Yea, I take my health serious these days brother. I thought I was on my way out a little while back, the hacking and coughing was just so bad, but it's improved some. I haven't felt lumps in my throat as much when I swallow either these days, it's still an ongoing issue, no doubt. Migraines are a bit less too. I was a medical professional for 2 decades, so I've seen what happens. Don't want them sawing, drilling, cutting, mutilating or otherwise using me as a lab rat. lol. Once you get too bad, your simply finished, and dependent upon others. Like my wife unfortunately. I love her no doubt, but she is a handful, bad, bad things happen when we don't take good care of ourselves.Good on you bud!!! I got myself up to 350 lbs. Bad hips & living in a convenience / video store for 20 years with ice cream. chips & chocolate bars at my finger tips 16 hrs / day 7 days / week. Pot, will power and 1500 calories / day got me down to 220 in a bit over a year now. 3 - 500 cal meals. No chips, chocolate, ice cream or fast food. Lots and lots of coffee, carrots & lettuce...with the occasional pizza cheat day.
It took me about a year to lose most of it, and another to get down to where I'm at now, which is my normal bodyweight. But I can see now that I've lost the weight that some of my former muscle mass is gone also, probably been that way for years now, because of inactivity. I was running 6-10 miles a day, and lifting weights for hours on end 5-7 days a week for years. 100-150 days out of the year on the mountain, either skiing or mountaineering, I was highly active in my younger days. Used to get super baked and go eject my self off mountain tops until I had the second MCL tear, and fell about 400 feet. That was pretty much the end of skiing except for occasional groomers. When I lived in Utah, we got 633 inches of snow one year, it was crazy. Lots of good memory up on the mountains.
So I've always been active, up till now, and trying to claw some of that back. Using the total gym I've got every few days, cause my muscles don't recoup as fast anymore. It works great, could rehab any medical injury, because it's all basically resistance training, and the ropes/pullies give you fluid full range of motion. I also cook everything I eat, and lots of hot peppers, garlic, random roots, fresh berries, fresh apples, greens, raw nuts, grains, microbes, probiotics on dried fruits, yogurt, ect. Anything to target that cough and hacking. Seattle has abundant fresh food of all types, for good price. I make a good pizza every now and again, and we eat lots of rice and beans, tortillas. Lots of peppers, jalapeno, serrano's cooked or raw. That's our standard fare. I should have been a Mexican, cause I love the food. I rarely eat a midwestern American meal anymore, maybe once or twice a year, tops. I try to eat less meats, and eat lower on the food chain, like mostly chicken, fish and eggs. The wife is a veggie. Rarely any red meats, but I do still eat the occasional 2 slices of maple, apple or hardwood smoked bacon. That's probably the worst thing I eat these days. Good food habits are a learned behavior, no doubt.
Here's a standard meal;
