This is my plant about a week ago at approximately 8 wks. I have done nothing but give it nutrient water and 24 hr light. I just jumped into this without doing much research. After now doing some, I am finding out there are things I could have been doing to increase yield. By what you see, what can or should I be doing at this point? Plant is 24" tall and is in a very large pot. My tent however is only 5' tall. Top of plant is already 12" from light with no more room to raise light. I noticed the top leaves are a darker green compared to the lower and interior leaves. Any advice on how to move forward and get the most out of this plant?

Yes, you are running out of room (height) quickly and if you are now just going into flower (assuming this is an auto with 24 hours light) then you will experience a lot of stretch...space you really don't have now. You may need to lean the top of this girl over (like almost 90 degrees out to the side and you will have to do this about half way down to accommodate for what height will happen in your stretch period, so that after the stretch the top of your plant still won't burn . This is just my suggestion, but others might have more to offer.
In the future you might research how to do TOPPING, FIMING, LST TRAINING and SCROG techniques that will help you keep your plants lower and bushier, but auto's are not good plants to try this with, so you might consider feminized photoperiods, so you control the time in veg and when you are ready to flip to flower....makes training much easier 👍

I don't know if it is an auto flower. I found 1 seed in a jar of weed I bought. It was called Wedding Mintz. I believe the product came out of California. The 24hrs of light has nothing to do with type of plant, I simply have not gotten a timer yet to be on the 18/6 schedule. At least I think that's the light I should be giving it. What about a transplant into a 5 gallon bucket instead of the huge deck planter it is in? That would give me a little more room between plant and the light. Also, is it to late to start topping for more yield?

...and how much extra height do you think that will get you....and you still need to flip to flower and accommodate twice as much in height stretch....which means your going to need that timer sooner than later 🙄

don't transplant it. Jar seeds are unknown sex. So it can be a male or female and it is also photoperiod.

You have few options, super crop, and start the training. This will give you your height back and it will allow you to train it before sending it to flower. However, if its a male then its not good as you will only get seeds from it.

another option is to do a small cut and send it to flower by getting a timer and setting the proper hours. 11 hours of light, but you gotta make sure the room is dark after that. This options will allow you to find out the sex while you take some clones and then on your next grow you are sure that its a female and you can properly train it. let me know which option you wanna move forward with and ill help you get the most out of it

@PK1 is right... take this time to learn supercropping. bend that bitch completely sideways. because if you dont bend it If you lose it then fine. take it as a learning experience and next time grab multiple plants instead of one big pot they technically fill tents faster when you do multiple plants.

Edit: the upper growth is probably darker because the inside foliage isnt getting much light. you're plants going to stretch like a 1 or 2 feet in flower

awesome, thanks for that information. Now above i gave two options, which would you like to take?

if it was me, i would take some clones and send this to flower. However, you have to think about light, space and humidity fo rthe clones. A dome would be a good start.

Also, grab your self a temprature and huimity reader. their like 50 bucks on amazon. having a few wifi readers for that would be good as you can have it at different areas of the room/tent

Ok, 2 options. Cloning would be taking a clipping and re rooting it, correct? I read that the bottom third should be trimmed off, so I did that today and put the clippings in a cup of water. there are 3 levels of nodes(?) on each clipping. I only have one tent though. Please explain dome. To start flower cycle I need to be at 12/12 on light and dark? Someone mentioned I still don't have enough room to flower because the plant is going to grow a lot more during this cycle, is this accurate and what do I do about it? Thanks again for your time and info.

The colors are great.
As the plant stretched, the plant is focusing only on leaves that are getting optimal light.

Your running out of height.
She needs to get snapped @ the 3rd or 4th ...up from the bottom so she can run horizontal.
The branches below the snap will become main cola's also.

The budsets will all be even and you will have a great harvest with all flowers getting just about equal treatment.
All even fruit that will be more dense than original.
and remove those old fan leaves, dont be scraed to rip those older fan leaves out.

I'm torn between the 2 options. If I'm rooting clipping correctly, I should get 4 more plants. If I super crop it, can the top that is cut off be rooted? What would I do with it otherwise, discard it. How much time would it set me back by cropping? PK1 suggested clone it and start flower cycle. It seems, either way, I am almost starting from scratch. Anxious to flower my first plant. This is pic from this morning after trimming bottom. Re diagram please were it should be cropped if that is what I choose to do. So undecided on this. The plant is 8 wks old and I feel like I haven't gotten anywhere.

Dont think you know what supercropping is... it's really just bending it/breaking the inside of the plant so that its laying on its side. Even if it snaps in the middle you can tape or saran wrap depending what it needs the snap usually almost ALWAYS fixes itself. You can clone before you supercrop. Or you can clone and flower up to you.

I don't exactly. Just learning about all this as I go. This is why I ask advice from folks that have been there, done that. So I'm supposed to break the stem and just let it hang there?

you could super crop it like @2Bad mentioned and thats by bending the branch until you hear cracking sound. It's one way of going about it.

I think what you should do is take one clone from the main stem. This will give you a chance to regrow.
With this plant once you cut it, it will give you two new branches. It will also allow side branches to grow and you get some break from the height.

You can also take two clones and make the main plant smaller and veg it properly. However, space, light, and other factors play here so I think you should take one clone and push this plant to flower.

The clone won't need much light, but it does need to have a 18+ hours of light. So, maybe leave it in the living room while this plant is in your bedroom or whereever the areas are.

you mentioned here "unknown" for ph and ec/ppm. do you not have a ph pen pr ec/ppm pen? if not, you need to get one. If you are planning on regrowing i suggest buying bluelab vs amazon brands.

Correct. As I am just learning about the details of growing Cannabis, (which I never imagined was so extensive), I don't have any diagnostic tools. Any recommendations are welcome.

Find the point where you want the knot and then pinch the stem in the direction you want it to go.
or you can try to break the inside of the stem by simply twisting the stem in opposite directions with your fingers.
Then use a Y stake for support to keep it even in place . Make sure its braced well.
Do not let the tip go below the the bend line. Level it across.

You will notice the reaction within 3 hours as the leaves start moving and twisiting around leveling out.
This type of stress on a plant will add about 4 days to her calender for harvest.
This type of training is called high stress (H.S.T)
Plants cultivated using this technique usually have higher yields, mostly even sized fruit and are much "richer"

The combination of the plant releasing "healing agents" in max amounts to the "wound" along side of an even canapy makes for a "hardier" bud in all aspects.

LST or low stress training involves using anything and everything from rubber bands, tape, paper clips etc to bend the plant evenly WITHOUT BREAKING.
Most use a net and that is called SCROGGING.

Flower from HST vs LST are 2 different animals.

Marijuana Loves stress. Stress rejuvenates and triggers the development of desired traits, including:
yields
potency
taste and aroma etc

its really all about what you want to do and how YOU want to do it.
