I am debating this myself, but have never done it. I would be worried it would dry too fast and I would have hay smelling buds. Do you just cut the big colas into quarters or how do you do it?
Hard to know what you’re thinking in terms of “big” and cutting down. I’ll cut mine down to around the size of bud pictured. That way I’m able to tease apart the bud and inspect everything inside (especially up against the stem) at harvest. Most of the time the cola isn’t just a single branch, but multiple branches and you can make your cuts along the main stem, but still leave a decent thickness in the branch.

Obviously with buds with decent spacing (like one below) you could easily cut it down more, but as you’ve mentioned you don’t want it drying out too fast and want to leave part of the branch to retain moisture.

And of course it really depends on your drying temps/humidity. If it’s hot you’ll want to leave larger sections. But if it’s cool or moisture it’s a big mistake to try and keep large vanity colas or hang whole plants/branches.

Perhaps you could try different methods to see what works best for you with your humidity and temperature. Last year I left some small stuff on the plants to ripen a bit more then placed them in the basket they tasted fine and wifey said they tasted great so the only change in growing this year I’m organic with only one spray when I took them outside in June all my plants were grown in old horse manure and fed them well water so they are flushed in my opinion. Only one auto left she’s still pumping out White pistils so weird cuz the other 20 I harvested were done when I chopped them down. Do what you feel is right for your RH and temps and good luck with your grow Peace bro!!!

Morning Farmers, I just got done feeding the plants there bloom food and some unsulferated molasses. Did about a teaspoon per gallon about 1/2 of what i give them for now. Just wanted to boost the soil and keep feeding it so it will hold up these hungry flowering gals. They are small in comparison to the other outdoor grows on here but they are strong. One thing i don't worry about is the wind knocking them over. They are going into there 3rd wk of flowering. No signs of catipillars nor any damaging bugs......yet!

Got me about 5 large cantaloupes this ones the nearest to ripening starting to change to orangesh/yellow skin. I want the umbilical cord to dry more LOL 😜 Those are potatoe flowers it's the second bloom in there bed so i'll be digging those up later when the plants yellow an die. I'm off to my sister's down south abit, were all going to a winery music festival near the Applegate area.
Have a safe weekend all✌️
Ohhhh so large cantaloupes aren't a euphemism for something....I almost thought I hit the wrong click again on the ole mouse (not a euphemism either).

I'll have to ask later what is the difference in unsulfurated vs sulfated molasses another time. I do add molasses into my rabbit manure tea, so I'm quite curious.

Safe travels!

Good morning all -
I’m looking for information about the “fast strains” because I am growing a couple of Honeyface plants by Twenty20.
They have grown along side the other photos and I couldn’t tell any difference, then this week one of the 2 just accelerated into flower in a rapid fashion not typical of photo plants & the other one seems to be following along.

Pics below are of Honeyface and 1 shot of Super Chocolate that could be a very early photo which was the earliest one into bloom but is outpaced by the fast strain at this point…

Have any of you experienced growers got comparative info to share on these fast strains?
Thank you

All of mine are photo., But about a week ago after this heat wave stopped they really accelerated in growth.

Heya Chucky how are things with you? Still tending to your beautiful gals I see. You feeling good buddy?
Same old, same old! Watering twice a day! Most have started throwing pistols! Except for the Sinaloa! Everything pretty much right on time! I think all you have is photos left! So I’m doing the same as you! Got two more months to kill! Time for a nap! Take it easy, brother! I’ll post some pictures at home tomorrow morning!😍🍻

I used one of those last year for the first time. I didn't really have a choice because I don't have room to hang a bunch of trees like these in my place.

The quality didn't suffer at all but some of the buds didn't have the nice shape you get from hanging. They can get a little misshapened. I had so much bud that I had to turn them often while drying to prevent any moisture pockets and potential mold. But I had it overloaded. I didn't really have a choice. Everything turned out just fine.

In general, I've never had ideal conditions for drying and it's never been a big problem. The only issue I've noticed from drying too fast is that it can smoke a little harsh.

I think people stress too much over minutiae when it comes to growing weed.
Beautiful plants buddy!

Awesome outdoor grows guys. I've only ever grown one outdoor plant to harvest stage and due to its positioning and other circumstances (dipshit me) it was only a two footer, hit hard, but a two footer, well done for all growing under the sun.
This isn't a plant.....its a shrub.🤣

Yeah just 1 auto left she’s still growing White pistils then the rest are photos and my weather forecast is looking pretty good IM getting pretty excited my man

Everybody is showing worms and bugs....I have normal seen any on my plants...
U went and did it now...u jinxed yourself by saying something.🤣

I've had a few bugs here n there, no infestations to speak of. Sprayed for spider mites and leafhoppers in early veg., but nothing of much, since. That's the second worm I've found in the last 4 days. And I look pretty thorough, each time I find one. Both were on the leaves, nothing but sticky fingers, checking buds thankfully.

Winds have been blowing out of the direction of the wild jungle of undergrowth and trees next to me, so could be coming from that.

Found nothing on my other plant next to it, either. Thank God.!

I released a hundred lady bugs at preflower on my shrub (large Blue Dream). I released the other hundred on my other plants....I released the spider mites eating mites on my indoor plants.
When i made the comment....I knocked on wood....but im not superstitious.🤣😂
