Update of the plants at week six.
you could add a bit of epsom salt to your feeds once or twice a week to help with the red stems.doesnt take much, just 1/8-1/4 teaspoon per gallon along with your normal feeds. looks good though

Is it a mag deficiency causing the red? Thank you for the compliment piehole, much appreciated.

I was hoping you folks could point me in the right direction.

I have a 4x4x8 tent, and have been running 1k hps in a cool tube.

I'm building just for the flower room, so choosing 2700k.
Would 12 cxb3590's run at 1050ma be overkill? How much of a loss in performance would I see dropping to 10 in the same area?

If I went with the Vero29 series, which ones? I noticed they come in 70 CRI, any advantage over 80 for pure flower?

Thanks for filling this thread with great info!

To replace 1K hps 600-700w should do very well. It may provide a little boost too on the higher end. But are these 72v or 36v diodes. Depending on the answer, 10 will do the job with 1050ma.

Never used veros.

Cri is for human eyes and gives nothing about calculating how well a light source will perform when growing plants. You’ll need to look at the spectrum.

That being said 2700K is pretty red and usually with warm colours spectrum shifts to reds. Thus cri goes lower. Thats my understanding of the subject. So 70cri is probably ok but find a datasheet and control for yourself.

One last question: can anyone tell me a qualitative or quantifiable difference in yield, with the same watts consumed per array, between Cree, Vero or Luminus?

When there is a $12/chip gap between Luminus and Cree, that adds up over time.

My 2cents....
Just finishing first grow for '19. 800 watts Cree CXB3590 COBs, 3000k. BOG Blue Kush 16 plants, 2gal pots, coco. JR Peters Jacks 321 hydro formula from cutting to harvest. As always beautiful, frosty, tight buds.
IMO, if one has the $$, go w/Cree.
Which ever one chooses LED COBs, QBs are the way to go. It's all goood!!!
Cheers.
Stay safe!!!
Success w/ya grow!!!

Hey @sixstring 2 Quick question I'm planning on ordering a set of both red and blues to throw between 2 sets of QB324 boards.

So it would be 4X QB324 @640watts
with 2 QB11 Red and 2 QB 11 Blue between them

What spread would you recommend 90 Degrees or 130 Degrees. This is for a 4x4 grow space, maybe stretched to 5x5 but I doubt it.

Also what Cob series do you currently recommend eg. CXA25xx or CXA3050 series

I might throw a few COBs in the mix as well just to really get that oomfph.

Also building a smaller light for Veg not sure what path I'm gonna go.

What did you end up doing for the QB 11's? Thinking about grabbing some of these and the QB 3's. The QB 11's are on sale for $25 from $49 which I think is a good deal. What are you using to power these suckers? I'm planning on having 2 sets of 2 QB 11's

I have really enjoyed reading this thread, lot's of ideas! Thank you to all who have contributed, I am sad to see that the postings on this thread have slowed way down. This is my third grow, indoors, and every time, like anybody with this as a hobby, I am constantly upgrading. It is because of threads like this one that led me to HLG and their Quantum Boards. I have four of the QB288 V2 triple combos. Two of the QB96 Elite V2 Engine's on a light mover. Those QB96's are f-ing bright. In second week of flower, stretch is starting to pick up. Things look good so far.

How you liking the QB 96? How much heat do they put off, by far the most reds in a puck i've seen but i'm also balling on a budget and was thinking about grabbing the saber 100

Bought 2 qb288 v2 boards. Not sure which driver I should use to power them. Any suggestions?

Ok so i figured i would start a new journal here just for my led stuff since it has taken over about half my grow now lol.
I been using the info gained from supraspl,growmau5,tags420 (greengenes707) and northerngrowlights.com to build a bunch of diy cob light bars.also shout out to bobbyg who has answered alot of my silly questions as of late :)
These cree led are turning out some fanfuckintastic plants and i plan to move towards a grow room with 80% cob lights and 20% gavita fixtures with both mh and hps lamps to cover all the spectrum.
Anyhow heres a few pics to kick it off and now that winter is here i should have more time to document whats goin on.

What K are you using in your COBs? I've heard that 3500k will do it all but was wondering if a mix of dimmable 3500 and 3000 wouldn't be better. veg with the 3500s all the way up and then switch over to the 3000s up and the 3500 turned down.

Here's a few pics of recent grow...600watt rig (3'X3'), 3 200watt bars (4 Cree COBs CXB3590, 3500K oer bar), on a light mover coverings 4'x7' area. This setup works for both veg and flower...for me, that is. Always frosty, dense buds. When you find something that works, ya stick w/it til something better comes along...if it comes along, at all. I'm looking to adding a far red lights to my rig. I hear it's suppose to improve ones plants. We'll just have to see... Anyway, LED COBs, QBs, Pucks, Strips...are the way to go. Yeah, ya gotta spend $$...up front, but, seriously pays for itself. Success w/ya grows. Cheers.

Hy people, could anybody tell me how many lumens I will have with 2x cxb3590 3500k DB (newst bin) on 5A (2x2500mA for each diod). There is propably some calculator but I can't find it. I do the math with data sheet on cree web, there is graph for RELATIVE LUMINOUS FLUX VS. CURRENT (%vs mA)(propably the oldest bin) i check it for 25st. It's inacurate but it's goes like this:

2xcxb3590 (2x2500mA (110%x11000lmx2)) - 24200 lm
3xcxb3590 (3x1300mA (80%x11000lmx3)) - 26400 lm

and I do the same with my old cxb 2530 (don't remember bin), for similar cost I will buy i think 10 diods like this

10x cxb2530 (10x500mA) - 25000 lm (somwhere on cree web I find it's 3000lm on 500mA so even 30000 lm!).

So for the same amount of money I will have better results with old cxb2530 then newest 3590???

So is it a sens to invest in high end 3590 when it's few times more expensive then 2530???

edit! Ok acording to this one http://pct.cree.com/dt/index.html it goes:

2xcxb3590 (2x2500mA) - 28300lm
3xcxb3590 (3x1300mA) - 30000lm

10x cxb2530 (10x500mA) - 30000lm

It means I get exacly the same result with 3cxb3590 and 10xcxb2530!

Still I don't know nothing about bin the used to calculate this...

Anyway I can have 10x cxb2530 (bin U2 4063lm/25st) for the same money of 2xcxb3590 (bin DB 14320lm/25st) so it's 30000lm with 2530 vs 28300 with 3590 - more diods and I can spread the light on bigest area and put it lower. And I will have 3000k not 3500k

So I don't know is it a sens of investing in newest diods? Ofcourse I can invest 3x more and run 3590 lower and after few years I will save money on electrycity, but... I don't want to invest tones of money now and don't need it for few years running all the time ;)

What U will chose?

Hey Paldo!
I am interested in the subject myself but have no answers for you. Have you tried to reach out to customer service on that site ?

They might recommend you to buy the most expensive stuff but maybe they can provide some insight

I have check it and... Everything depends from the bin and how hard U run it. True is that from 2530 runed soft U can have better result then from 3590 runed hard. Depend what price U can get from what bin etc.

For example (on 5A):
10x cxb2530 bin U2 (not best, but avalible) 3000k it's 27200 lumens
2x cxb 3590 bin DB (best bin) 3500k it's 28800

Price the same, but with lower bin 3590 (they don't have DB for 3000k yet) U can have even worst result for ex.

2x cxb 3590 bin CB 24000lm
but if U ad one more it's about 27000lm (same as 10cxb2530 but price bigger)

3x cxb 3590 bin DB 3500k it's 31500 lumens (so this is a difrenece, but still U can have it only in 3500k)

The moral is - if U want spend a lot of cash (but have smaller bills) U can buy the newest bin 3590 3500k and run it soft (1600mA or less), if not It dosen't matter which U chose, depend from bin and price U can get and how many A U will put on one

Saying that I will have 2x cxb 3590 DB 3500k (2x2500mA) and 10x cxb 2530 3000k and 3500k mix (10x900mA) (i had some 2530 alredy, only add some to run it softer). If I will not have very good price for 3590 DB propably I will buy 2530 U2 3000k (but I can't find it in my country, must buy from US, also they are without holders (!) so at the end of a day 10xcxb2530 cost more then 2xcxb 3590 DB and I don't need to wait, that's why I buy 3590 (and few Citizen clu48 which I'm going to ad to 2530)

Edit: it's for about 3m2... now my plants are in veg stage on 7x2530 (1280mA each so a little bit to hard 134 l/W only)
