the growth rate is just right to keep all branches equidistant across and from each tier. I will remember this pruning technique. Take the big fans as soon as they sex under the grow lights and get a bushier transplant outside.

The other two have a similar structure though not as pronounced.

Banana Crack

Orange Creamsicle

I was going to lollipop them but I like this even better. I made sure the girls were farther apart this year so they wouldn't crowd each other out. Being bushy is an advantage in this garden with all the sun they're getting. Yay, took a risk and it paid off in a very peculiar and unexpected way. (What I'm trying to say to those who don't know me is... Though I love gardening and I think I do have a knack for it, this outcome was unplanned and unexpected. I was just lucky, or blessed, depending on how you look at it. Now next year when I use this same pruning technique, then it will be skill. hehe)

The last stretch of very sunny dirt road walking back to my trailer from the garden. Was not looking forward to it. I don't do well in direct sun and I don't hobble fast enough to get through it without turning into a puddle. My last island of shade before crossing the minnie Mojave, lol.

Can't wait for the nature path to be ready. Way more shade and half the distance...

Man it is hot times for sure. :drunk: Nice to see the plants thriving regardless.

Thank you. The shade screen is doing it's job keeping the girls from overheating.

My phone was so hot it refused to take pics. Had to wait till evening.

Starting to see a lot of blight looking spots on leaves. Flipped over the fans and found concentrated groups of aphids. This is the first time I've seen serious ant cow damage. Usually they're at the growth tips so it's very odd to me to find them under lower established fans. I'll blast the girls with DE tomorrow. That should slow em down. There are a lot of pests on my girls this year doing a lot of damage where as last year the damage from these same pests was negligable. They are concentrated on the two established Banana Ice Cream and a few on the Banana Crack. Not appearing to bother any of the others yet. My guess is that the Banana Ice Cream is tasty to aphids like the Creamsicle was delicious to the spider mites last year.

I cannot afford Azamax yet so I hope the DE does the trick. I'll check to see if there is any Azamax left over in the Hudson sprayer or last year's bottle. The girls aren't very big yet so a small dose should be adequate.

Damn so hot your phone overheated. I’ve only had that happen a few times. Interesting how the sap suckers like the Banana Icecream. Must be sweeter in some way. I have not tried azamax as it’s pretty pricey but good old neem oil and a touch of dawn soap as a surfactant always works really well for me. Very affordable option if you can’t get azamax right now.

try living here. Gets so hot here even the satellite waves get heated even before they hit the phone. Was friggn 111 the other day. If we don't get monsoon soon we will see 118's. The monsoon moisture helps keep sumer temps to a mild 105 average :fire::fire::fire::fire:
