Gonna upgrade my lights soon, so I'm looking for any input. What do you guys think, cobs or quantum boards?

Is budget an issue? If not, I would go with the Gavita 1650e LED. It is intended to cover a 5'x5' area, so it would kill it in a 4'x4' area. For how much light it puts out it runs very cool. I like it a bit more than the Fluence Spydr, but that is a great light too. Ultimately it seems, at least to me, that for commercial growers and growers in areas 5'x5' or greater the bar lights are becoming the most effective option.

I made my own light using four HLG 132 panels on a 240 watt driver. It works great for my 2'x4'. While the HLG 600 would kill it, I think its best to run more panels that handle less load and spread them. The HLG 600 is still providing light from a mainly centralized point, which will leave a fair amount of light to be desired along the edges of the tent. A custom built unit will allow you to fill your space with light more efficiently. But for shear ease, the HLG 600 is going to be a great option for a 4'x4' canopy.

But I also think you could run a CMH and get great results too. I wish I had more space because I would absolutely set up a CMH and grow under that.

I did consider the gavita, but out costs at least twice as much, but it's it really twice as good? If it would double my yield over QBs I would consider it, but I don't think it worth it. I'm also not sure how close it can get to the tops. I like your idea of building a custom unit, and I might consider doing that. Thanks for your input bro

You can't go wrong with Quantum Boards, I've been using them well over a year now.

4x 250w kits on XL Heastinks
4x 250w xl Copy

I hit numbers, the bud is on point and it cost's me less in electricity to do this. I like the ability to dim the QB's. I'm gonna be trying LED Samsung strips next in my 1212 tent, basically a stretched out Quantum Board.

What size room you using those in?

I have not run the Gavita 1650e myself nor have I seen a full run with it; so I cannot in any fashion determine if you will get double the yield. But I can compare The Fluence Spyder to an HLG with veggies, and I would absolutely go with the Fluence. From the demos I have seen and done of the Gavita it is definitely a brighter more powerful light than the HLG 550 (yes I know you are considering the HLG 600). So I would assume it is going to provide an increase in yield.

With that said I am loving my board unit which I custom built, and @Numbar4 always puts on a good show so I would definitely trust his advice. There is definitely a flexibility with boards I don't think the bar units offer in tents, and yes the price tag is less. Being able to make custom units with the boards is very nice and something the bar units really cannot offer. Plus I found building my own unit both fun and rewarding.

Nice array. Are those the 3k spectrum?

I am stoked to see what you can do with those Samsungs. I think there are a few other people on here who have used them and had really nice results.

Those are beautiful by the way

Thanks, those are from my last round that just finished up about three to four weeks ago. I just harvested some Cali-O here about a week ago and it turned out very nice as well. Not as many pics of it. I’ve got another round going now so I’ll post pics soon.

Hell Ya, I'll second that!

Thanks bro!

Thanks for the words, yes those are in 3000k.

I'm looking forward to trying the Samsung strips out. I'll post a pic when the unit arrives if OK with @SoLowDolo Its a 220w unit going where I've previously used a 135w Quantum Board.
