Picked up a little hand held microscope. Still need to figure out how to get clear pics but here are a few shots of the trichs.

A few more. Everything looks more clear in these follow up pics. Thinking still 2 weeks away.

I've upped the UV bar to 6.5 hours from 5.5. Should probably do the full 12 cycle but I am manually feeding and I don't open the tent when the UV bar is on.

It seems every couple of days I find something that I believe may be done differently so I just haven't posted.

I mix my solution in 2 gallon batches which when using the formula on this site requires a dilution of another 2 liters or close to achieve the PPM of ~650. I consistently mix to a PH of ~6.0. Base is RO water. After reading your post I raised the PPM to 1000 and kept the PH at 6.0. I have been doing an odd pattern of fertigation that is changing today. But here is what I have been doing.

  • I fertigate with this 1000 PPM mix at 2 liters once per day
  • I fertigate at 12 hours into the period with 2 liters of RO water and 5ml of CalMag (but only every other day)
  • The period following the extra CalMag dose I drain the pan, wash it with soap and clean out everything. Do the normal fertigation of 1000 PPM mix at 2 liters. Measure runoff, PPM and PH.
After doing this for 2 weeks I have a consistent runoff. The leaves still are yellowed but the brown spotting has stopped. I trimmed the plant of any badly damaged leaves so that I could feel confident any new spotting would be quickly noticed. Runoff is typically 50-80% in a 7 gallon pot. I have felt this was high compared to what others report. For this reason I have not been fertigating twice daily. However, I no longer believe this is the correct response.

My PPM in the runoff has risen to ~460 and PH of the runoff is 5.7-5.85. This is with the 1k PPM primary solution I described earlier. My lower leaves seemed to have regained some dark green but I did not think this was possible. I assumed this was an irreversible event?

Starting this period I have moved to a 1125 PPM solution and a PH of 5.96 I am using the recipe from the General Hydroponics site but filling in with the ingredients unique to this site. I modified to 7ml of CalMag per gallon for this new period. I found it odd that without any adjustment my PH was 5.96. Checked it 3 times in fact. Total yield was 2 gallons with no dilution neccessary.

I am moving to a new schedule of bi-daily watering with 2 liters of solution. I have eliminated the CalMag only fertigation. Just twice a day every day with the 1125 PPM. Because my runoff PPM is still so low at around 460 I feel that I am not wasting the nutrients nor am I in danger of any type of salt buildup.

Quick question why aren’t you worried about salt buildup? Are you using a weekly flush like recommended?

That post you quoted was quite a while back in the grow. Since then I have went to a PPM of 680-740 and thats been consistent for quite a while. I do a flush about every 4 weeks and the last one was a couple of weeks ago. I probably will not do it again before final flush and harvest which I expect to be 2-3 weeks. Forgot to add that my fertigation events are 6 liters twice a day with 20-30% runoff.

I got to a point where I felt like I could see when salt buildup was becoming a problem and flushing then. I don't know that I would do it this way in the next run. This was a weird one because it was my first every try at growing in coco or hydroponics of any kind. The flu problem caused a delay in shipping everything and I had to extend the veg cycle to ridiculous lengths. That's how I ended up with the Hedge of Doom growing method lol. That plant has been in that 7 gallon fabric pot for a very long time. I can't even hardly push stakes in at this point. I am sure that has skewed things too.

Ya I’m in coco for first time and luckily have had decent luck. I flush weekly though. I’m much more familiar growing in hydroponic buckets. I had to run a portable a/c in my tent for about 2 weeeks in the hottest part of the summer. Had some heat stress issues. I’m about 3 weeks away. Strain is Double White

Cooling was a little tricky for me too but I have been able to keep it under 90F with just the fans running and that is at the ceiling. Leaf temps are always ~85F or so. My problem was humidity at night. I could cool it down to the point the main exhaust kicked off but then humidity shot up to like 85%. I crapped. I picked up a much bigger dehumidifier and set it up to only run at night and that fixed my problem. I pull down a couple of gallons a night but keep it below 60%. I think I will look at cooling but I want to maybe try glycol. I don't anticipate doing that until I put in a permanent room. I want to try CO2 but I can't until going to a completely sealed room similar to what AquaMan has done. The nice thing about the tent is you can experiment and see what works. Tear the whole thing down and change things around etc. I don't really want to do anything permanent until I get more experience.

Nice spread on that plant. I should have defoliated more. I am sure that will hold back the yield and bud development.

Ya super cropping is the shit but you can stress out you plant pretty good. My next grow I’m knocking them over at 4 foot and netting them down see if I can maximize. Only 4 plants are legal here

I had to check trichs again today because I keep thinking I am missing the peak. Still getting some white pistils on the Psycho plant and buds are gaining weight. Had 3 flop over today and had to tie them up. Still clear and I know 52 days is too early. But just because you know doesn't mean you believe lol.

The Purple Urkle buds are changing, growing darker in the center. I freaked because I thought I was seeing mold but its just the small leaves turning and contracting a bit. Lots of white pistils still coming out. I had slime on my pump in the 5 gallon cooler I use to mix so tonight I ran a cup of bleach and 3 gallons of water through the airstone and pump for a couple of hours. New airstone and a rinse of everything and a fresh 5 gallon mix for tomorrow. Trichs seem to be showing more amber than the Psycho plant which seems backwards as it took 7 days longer to start showing after the flip.

The big day 60 of flower and so far not much cloudiness in the trichs on the Purple Urkle but the buds are the most dense I have ever seen. So hard that when you bump into them in the tent they feel like a branch. Its starting to show its name with more pronounced purples. Had to bump up to 2 gallon feedings twice a day to get good runoff. Changed the mix around for the last time eliminating silicone and heavily bumping up phosphorous and potassium. Nice aroma with lots of berries.

The Psycho plant is a big question mark. The plant has yellowed out on the top so much it looks almost dead but there is still green around the bottom and up some branches. It gained bud weight last week and I had to stake up 5 more branches. I keep watching it for anything like mold or bud rot but it looks fine so far. Humidity in the tent is kept at a steady 55-65 at night with lots of air. I keep letting it go thinking it will be another week or two before harvest. I just need it to live a little longer. There is some amber in the up close trich shots but still lots of clear. The aroma is very nice.

Pretty much there I think on the Psycho plant. I need to setup a drying area. I am hoping the Purple Urkle takes an extra 8-10 to mature so I can get by with a smaller area.

I received the Purpl Pro Kit and after calibration ran a test on some popcorn bud I pulled off the Psycho plant about 26 days ago. With that timeframe and position on the plant I am confident I will hit the lower and maybe mid 20s on THC.
