the idea of it makes too much sense. I’ve never applied this, it was always a hard flip for me, I’m definitely going to try this next run though, you handle your plants with kids gloves doing everything else, so why not on the flip too…..
don’t stress it, every 4/5 days i lower an hour now.. use to do 30 min every 4 days..
here.. some more nature
light stuff..

You do have some lead time......if that's the right way to put it. When you flip, new leaf/branch growth doesn't come to a halt that day. It's not ALL stretch. Over that first week there's still some growth and filling in while the plant figures out what's going on. So as we defoliate near the end of veg, we can take this into account.

Most experimenting we leave to others, science.......we don't tend to want to play around with the unknown. But something I plan on doing is a gradual flip. 12/12 is actually very abrupt for almost all varieties. In most regions, and I can only speak for most of the US......not northern Alaska, or the Florida Keys.......certainly not Hawaii or Thailand.....but in the majority of the US, 12/12 doesn't happen until when? November? Why are we flipping from June to November in one day?

What if we flipped to 14/10 to start? For that matter, what if we did 14/10 until harvest, but that's another experiment......

14/10 for 30 days, 13/11 for 30 days, 12/12 until harvest. Maybe even 11/13 to finish.

If 14/10 to start gives a more gradual flip, maybe it gives us more time to defoliate, and allows the plant more time to fill in.....

"You defoliated too much!"

"Don't worry, it will fill in very well...."
I swear I growed some outdoor plants about ten years ago and started them indoors and kept them on 24 hour light cycle. Set them out after last frost and bam they started budding. I harvested mature plants over six foot tall in August that year and that was towards the east coast USA. Some of the best outdoor I ever smoked. I think because I keep lights on for 24 hours a day they thought they were getting ready to die because the shorter days and basically started budding soon as I put them outside. Sounds crazy but it's true

With today's timers, Wifi.....at least the programming part is easier. Then we have to make sure we work around the schedule.....probably having a calendar posted. Hey, I can put it next to my intercept letter and those studded punk rock bracelets that company mailed me, with the seeds inside each stud that took me an hour to take apart.........I'm gonna write them a letter, rip it up into 11 pieces, and put each piece into the cheap aluminum studs on a cheap leather punk rock bracelet.

I don't know the exact dates you started them, and put them outside, but plants don't only go by the length of dark signal. That might be 95% of it, by far the dominant signal.......but age of the plant could have a say as well. If you start a plant outdoors in the spring, that's it's "normal" life start. But if you put a 3 month old plant outdoors in the spring, that's unnatural and now the plant is genetically coded to start flowering 3 mos before the ones started on time. Even though the right length of dark hasn't happened yet, some plants might just start flowering anyway. The fact that you started their lives under 24hrs of light could also have had an impact. If June 21st is the longest day of the year, let's say plants start flowering about 1 month later, May 21st is pretty much the same amount of dark as July 21st. Put a 3 month old plant that's started at 24hrs of light outdoors on May 21st and it might very well flower as if it's July 21st. It doesn't know the light is still increasing.......

Doing that could cause the plant confusion. After a couple of weeks of decreasing dark it might revert to veg mode, or worse, it might do that limbo thing where it's stuck in veg and flower........depending on the variety, some plants might plow right through June, July, and flower away, giving a huge plant with big, mature buds in September when others still need another month or so. Or, the plant can get stuck, take too long to catch up with reality, and you get a large, leafy, odd, not so great plant. Or it could revert back to veg, start flowering later than it should have, and on Oct 20th it still needs another month, but frost ends up killing it. Or maybe the worst possibility of all, it's so confused, stresssed, it starts putting out some male flowers too........potentially ruining any nearby female.

i slowly drop my hours until i reach 12/12 usually takes 3 weeks from 18/6..
speaking of 18/6 i keep meaning to but again even this time i keep forgetting.. which is i’m going to start plants with 16.5/7.5 .. which in most areas of the world the longest daylight day is 16.5 hours.. plants won’t start to flower until 14/10.. View attachment 2001299View attachment 2001300
Thanks so much for the chart! May try this with the plants I have started to veg.

Exactly, smiles, proper crops, and a bong and a blintz. oh and every plant isn’t always going to be the most amazing plant on earth, issues pop up all the time, it’s incumbent on us here to try to give the most sound proven advice while remaining respectful to any differences. I think most growers are definitely happy to provide, safe quality smoke/medicine while doing your level best to perpetuate greatness for everyone. It’s part of why this site exists imho. To build each other up, not be raging pricks. You sir, seem like a good person.👊🏻
Thank you for the encouraging and kind words. I can’t imagine spending my day bashing on others that are trying their hand in something they may have little knowledge on. I would rather discuss, encourage, learn, and compliment on the things someone is doing well! That means even if I have a different opinion. With an open mind we can see the good behind that bad.

Thanks for sharing on this thread, it has been a fun flowering period for me and look forward to seeing some more folks successes.

I mean......they look ok... ;)

Yeah like I said the older I get the more questions I have, and the more I learn that it's better to ask questions than think I know the answers. Everyone has their things........I like to look at the other side, often of what's accepted or popular......a little devil's advocate, contrarian, even if it's a little silly, because somewhere in there I learn more. We already know what we know........what do we not know? Plus, that's where the fun is.
Preach!!!! Absolutely, have fun and enjoy the process. Learn along the way and better yet. Share with others that may have questions or are interested in the same things.

Facts! That is exactly why I am going to try it.

Milky or clear?
Clilky ;)

It's hard to tell what's really going on from the whole plant perspective. It's going to be a lot of "on one hand, on the other hand". The trichome thing is only one way to judge readiness. I see white hairs.....is it still blooming? Where is this bud? The top? Bottom? What does the whole plant look like? What variety is it? And how many days has it been since flipped.......or is it an Auto...?

I mean, they seem more on the milky side, but it's like looking at a picture of a woman's arm and asking of she's hot...... ;)

Pine coned
I love when my buds shape up like that haha, I like being able to trim handfuls of similar sized buds, seems to make the flow of trimming go easier lol as well as drying, probably all mental but… 🤷‍♂️😂

Full plant shot, look at that poor KKSC up at the top with her crazy mag def lol, same 2/3 feed rate as Frostette since she’s in a 3 gal instead of a 5 but she wanted more still lol
