Eh walleyes are ok.
They're for the guides with 60k boats and up. Usually filled with people who don't normally fish but are wanting to try one for size.
All the locals know that bluegills and crappies are the prize. I prefer gills and northerns over walleyes for sure.
Lot firmer fish, eyes tend to be too mushy.
Learn how to get them Y bones out of them Gators and you'll never want another walleye.
I'm surrounded by trophy walleye lakes, I won't go out of my way.
We don't eat bass, my dad does but he grew up eating bullheads and catfish.
Catfish have been stocked up here in the river systems, now coming out of these waters I'd probably eat a catfish.
Morel Mushrooms, back in the late 60's early 70's we used to fill beer bottle crate boxes the one year we filled a trunk of a car with them and strung and dried the majority of them.
There were times we ate them for supper and nothing else.
People in Oklahoma are finding them right now.
Now I have friends who ship me enough for a couple meals.
Shoot. My boat is no more than 1200 smacker. Using those zebco33's cheapie's and I pull just as many fish as those guys with all their fancy gear. Crappie are really good as well, but gill just aren't big enough here for me to justify cleaning then. Western kansas has some absolute slabs when it comes to crappie, walleye as well.

hell these guys eat Carp round here man...the argument is always...." Its How U Cook It " .... lol
carp and gar here, carp no way,gar yes there is a technic to it,first any blood on meat just wasted the fish, you have to split it at the back bone and ride down the back bone to about 3in from end of tail, both sides, then you have to fillet the meat as you would retrieving the back strap from a deer or hog, when you get done there is a huge loin of white meat, sound easy right,NOT,them hide are sharp as knifes and one scale can send you for stitches,i do mine with a machette, nail his head to a board and as you fillet beside the skin use a ratchet strap to hold it back from folding, when done you have a fish with no backstrap, believe it or not the fish is still alive after this, they bad mama jammas,,
i was putting out a 25 hook line years ago,i run out my main line weight it down, come back other way put hooks on,back other way and put bait on,got half way down line with bait and something ripped the main line from my hand,it was flooding water figured and floating log got me,so went back to end to get line started running down the line and got 4 hooks from it and the water came alive, let this be known folks running lines and if that line is a swaying better get real excited cause big daddy on that line, they will take that line and move the bitch back and forth 3 ft any way, back to it,got to the fish after a lot of working line, never lift line or hooks above water either, got to that hook, and aint shitting, alligator gar,his bill was about 3ft long and about 10 inch across, big bastard, run about 5ft long his body girth was about 2 1/2 ft around,so im in a hurricane running lines and what to do,my stoned dumb ass said i got something for you,HAAAAAA pulkled out my gaft one you just put the rope around your wrist,DONT DO THIS IM TALKING BOUT i stuck that big bastard in the eye and all hell broke loose,i have no clue how i stayed in the boat, but big boy lived another day swimming the depths of the river with his gaft in the eye about oh at least 2lbs of my flesh from hand, not to mention damn near dislocated my shoulder,a serious lesson learned and worst off lost my buzz dammit

You get over this way and drag in 20 dinner plate size Twister's, (bluegills) you wouldn't want nothing else.
Crappies are a bit bland to me, they work in a pinch thou if the Twister's ain't biting.

Flathead catfish are highly preferred than channels, unfortunately they're stocking channels which might be pretty good in these swift waters otherwise they're to oily and soft for me.
Pretty tough to beat Flathead nuggets, also.
