I wouldn't say mastered, always room for improvement. My overall impression was that it was a game changer for me in this climate. I purposely tried to keep them in check for stealth purposes, that was the whole reason I did a scrog in the first place, I also put them in buried fabric pots to somewhat contain thier size, so I'd say my yields were definitely not at max potential. My husband almost had 37 heart attacks the previous year due to my untamed forest that was obvious to anyone that went up my front steps and could see over my fence. My biggest and oldest lady, Black Cherry Punch, yeilded 30 ounces. Super Silver Haze was started a few weeks later, she yielded 14 ounces. Amnesia Lemon was a little behind BCP, I think she yeilded about 13 ounces... I can't remember exactly, she was last down so she's not on the list I can find lol. The other 3 were at a second location, not scrogged. The scrogged ones were far easier to care for. I could see everything and keep any debris off, keep a better eye on pests, defoliate and remove dying leaves easier. The buds were more uniform in size, no gigantic tops, well not as big as they would have been untrained anyway lol. This is the first year ever I've not had a major issue with rot or pm, there was close to none in the garden only very minimal pm on some inner lower leaves at the very end that I easily removed before it spread because I was able to spot it right away. I also bought a leaf blower and having them contained in the scrog made drying them easier. I had no broken limbs despite some decent wind storms. Having a large spread out plant was helpful during the super hot dry times, I sprayed the top soil with water to add some humidity. Overall, only benefits, no drawbacks other than needing to stay on top of moving them regularly to keep up, but that's scrogging for ya... I wanted to move them one more time, but I went camping for a week and they grew so much I didn't want to risk breaking them so I left them. Lot's of people say scrogging outside is unnecessary or silly, but I disagree, in my climate it's 100% helpful. Oh and I had a built-in frame for when I had to cover for frost.

Uhhhh..... if you're able to pop colas like that I would say you've pretty much mastered it!!!! πŸ˜„

Good to hear on the outdoor scrogging. After having read your account I can see how outdoor scrogging would have major benefits.

For all the fun that it is to grow monster colas they aren't all that practical when it comes to bud rot, pests and other diseases that can infect them. Scrogging may not give you monster colas but what it will give you is maximum yield and easier crop maintenance.

Well now I have to show my pups.
This is Dexter, he's a pit. This is an older pic but it's my favorite. He's going on 9 now, his teeth are all flat because he's nuts, we live on a river and he dives for rocks, big ones, takes them to the riverbank and licks and chews the river flavor off. 🀣

This is Daphne, lab/aussie mix, mine and my husband's first baby, going on 13, going blind and mostly deaf, but such a good girl. She's camped, canoed, snowshoed and hiked countless mountains with me (as has Dexter) She's retired from adventuring these days.

Which brings me to my new adventure buddy, added to our clan a mere 3 days ago. Daisy, she's 6 months old and was born in the shelter to a mama that was surrendered while pregnant. She's a pit mix, a little shy and skiddish as she's never had a home or family, but that won't last. I can tell already she's super smart and will be a love bug as most pits are. She's mama's baby, I made sure of that by picking her up alone lol.

100% and I think yield would actually be improved if I let the roots run free, which now that I know I can scrog outside successfully, I will do next year. The year prior I had 3 POUNDS of larf that went to the butter/concenrate pile... guess how much larf I had this year? Zip, zero, zilch.
I'd also say trimming and drying was easier because I do it by the arm and there was no smaller crap to contend with. I also wash, which was also made easier.

You aren't kidding. Watch Bellas eyes blink to the beat. I couldn't have done that intentionally if tried. Can barely find the tiktok app 🀣

Yes. Dogs are the best ever. like we said before too bad they can't live as long as we can. that would be so cool. thing is though, we probably wouldn't have that many of them in our lives if that were the case. I've been blessed to have had some of the best dogs in my life. ok, just finished my fried fish dinner, yummy, and time for a bowl.

Definitely! Letting the roots run free is going to really bump up the weight especially since it's outdoor.

Have you ever done an outdoor vertical trellis grow? I wonder what that would be like?

Whelp you and your man seem cool af and the kind of people my lady and pups wish knew more of πŸ™Œ
Those dogs are to die for. I can't see Daph cause she was snowsified but sheesh she looks like s big wolf in that pic. I love both of those breeds much. Both Dexter and Daisy in my opinion may both be American Bullys. Prett much 5050 apbt/staffy. Did you get them tested by chance? I did embark on Bella and the only info I gave was her name and she came back American Bully.

@TSD - Do you do anything to prepare your flower beds like tilling and amending your soil?

When I worked at an outdoor farm we would dig holes 3 feet deep and fill the bottom half with hot fertilized soil we made at the farm and fill the other half with regular fertilized soil. You could always tell when the plant hit the hot ferts!!! πŸ˜„

She is perfect that is for sure. Definitely some pit and staffie and few other breeds. I just took this and sent to wife and she said
"you must be cooking" 😑 true but I wrote back
"WOMAN! YOU ARE ON THIN ICE! IT IS BECAUSE THEY LOVE ME" to which she promptly replied
"yeah cause you are cooking" πŸ˜‚
I can see your wife and I are going to get along.....JUUUST FINE!!! πŸ˜‚

Funny story but I bet she might look familiar. Do you recall this poster from lonnnng ago -> HERE or HERE Yup that's my Wendy πŸ€—πŸ˜‚
Sorry to say it but I've had my hands on your wife multiple times!!! LOL!

Cool! St. Pauli Girl Beer!!!! 🀘

I do pure organic dark leaf compost, no till permaculture gardening, never added any amendments to it no pesticides ferts or herbicides, just plain water the full season and she was rockin, I do dump my pots of amended soil on top of the garden rows when my indoor runs finish now but that’s all I do almost time to start getting her ready, blizzard snow melted quick and now everything is just saturated top video is end of season half the plants have been harvested already but she was packed solid lol just tomato plants alone had a row and a half that was around 35-40 tomato plants lol

Habanereos, Chiles, Cucumbers, Cantaloupes, Tomatoes, Bell Peppers.......wow...Nice veggie garden. Are those heirloom tomatoes? Whenever I grow heirlooms I always split them from watering too much. I never can get the water ratio right so that they don't split.

that sounds good, but don't ask me to get "scroggy with it" lol
here is a name suggestion:
"Show me yours, I'll show you mine: SCROG General Chat"
or
"SCROGs and the people that love 'em"

Scrog Logs. If you do it I'm changing my screen name to Dr. Spock only when I post in that thread!!! I'll do a diary and start each post with "Star Date **/**/****"! πŸ––

I have not, but I do like to try new things every year. 😊

Thanks, we like to think so lol, hard to find cool peeps in the real world sometimes.
I have not gotten them tested, didn't know that was a thing lol. Here's some better pics of Daphne down at our river, she's actually not that big, about 40 pounds, that was just an epic snow lol.

Wow! Lab/Heeler mix. Must've been a handful when she was younger.

Well for a few years I grew up at my dad's, he's in the woods, which were pasture many years ago, so he has amazing soil. When I started at my own place I started in tubs and made my own mix, manure, mushroom compost, guano, Epsom, eggshells, bit of old coffee, blood meal, bone meal, perlite, my own compost, probably a few things I'm forgetting, mixed it and let it cook. Always had good luck for not really measuring. Then 2 years ago I did the same but put them in holes full directly in the ground, hence the resulting trees that gave my husband a heart attack and kicked my ass.

This year I had a lot going on in life, my dad is sick on top of motherhood and everything else in life, so I didn't mix my soil in time to cook it, so I just used ocean forest and Dutch Science nutes once they ate that up. Might try ShadedOne's method with the Gaia sometime... but I'm sold on Dutch Science nutes too, so we'll see.
Edit to add for reference, I'm 5'9", my husband who is 5'7" on a good day calls me an Amazon. Whatever bro. 🀣
