They started filling in the next day. First pic is after the strip, second is from today, 4 days post-twig stage. Day 2 of 12/12.

looking good D. I've been wondering on which method would give more yield. You've seen my flower room which is one plant with many many tops or the style you are doing which more plants but less tops. What are you expect to yield from a single plant and from the entire crop?

I think you can achieve an equal yield with either method. But you can get there quicker with more plants. It shaves a lot of veg time off.
As for yield,.. I have to tell you, I never expect anything. I dont even expect to get a harvestable crop, ever. I do my best and I get what I get. I feel like proclaiming that I expect an X number of oz or lb's would be a form of hubris, and that kinda thing, I think just invites bad karma. I try and keep a little zen in my art of garden maintenance.

true and well said. let me ask it differently. Would it be possible that a plant with less branches has a bigger nugs and yield vs a plant that has more branches? I wonder this cuz i feel that the energy needs to go to many different branches vs a plant that has less branches which will allow the minimal branches to get full energy. hope that makes sense. lol

Yeah in that sense it does, and I think you get more marketable product if you thin the canopy and keep only the robust branches. That is, unless you fully Schwazz the plants.
If you Schwarz the shit out of a really dense bushy plant you get a ton of tiny buds.

Boils down to preference I think. My last crop i let go bushy, didn't prune a single node, just stripped leaves twice. My yield tied my best yield pretty much which had previously been lollipopped and pruned to the tip like I'm doing now. This method just gives you bigger buds overall. Yield seems about the same.

If I were growing a cash crop that's trimmed by machine, I'd go unpruned Schwazz like I did in my last run. For personal... what can I say, I like the big tops. For me and my own stash i want to try and produce huge chunky buds, and that don't always make sense from a mass marketing standpoint where you're breaking the whole crop down into g's, 8th's 1/4's etc for dispensary sale. I like 1/4oz single buds lol.

Perfect, you got my point. Yes, i grow for personal use and from the past grows i've noticed that many branches just equals to lower size buds. Although the colas get okay size, their not massive and overall its small nugs vs big once. You answered my question perfectly. I think on my next clone i will do four plants but im not gonna make many tops and just keep main branches.

But to somewhat give you a half ass answer to your question in the most Dharmically compliant way I can... IF this crop makes it to harvest without too many issues, I would be quite pleased to see a yield in the 100-130z range. Which I feel is about right for no Co2 and 900 ppfd without getting too crowded in here. And certainly enough to last me a year.

With Hydro it's the really, really small things that can fuck you up quick. Or I drink too much and unplug a fan by accident, or you have a critical equipment failure or get PM or some dumb shit. If experience has taught me anything it's that no matter how much experience you have, sometimes shit just happens. I've got my fingers crossed too, it's going well thus far and looking good. For how much it's all regrown in the last 3 days since stripping I'm thinking these could put on a lot more green plant mass in the next 3 weeks of stretch. I'll have to get some trellis up this weekend

Keeping a really close eye on the ec, trying to keep it 1.5 in the blocks, and been going in around 1.3 again for the last few days as I got a little spike the day after the strip. But the 1.3 input is giving me 1.5 between feedings in the block. I'll bump it again when/if I see the runoff ec come down.
Currently cut back to 4 waterings a day with a bit more dryback, with first runoff just a trickle on the second feeding, and good runoff by feed number 3. There is a shorter interval of time between feed 3 and feed 4 so that the last feed gets real good runoff 2 hrs before lights out.

Though, I expect I'll be adding a watering every other day soon enough and be back up to 8 waterings per day by the 3rd week of flower.

Looks good in there.👊 have to agree, never count the yield prematurely. It’s not a caught fish till it’s in the boat, 🎣
Or in this case, in the jars😹
You get it. Honestly besides the bad karma I think having expected outcomes takes your mind off the job, and the hard work you need to put in to achieve your desired results. Work toward a goal and have a high standard in mind, yes, but nothing is promised. The fish in the boat is the perfect analogy, but even then, some times the fucker will flop itself right back out of the boat 🤣.

That's why you put a belaying club upside its head. If a fish here gets crazy like that, they can drag small boats under.

For sure, so many variables in hydro that can go wrong fast. I always just try my best to give the girls the best life I can; keeps them (and me) happy.

What do you think of Floraflex’s general crop steering strategies Dirtbag?
I know these charts are for coco and all the specifics will be a lot different for Rockwool, I just mean in terms of a very general strategy for each stage of crop steering.
( I still hand water so this the best I can contribute, you could get much more accurate results with your automated system)

Canopy looks perfect. Amazing considering the different lights being used.
how tall is your room?
8' ceiling on one side and 10' on the other.
And I'm equally amazed how even they look. I think offsetting them a bit so the HPS cover about 60% of the floor while LED covers about 40% is keeping them well balanced. The ppfd is remarkably even across the entire footprint.

The HPS plants are drinking more water though, while the LED plants are eating more food, so it could get a little tricky balancing the feed rate and duration with this crop steering thing, I might need to abandon that and just go for runoff every feed if it causes issues. But so far so good.

Looks like the right idea but I'm not really seeing where they show how to manipulate the WC and ec for Vegetative or generative, which is kinda the whole point. Unless I'm missing something.
But generally yeah just letting it build up the WC slowly first half of the day until you hit saturation then runoff each time after there.

I'll be honest though it takes a LOT more attention and constant minor adjustments to do it right. Especially in rockwool. The switch from a net surplus of water between shots can quickly become a net loss of water between shots as the plants grow, and leave you with a dried up plant if you aren't constantly adjusting the volume and number of shots. Especially when you go from Vegetative to generative.
It would be REALLY helpful to have a grosens right about now over here.
