After several 70F days at the end of Jan, I thought, hey maybe I'll be able to plant early this year. Nooope, not quite.

It's 4am and 50F. Hard to believe in 3 days it'll be 24F L - 40F H and 2-15" of snow. We don't get snow every year but sometimes we get blasted. I'm kinda bummed. I wanted to have my solar set up before any heavy winter storms hit since we usually have long power outages from them. Often weeks at a time.

I just got the last parts I need to set up my system yesterday. Need to pick up some pallets to make a temporary stand for the panels. Hope I can get this set up today but I think the rain is going to stop me. (I don't want to play with panels in the rain when each can generate 5amps and the array together in parallel will generate 17.2v at about 25a. That sh*t can definitely kill ya.)

looks good bro....give her a good cure for a while and see if it gets better....usually does dig?

Yeah, they're a little green still. It's not like the BIC#4 that was sweet from the cut. This and another bean I grew of the BIC strain had some piney fuel terps. Not a real fan. But both were highly resinous and dopey. That, I did like. Makes fire rosin and the terps are more suited to it.

You have all kinds of nifty toys don't you. lol

That's awesome SmithsJunk.

Thanks

I... l like weeed. Always have. The cleaner the better, and rosin is so much cleaner than BHO. As soon as I found out I could make concentrates in a press I set out to get me one. Hehehe. Found this one for less than $400 and I don't regret a penny of it, even when I had to replace the jack ($20). Everything comperable was running $800+ at the time. Dude who sold em used to be on eBay but I haven't seen him in a while. If you ever see one of these on eBay (red jack, no branding, around $400), buy it. If he ever does come back buy the double for $700. I wish I would have when I had the chance.

What’s the double mean? Has two jacks?

I was checking to see if my favorite press builder returned to eBay, as I do from time to time. No luck, but I did find this trippy press. It's an interesting idea. I don't know how practical it is or if there's any advantage to gravity dripping rosin extractions, but it's still cool and pretty reasonably priced. Only $499(US) + free shipping but needs at least a 10k lb hydraulic hand pump for around $100 used, or $200 new. Still, not a bad price since it comes with the 10ton ram cylinder.

I like the bamboo spacers to help keep the heat restricted to the plates but I have to wonder how much pressure they absorb. At 10tons I don't know if it would make much of a difference. It's only 500w compared to my 600w 4ton but I don't run my elements/plates full blast anyway. I would throw down $600+ hydraulic fluid for this 3x5 press.

Here's the eBay link if you're interested.

Since I bought mine the selection of presses has multiplied dramatically at near the same price point. This is a very asthetically pleasing and well thought out little device and appears comparable in build quality to many far less capable name brand units that cost 2-3x as much.

Thinking about buying longer screw stock and adding bamboo blocks to my unit. Need to do it anyway since my replacement jack is 1" taller than the original. If I add bamboo, I'll stop getting burned when I forget and accidentally touch the top of the unit to secure it while pumping the jack. I can add a handle to the the screw stock as well. The whole top, even the upper screw stock, gets hot from contact with the plates.

Hugh, I thought I posted a pic of mine recently. Guess not.

As can be seen (maybe) the gap has been narrowed compared to her big sister up there. Still usable though.

This isn't the most snow I've seen accumulated here but this the most persistent set of snow storms I've ever experienced at this elevation. I'm only at 2350ft. At this low level we'll get a weekend of snow from time to time but this has been a couple weeks so far of repeated dustings. Grass Valley is only a few hundred feet higher and I'm betting they have a couple feet by now. Can't find out, my truck is rear wheel drive and my front wheel drive van is down right now. Cant get into town till it stops. Hills are too steep in town without good traction.
