First time grower, have some questions

Yup, one or two branches as a guide, you can still learn the art of bend and snap but this is more scientific. I trim all the fans and hang branches or whole plant with a fan drawing air across them, low 60’s temp and humidity. I don’t trim sugar leaves til i use it, then that pile gets dry sifted later.

Okay cool, thanks! Yeah, I wasn't planning on trimming the sugar leaves until it's dry and going into the grove bags.

I was going to go by leafly's drying guide at 50% humidity at 70F (since I know my tent will stay at around 70-72F during the day with the light off): https://leafwell.com/blog/drying-and-curing-cannabis/
Think that would be an issue? There's no way to put an AC in there, and it's winter time so I can't just turn off the heat source to the house.

No, it has to be 60°. You got this. I’ve dried near 90°, just quicker but the weight loss still stops when they’re dry, and they don’t lose weight in the cure. Too dry and it won’t cure, too wet and it gets mold.

So I just went to check on the girls and I noticed one bud that has what looks like amber powder on the leaves:

I snipped the end of a sugar leaf to get a closer inspection, and it doesn’t look like mold, or smell like mold, but my lighting isn’t the greatest.

It also wipes off fairly easily (you can see one tip that I did wipe off)

It’s in the middle of the canopy so I can’t easily go in and view it up close.

Any ideas? Is it just amber trichomes I’m seeing here?

Today’s pics:

Some of the other leaves turned amber and were near the front of the tent, so I was able to get a good inspection and it’s just trichomes :)

Watered the bottom plant, and lights will be out in 45 mins.

Just a canopy pic today.

Watered the lower plant last night about an hour before lights out, which I shouldn’t have waited so long as it spiked the humidity through the night. Fortunately it didn’t get too high, about 58%. Not the end of the world, but still didn’t like it getting that high.

Today’s pics - the kola forest:

They’re all over 2” thick and very dense. Not monsters, but a good size.

I noticed some more copper looking spots on some other leaves, so I got to googling and saw that it’s a calcium deficiency. Since I’m in week 8, and probably only have 1 watering left before I chop, there’s probably not much I could do for it anyway especially since I stopped nutrients 2 waterings ago.

Sorry for jumping the gun, I read the first page then jumped to the last.

I see your plants are now looking healthier than ever!

Can I leave a tad bit of advice regarding pests for future reference.

My elimination process.

If it isn’t ‘powder’ like or ‘hairy’ like, it isn’t Powdery Mildew

If it isn’t ‘like a slug/snail trail’ it isn’t Thrips

If it isn’t ‘Fluffy, Super Hairy’ it isn’t Mould/Rot

If you don’t see ‘Webbing’ or ‘Strings’ or pest as obvious as Spider Mites, it isn’t Spider Mite.

Thrips are your most common pest.
Spring Tails are also very common in Hydroponics (both are not sever cases of pests)
Thrips and Springs can both be contained.

Thanks for the info!

The mold/rot and thrips info is very helpful. I've seen spider mites in the past at my old house on outside plants and bushes, but fortunately I haven't seen any signs of them in my tent (or even outside of my new house). The only bug I got this grow was fungus gnats, and even though my traps have prob 15 or so on each one, there is never any flying around anymore.

I've never seen a spring tail (just googled it), and I hope I never do xD

My only real concern these days is bud rot/mold, and PM. PM I'm not too worried about because I don't think I let my environment get remotely close to the conditions where it would form, but rot/mold is more of a concern since you can't really see it until it's too late.

This is an awesome idea Gnick55 my fabric pots just sit in the tray never had a problem but airflow under em must help somewhat I’d say great idea now to find some cheap ass golf balls for my next grow

This tent is getting higher than normal humidity due to all the rain raising the humidity in the basement. It’s not too high, but high enough at 61%, so I’ve opened the tent a bit:

It’s keeping it below 55%, so hopefully when the left plant dries out a bit more it’ll balance out and stay low.

They look good man! Just some advice to help you get better yeilds next grow; Dont defoliate that much. I only ever defoliate enough to be able to water the bottom of the plant without damaging branches and hitting leaves (about 4-5 inches from the bottom. The leaves are the production facilities of the plant and even if your colas arent getting light they will grow and mature so long as your plant is healthy. They will just have a slightly lower trichomes production but are still well worth growing.

Overall great job on making it this far on your first run! She is alive AND healthy, and thats more than most growers can say of their first grow.

Just did a very light watering to both (about 8 ounces each). They didn’t need it, but I’m planning on chopping tomorrow and don’t want them too dry when I do.

I likely won’t be able to chop until early evening, so I may give them another splash of water in the morning then let them have a last light on cycle.
