I think he said he's using 6" net pots. My current system uses 10" net pots designed to fit on 5 gallon pails but the useable resevoir capacity is only 3 gallons. If I switched to the square 4 gallon buckets and 6" net pots would I have more or less resevoir capacity than I do now?

13 buckets holds about 48 gallons when I'm filled to beneath the net pots.

maybe switch to an enlongated tote for your res(wider not taller)

I dont see the need for more water unless you are vegging longer.I can use a 1/10 HP chiller on the 12 bucket system and im growing some pretty big plants.Less water means more efficient and less nutrients for changeouts.Im all about Cost vs return and the 4 gallon are perfect.
If i was gonna go bigger i would use the 8 gallon EZ store buckets and veg for 45 days.Put them on 48 inch centers.

Heisendbubble, do you think it’s possible to do this setup using 5gal round buckets? I have a ton of them and net pots that can hold a 6in rockwool cube. Concerned about the bulkheads leaking if it’s on a curved area. Will order the 4 gal buckets and new net pots to mimmick your same set up no problem, just figured I’d see what you thought first about using what I already have. Your setup is killer, best diy rdwc I’ve come across so far!

@heisenbubble : As for the bulkheads hole, I am able to screw them, can't push them though, is that too tight or I need to open the hole a little bit? I'm afraid of a leak if I need to screw the bulkhead.

You can try to.you may have to use a thicker rubber washer on the outside and it will be something you may have to source your self.
Uniseals may be a better option for you and I personally dont reccomend them.nothing worse than half way through a grow and have water leaking.
It will throw all the ppm numbers out of wack and will be impossible to feed your plants correctly.
It's best to just buy the buckets man.they are really not that much.

not really, if an issue just pull net pot and swap it with another

This is how I’ve always done it with single buckets and got basketball size roots and 6ft plants still, just do it this way because of space mainly. Just wondering if you think I’m screwing myself doing it that way.

If that works for you than do it that way but you still need to get the roots through the net pots.
I use totes with 6 inch circles and start my plants in them.faster than cubes.it really accelerates the procrss.

Most definitely, the roots always blast through like crazy in the first few weeks of flowering so that’s never been an issue. I’ll definitely be making totes like your stuff in the future and will do a side by side too see the difference in veg time.

One last question for now, how are your scrog stands set up? Looks really simple like some metal tubing in a block of wood but it has to be a little more complex than that haha

The conduit is non threaded.just 10 foot metal poles
