Just a friendly heads up to everyone, I blew threw this last batch of skunk seeds before I even realized it. I have 3 packs left of the Road Kill Skunk for the next 5-6 months it looks like. Each pack is 15 premium regular photoperiod seeds plus a few extra half white ones that should germinate about 50% of time, for $120. Shipping included inside the lower 48 states. ✌🏻
I should get some from you, let's catch up tmrw? Ty.....

Same... I use my UV and IR the last 2-3 weeks of flower
I'm looking to add it in, but you've both given me more confidence that it could make a difference.........even if that difference is only a bit more terpene intensity, that alone would be worth it.

For you, and BackBoo.... ;).....why during flower only? Do you think they could go for s little acclimation to the UVÙ? What/how many hours do you use it, and how do you add IR? I Have 1 full spectrum and 1 full spectrum that leans more red. I was thinking 1-2 hrs a day, I don't know if whether the first hours or last hours of the 12 on are better, but I'm willing to try it in a variety of ways.

You can run UV and IR during the whole flowering stage. That would be called the Emerson effect. HOWEVER, this makes your plants stretch more and gives less dense bud. It does increase Terpene production. It will make the buds almost greasy... I turn UV on the last 2-3 weeks and IR is turned on the last 2-3 hours at the END OF EACH NIGHT for the last 2-3 weeks of flowering. Kinda a bitch to navigate but it's worth it imo. ✌🏻

I've never searched for actual infrared lights? You actually add infrared?

I built my own custom QB 288's using Alibaba parts
That just went way over my head..... ;)

Any studies done on IR? Obviously we go a bit more red spectrum for flowering, but I've never seen anything on infrared.

Wait, you add IR during the (end of) the dark cycle...??

I thought IR just allowed plants to have longer days and remain in Flowering... I like a little UV all the way through it keeps Powdery Mildew in check...

CAn someone tell me how the digression into LIght discussion is related to this thread. Let me guess. UV light brings out the Volatile Sulfur Compunds?
More of a turn them a digression. :)

I think most of us fall somewhere between the jury being still out on whether UV adds anything.......and "can't hurt", with some people noticing some benefits, and we're all waiting on definitive studies/proof.

I build my own lights that rival the HLG Diablo. Uses the bigger, 4 panel subset instead of bars.

I got an idea what if we can open up the VSC pathway through a breeding program that feeds the absolute maximum levels of Sulfur or VSC's or Sulfur feeding nutrients and bacteria. WE do this for 10 Years and we create the ultimate Pure SKunky strains... The idea is to get the Plant to open up its metabolic Volatile Sulfur Compund pathways...

I doubt it's that easy. I have had plants that smelled like firecrackers before. My guess is we would end up somewhere around there 😂

So,

To bring things back on track, here is my current skunk hunt.

Oldschoolchronic - Kentucky skunk
I_GROW_SKUNK-skunk
I_GROW_SKUNK - 70’s afghani
Kandahar Maruf black

I just took a clone from each seedling about a day ago. Once they are rooted, I’ll flip them to flower in solo cups. I’ll keep all the females, and the stinkiest male of each cultivar.

Once flowering is complete, unless I find i winner, I will make seeds with each, no crossbreeding. Then grow out the next gens.

So far, the plants are too small to really express aroma, but many have quite a funky, although not skunky, smell. I will reserve my judgement till flowering. The 70s afghani had huge indica leaves, very pretty.

The Maruf black seedlings, even though they are the youngest by far have quite a strong aroma on leaf rubbing. Very excited for these.

Very cool. Usually once they get 3-5 nodes you can start to smell funky things on the rub. Not always. Some are late bloomers. It's just whatever the genes decided to express on that exact plant, but some will start to stink. Thanks for the update bud 🙏
