I have a dilemma. I noticed some swollen calyxes on my plant and upon further inspection it seems she's been pollinated 😔 I also noticed what appear to be new calyxes forming at the crook of the nodes, which seem empty. I am at 7 1/2 weeks flower. My question is, will the new/ existing calyxes form seeds and should I go ahead and harvest before they further develop? Thanks in advance
No let the cycle finish and hope that it’s not pollinated throughout. Have you found the source?

Really could be from anything, I live in a high grow area. I visited a buddies grow a few weeks back and he had some lemon Haze growing that had been seeded by a male northern lights which was still up. High probability I carried some pollen from his to mine. First grow, rookie mistake lol.

Super Silver Haze is one of my all time faves! Might have to keep you in mind. 😊
I have several phenotypes still in the R&D phase but my overall goal is to make a version of Forbidden Fruit that is A) Easier to grow B) Better yielding and C) Keeping as much of the Forbidden Fruit terpenes.

I believe the main reason Forbidden Fruit is not more widely grown is because of A and B listed above. It's not easy to grow and only has a medium yield, if that. Also FF average THC is only in the 15% range, so hoping to up that a little, as well. Aside from the fact that most of the growers with FF keep that shit on lockdown.

So far the phenotypes I have are looking amazing. One has the very uniform, big, dense bud structure of SSH, but still lots of FF terpenes.

I also just got a tester pack of seeds from Brothers Grimm - (Romulan x Grimm Glue XX) that I'm going to play around with, as well.

But yeah SSH is definitely one of my favorite strains, as well. It just takes so damn long to finish flower (Mine runs 12 to 14 weeks, easily) - so I'm hoping my breeding will also reduce flower time a little, as well.

I'll have a whole bunch of new strains available by next year - I don't want to put anything out there without finishing my own testing and development, first.

Well, on top of everything else that's happened this year. the week of sunny weather I was counting on to push a few of my girls over the finish line has been cancelled. This has been the most challenging grow that I have done, the freak PM issues early on, something I've never encountered before. Now I have some sort of mutant caterpillars that are assaulting my buds nightly, these aren't normal bud worms which can be easily ferreted out by looking for the brown spots. these are much larger, seem to come from nowhere, and eat way more than their miniscule cousins, who will happily sit in one area for a week these bigger interlopers move around and poop everywhere. I usually will have to follow the trail of dinosaur dung till I will see the fat bastard sitting on a bud munching away, they appear to be some form of high speed bud munching poop machines and they are fast moving, don't seem to have any predators and they are a mottled green and light tan worm that blend in so well to cannabises as to be invisible to anyone trying to find them. but I digress, here's a few of the ghanis and a of old lineage skunk that I' growing this year as well as a few sativa s that may actually finish this year.
Sun-grown, baby. Totally concur, very well-said. Trying to mitigate those uncontrollable risks that come along with the rewards of this wild and wonderful way to grow is pure nature, I love it. My favorite smoke ever was outdoor from Cali, not even grown by me. Something about it.
@steamroller That greenhouse is fire!!

I just pulled the soggy plastic off my make-shift greenhouse, and shook the little bit of residual moisture off the ladies, and I seriously almost passed out from the smell, it was so strong and pungently sweet. Crazy. I'm definitely going to go the @Deadstill route and rinse these buds off at harvest, tho, as I'm seeing poop, and slime trails, and cottonwood, and all kinds of love signs around my precious nugs.

Looking at the local 10-day, feeling blessed and grateful that we're looking in the clear here, and I should be able to give them the finish they deserve. Getting some cool colors coming in on the 2 early birds:

The Jan Brady pheno is so different-looking and far behind, but smelling similar, and I'm betting will fade into some unique looks!

In your experience how many generations does it take to get a stable seed that won't be prone to herm?

Thank you! It's unfortunate you've had a rough season, but the outdoor be like that sometimes. It is indeed the risk and reward game on the next level.
More pics of the Maui!
Girl#1 -- Still at about 10% amber (same as a week ago), but the buds are in a wave of packing on weight in lieu of aging out trichomes, and are looking different by the hour it would seem:

No Sun, but finally got to take the canopy of her. Looking good for 7 1/2 weeks. Fighting a slight PM problem, that is why she is pruned Soo much. I wanted to make sure air flowed around each bud. Thought she had been pollinated, but after extensive reading and inspection, have determined she is good. A few swollen calyxes, but they're empty. Still looking on track for a chop in a week and a half./?

I have a couple of questions. In my pics above, would you consider my buds as having a high leaf to calyxe ratio? Could you point me to an example of a low leaf to calyxe example. I'm in MI and growing outdoors, with the cool nights shouldn't I be seeing some purple leaves? Thanks.

From my experience with the strains I am propagating, I have eleven years at it and seem to have a pretty stable seed . I am growing the old school skunk and an old afghan hash strain that has excelled considering the major differences in elevation between my home and where the strain originated. The biggest obstacle to overcome was finding male pollen of the same strains. My endless searching was rewarded by an old friend who currently resides in northern cal, and has been at this endeavor as long as i have. He lost his home recently but managed to save his goodies which he was more than willing to gift some of them to me in return for a share of the end product.

It's ILGM's Maui Wowie.

I'm a student of Cannabis history, and have grown out quite a few classic strains over the years, but this was my first go with MW.
I'm well-aware of the contentious history of the strain known as "Maui Wowie", if there even is/was a singular cultivar by the name, but I love the high with the MW that I have had, and knew it would be fun to see the sub-trop expression in a veganics outdoor grow in a high-desert climate.

In response to both your posts, I think the leafiness and purple you're looking into are both genetic expressions that are only influenced by grow conditions. Your plant looks healthy, maybe a little green and leafy -- like it's had a lot of N -- but P is a harder macro for the plant to access, and higher humidity in flower also changes things a bit. How much mold are you fighting? I think if you could go longer than a week-and-a-half, do it -- based on trichomes and such, of course. The fade happens with senescence, and based on just a pic, it looks like your plant has a bit before that starts happening. Whether you'll get purples or any other color depends on humidity, temp, DLI and UVB, soil ph, and most of all, genetics.

I would suggest keeping them as dry as possible and staying as patient as possible. And be real paranoid about mold.

Thanks J.dub. I feed it once a week with a Dyna- grow starter kit. I follow the chart that came with it. Although I am mixing the ratios per the chart, it seems the consensus is I probably should only have been doing half of the nutes it said. As far as the mold, it's not much. Sporadic spots on some bigger leaves, nothing on the buds as far as I can see. I have stripped her just about as much as I can. As for chopping, I meant to say that in a week and a half I will be at 9 weeks and will flush before chopping. So more like 2 1/2 weeks until harvest, nature permitting.

I gotcha, yeah. Most feeding schedules for soil seem to assume that the soil is a light, unbalanced mix, and nutrient companies make their money off selling more nutes, so take that into consideration. A balanced, rich, living soil and a large enough container should take a well-trained plant pretty far into flower with only SSTs or topsoil dressings, with water-soluble or chelated nutes added only when certain signs are noted. This is all based on the grower's experience and preference, of course.
