Everything else you named is a brassica except the Swiss Chard. I can't grow them here uncovered. They will be gone, striped naked in 10 minutes. Even when covered, I have to check on them daily. Pest come from the soil too. I don't till.

Brassica are a favorite of mine. Had 13 heads of cabbage last year and made kraut with it. Even went to my aunt's to get my grandma's kraut cutter and crock. Anyhoooo, telling you this so you know to start out using BT on your brassicas. The white moths you see are cabbage moths. They are dropping an egg everytime they land. There are many different kind too. Moths are white. Caterpillars are green.

I'll take a picture of my black magic kale tomorrow and show you. Just bones. That plant is 3 years old. And it freezes here. Leave them in the ground instead of pulling them at the end of the season or when insects have destroyed them. You'll be surprised. Some will go to seed and provide you with more seeds at year end or when it gets hot. Others will just return and provide more food.

Kale is a perennial? Nice to know.
Daughter grew mustard greens and cooked them for us. First time I ever had fresh ones cooked properly and they were delicious!

When I had a big vegetable garden years ago, I gave the kids butterfly nets and told them to catch the moths. Didn't help. And I wouldn't use the chemicals on them, around the kids. (This was BEFORE Bt, yep I'm old.)
So I only grew broccoli one year. Kids and hubby wouldn't touch it, even after I scooped the worms off the surface of the boiling water. LOL

Here she is. 3 year old kale plant. I missed her when I pulled up all the others that got destroyed by cabbage worms. She grew back stronger than ever. That fall, I left her. She started putting off new leaves the following spring. Her new growth is at the top on the inside. You harvest from lower branches.

I love mustards. My dad grew 100 varieties of heirloom leafy greens. Ever tried to talk someone into a pound of italian chard? Explained the difference between red russian, curly, and lacinato kale? or how lacinato, dino, black, and tuscan kale are the same thing

I have a lot of produce knowledge, just not growing it 🤣

Anyways, I worked market and would bring home all the veggies I could, except when my wife was pregnant with my second, there was a 9 month broccoli ban. It was all she could smell lol

But mustard..we had the southern mustard which is the weed mustard, all the yellow flowers. We had red chinese mustard, which was spicy as fuck. Green chinese was like wasabi. Then we had a few different kinds of mizuna, which is a japanese mustard…

yeah. a lot of talking to sell a $5 bag of greens

My greens don't get demolished like my brassica.

Haven't grown that. It is a beautiful vegetable. Seen it in the store.

Look into what their specific needs are. They may require a whole lot of babying in the beginning.

Sounds like your Dad is a cool guy. 😊

meh, good farmer, bad at the rest, won’t trauma dump this early in the day 💀

I REMEMBERED TO CLOSE IT. Was about 46-48 when I went to open it. Was pleasantly surprised.

Everything’s looking okay. The one lemon wonder is popping up. Looking like I’ll have seven plants, maybe 8. Fuck it, more weed is better.

Oh what? A reason to plant more seeds? Shit if I have to. I got some ‘black’ strains, maybe this winter is the time to grow some charcoal kush.

Autos be autoing! We are at day 16-17 for all expect the lemon wonder. That fucker sat there there for over two weeks before deciding to
join the party.

Moved my little grow table out of the corner of the greenhouse and centered it between the door and the two windows, feel like that corner was getting too hot. I could put them outside as the weather has been nice? I think I would rather get them acclimated in one spot than try and move them around? I don’t know.

They’re all looking good though. Green crack is making up for having helmet head. Strawberry cough is looking like my favorite.

Probably in two weeks I’ll try my first ever lst. Gonna hole punch the pots and use a pipe cleaner to bend these bitches over.

Got the lights on a timer, from 830pm to 830am. Little bit of a layover, little bit of dark time, think it will be okay.

I’ll probably the same week start another round, just to keep everyone on their toes 🤣 Got some
new strains and still waiting on some zamnesia replacements. Shit, maybe I’ll throw some photo periods under the light for fun.

Day 15!

I DID IT. LST, (maybe medium stress lmao I got big hands), done.

Tried to be as tender as possible. Managed to bend, not kink the stems. Wild how fast these plants react. I bent the strawberry last night, today I decided it looked kinda off so I pulled the tie and redid it, it had already bent and oriented upwards.

Mixed 2 gallons of water with two tablespoons of gaia green 4-4-4 and one tablespoon of great white. Is this good? I don’t know. If you’re not over feeding you’re not trying right?

Anyways, mixed the two gallons, watered everyone but didn’t even finish half. we will see.
