I spent close to $300 on a telescope then learned quite quickly that a $300 telescope is still squarely in the "cheap junk" territory when it comes to precision crafted lenses and mirrors lol


Almost bought an $109 on Amazon first. Real glad I didn't. It probably wouldn't have even been usable. Good binoculars would prob have been a better choice then the $300 one let alone a $100 one lmao

When I come see you, hopefully next month, I’ll try to remember to bring you a decent wide field lens if you want. It’s not too heavy so your cheap scope can probably manage it. Eyepiece quality in my opinion is slightly more important than scope quality, but when they start weighing more than a pound, cheap scope focusers start slipping. I had to modify mine to hold my 4 pounder. Anyways yeah, you’re welcome to that eyepiece which has a really good, comfortable field of view. I don’t use it because it’s so bright that my astigmatism makes it shitty for me to look through. Everything just looks like headlights in the rain for me.

i left that telescope with my Ex gf in KC lol. Her 5yo was all about it. Way more then i ended up being. Kicked off an astronomy passion for him too.

The kid had names of stars that were just letters and numbers and their positions memorized within a couple weeks and could find stuff in focus with it WAY faster then i could. Children get astonishingly good at stuff astonishingly quickly when the passion hits. Its kinda remarkable.

My worst experiences have been ... 2004 Charley and Frances when I lived in Jax, down here was Irma in 2017. Both times was without power for 10 days . It's the waiting game that's unnerving but they are really good at predicting now should break up good be a cat 1, which is normal here.. at least by the time it reaches Orlando area. Im exactly one hour northwest of Orlando, you and your family have my prayers! just stay vigilant and listen to the warnings . If they tell you need to leave, take the steps that you can to stay safe.

You may be adding Milton to your worst of, list. Do you have an upstairs?
Mom and I are still in Michigan, thank goodness, but friends (lakeland) and son (orlando) are in the path.
I know the roads out of there are packed, but.....

Yea milton is bigger. And Helene was like 4x the size.

Andrew looks cute next to today's hurricanes. That's for sure. Milton went from thunderstorm to cat 5 in like 36 hrs and barely moved 100 miles doing so. Fuck that storm, and Good luck to Florida. Looks like no single part of the state isnt gonna get hit by it. The eye alone is 5x bigger by square mileage then it was this time yesterday. So much for a small wind field on arrival.

Im already letting one friend move in at the new place because his house was essentially washed away by helene along with everything he owns. I have a couple friends in Florida that have both asked if they can come up here to dodge the storm. One decided to stay put and one is on their way here now.

The one who stayed put is 20 mins due north of tampa bay 10 mins from the main coast. Im pretty worried because Helene just gave him dangerous levels of confidence to ride this one out. Most killed by hurricane storm surge are people who gained confidence riding out previous storms.

Andrew was cat 5 when it came ashore. I watched that one build in the Atlantic. They don’t name hurricanes Andrew anymore, after the damage it did. We got good swell in NY from it. We both have the same name.

im confusing it with another storm in the 90s then. There was a storm that made landfall as a cat 2 in the 90s, it wa sjust so damn big that it still ended up being one of the costliest storms of all time (at the time)

looking up andrew, there are sources that claim 5, 4, and 3. 5 at the time with the technology, 4 based on some other more modern scale, and 3 (i havent read that much yet i just tabbed back over lol)

Ill have to look it up lol.

Every time a meteorologist has compared a storm to andrew over the last 10 years, i was thinking andrew was that massive cat 2 storm.

Apparently andrew was forcast to be cat 2 at landfall, just huge. But it rapidly intensified right before landfall leaving Florida totally unprepared.

Memory is a weird thing. Now im in a rabbit hole and super curious.

if you cross a high resin content drug strain into that genepool, then select a desirable pheno to cross back with the original plant, youll end up with a kinda sorta stable batch of seeds filled with high thc, high resin contents, and often very unique terp profiles too. My 1:1 cbg:thc point break was made this way.

that's the plan, I have several resinous drug-type female clones ready to flower once the ferals have popped. My plan is cross feral male with drug female, then crossed female with drug male. Depends on how it all turns out ig. Gonna be interesting to grow them nonetheless!

My Biggs pheno. Pre 2k10 Bubba x gelato44. Riddled with septoria. Starting to color up a little and look pretty dank. Halloween plant for sure. I still think i can finish her before all her issues do lol.

And PB4. 3 of her branches survived the storm. Looking like Halloween flower too. Maybe little bit sooner.
