I was just looking at Spider Farmer lights earlier, I would really like to try and do a bit of a slightly overkill thing and put two SF4000 in my 2/4/6ft tent, I would do a light schedule of 24/7 or 24/0 like I'm doing in my current setup (currently using two Marshydro TS1000) and do an experiment of how dense a grow would be possible with a hefty light setup like 2xSF4000

Yes, it really boils down to fundamentals, and how the original light progressed, I think once they progressed to the 2000's going wide again with the 4000's was the mistake, they should have made it double long instead, going wide again is far too intense in the center portion of the light footprint, thus the thoughts about revisiting the engineering part. Because the only way to reconfigure it to back the light off the plants, or turn it down.

But material availability and price are a big part of doing that affordably, so I don't know if it's possible.

It doesn't give the versatility to be able to spread the lights out to compensate. Anything that allows you to control the configuration and adjust the footprint is going to be very helpful. Sometimes less is more. I'm thinking 3 1000's, or better yet, 2x 2000's can be more efficient as one of the 4000, with good placement.

even if your only getting like 4x1 extra space, that's like 3 more plants possible. from say 9 possible to 12 possible which would equate to a 25% increase.

Spreading that footprint out allows you to dial down the lights closer to the pant with more intensity as before, resulting in better overall penetration and more optimum light coverage, all while increasing the canopy size.
one of the factors that is not considered by the growers is the shipping costs. all of these lights need to be shipped overseas and the smaller the package the lower the logistics costs. I personally purchased a 6 panel light that was only 4" between the two strips, so I spread them apart to cover a 3X5 room with only 6" of space all around the outside. I feel this has a better coverage. All light manufacturers try to have a high number, which can only be achieved by focusing more light in the center of the area, to attract buyers. IMO the lights should be spread out more to give an even canopy coverage so allowing the leaf at the side of the tent to have the same light as the center of the room. I am sure some day lights will be leaning more to the strip lighting stye and having them more to put it together at home style to save on shipping but give the best coverage for the end user. the current is that all the best diodes are bought before they are even made so the cost of the components is at a higher price point because of supply and demand leaving smaller profits for the light makers which means less money for R&D into new light configurations. all just my views.

My 3 HLG's are killing it. I looked at SF but they apparently do not hold a torch (punk intended) to HLG. Very happy with HLG quality and brightness.
Worth the extra $$

I see all of the gums flapping and the fingers typing, but @Grownsince95 has a nice grow going. Those lights appear to be doing pretty great! Plants look good. Wtf more can people ask for?

Raise your hand if you have been published in High Times or on any top shelf Canna Publlication/Website.

Get my point? I've got some plants doing 500 MILLION times better under LEDs than the same strain did under the sun as well as my Sunblaze T5HO's. Straight up. They are killing it. Do I even want to see if there is anything beyond that horizon? Nope. No way. For what? I'm growing for personal consumption only as are a lot of people here. But if I was growing commercially? I'm not sure I'd change a thing. I'd be PROUD to present the nugs coming out from under the lights over the counter of ANY dispensary bar none. Because the mids those fuckers carry are usually "cured" for 2 - 6 weeks before distribution and finish it out with the time they spend in the jar waiting to get bought.

Bottom line is that I can name at LEAST a dozen seasoned growers right here on this forum and at LEAST 2 new growers (5 grows or less) who are doing it on SF and other LED setups that will slay the quality of the majority of the dispensary weed that's out there.

And at the end of the day? That's good enough for me. Besides when my nugs look like someone pissed a frost storm over them, what comes next? Just a White Christmas style frost? Heh. To me it's not worth the Gravitas or HLG prices to put a couple more trichomes on the bud.

But whatever, it's a personal preference. I don't think there is a right or wrong answer, more like a right or wrong fit for the grow you run with the equipment that's available.

None of the argument has anything to do with a modern led being able to grow plants and at a higher efficiency and output per watt. The difference is going to be longevity and or premature failures due to cost cutting on parts and build quality.

You can grow big frosty buds with a handful of old cfl twisty bulbs. Its mostly grower and environment and genetics. Light is more of a how much thing as plants transfer photosynthesis to the most intense wavelengths anyway. How the plant grows can be customized with different color led’s but the market is in a pfd for the money contest rather than the real benefits of mixing color light for plant growth.

And its almost cheap enough to buy them now. ;-)

True that frosty nugs under whatever but this... this is what has got me all giggly. How does it get better and is it worth it? Like are my VS lights going to fail enough times to cost justify a Gravitas or HLG if this is the output I can expect from quality strains? And maaaaaaaaaaaan am i surprised about the first output from Mark from Strainlys stuff. I gotta get some today pics so you can see it for yourself. I'm half shocked but very thankful lol.

Sorry, no offense was intended. I was just offering up my opinion which I thought was ok. Someone needs to chill. Didn't mean to piss anybody off. Sometimes these forums are not fun.

I’d really like to see a side by side comparison of the SF-4000 and a Green Sunshine ES300, or evening an es180.
I’m currently in the market for new lights as I finally decided to switch from HPS/MH to LED’s.
I decided to start off with lights for my breeding program tent, a 2x4, as it’s the smallest I have, so I can try out LED’s before getting them for the rest of my grow.
I’ve been looking at damn near every brand out there, most of them made either in US or UK, except for SF.
Mostly though, I’ve been looking at Green Sunshine es300 due mostly to its spectrum and led directions, promises of finishing your grow weeks quicker, and most of all because they have a 90 day warranty so you can try them for one grow and see if you like them and if not, you send them back (return postage even paid by Green Sunshine) for a full refund, so your not loosing anything if you don’t like them. I do wish they had a larger model avail, as the recommended footprint of the es300 is 2x4, so you’d need 4 for a 4x8 flowering room.
If anyone has any experience with these lights I’d really appreciate your thoughts on them as I’m pretty close to grabbing one.
I’ve also been looking at HLG650’s, Kind, Blackdog 1000, Cali light works solar extreme1100 uvb, raylethon, and the like, but I’ve got to say I’ve also been looking at the SF4000’s.
As far as I d seen spec wise, the SF4000 should hold it’s own with most comparable size and wattage lights.
I’m so curious about the SF that even if I choose to go w Green Sunshine lamps, I might pick up a SF 2000 as well, just so I could try it out in a side by side test.
I hope to order my lights in the next day or so, as soon as I can decide on one, lol, and any advice on the best lights to get would be appreciated.
thanks,
Jory

Hi,
I was wondering if anyone has any experience or knows anything about Aquapots? I was looking at getting one of their setups, but would like to talk to someone whose used them first to get their take on them.
thanks a lot guys.

Hi Jory. Maybe start a new thread for aquapots so it doesn’t get lost.

I know you're not asking me lol but I've seen guys use 2 in a 4x4. I use 2 of a comparable size in a 2 x 8 space with fantastic results.
Yeah, I’ve seen 2 in a 4x4 before as well, I been considering a sf4000 for a 4x2 space if I end up going with SF.
