From what I understand, this method will taste much better than a shake and wait or whatever using alcohol, as it preserves
terpenes and taste or whatnot. I've only been learning about this for a few days tho, so I could be way off.
Went off topic but for OPs sake, made a 32 min. green dragon tincture using an ultrasonic cleaner. Used a buchner funnel to separate and will evap most of the alchohol off. Cant speak for anything but color, but damn its so dark!
Have you heard of the green/golden dragon tinctures that people in the community have been making for a long time?
This should produce a similar product, in a fraction of the time. But curious what compounds are lost in the sonication process if any. I dont have access to mass spec for this purpose what a shame.
I was under the impression that less compounds are lost doing this than using alcohol or heat for extract as it doesn't actually destroy the compounds? As I already mentioned, I'm new to this.
I'm currently bidding on a good Sonicator. What I read about ultrasonic baths is that it does work, just not nearly as well. I was reading specifically on using glycerine and flour. You'd put that in a jar, then fill the ultrasonic bath with water and some ice and put the jar of fun in it and ultrasonic it (Is that a verb? Claiming it if not) for a little bit. I guess it's better than other ways, but inferior to sonicator.
What you're doing is exactly what I'm trying to figure out. This was a very weird grow season and all of my plants were consistently 2 months behind. I pretty much gave up and thought I'd have to rely on last years (which was bountiful, to say the least). Somehow, life found a way, and my plants just exploded. And then, they decided to crank up the quality. I'm excited about it all. But I digress. I've decided I'd rather a sonicator because I can possibly get one at auction for very cheap (they also often have mass specs that end up going for nothing sometimes because nobody wants them, depending on where you live). I'm hoping that just doing the bits in the sonicator is enough, and don't have to do additional steps. Found some article and a guy was using a rotovap, hoping I don't have to buy one of those too!
I'm thinking about emulsifications, like infused honey, using said glycerine. Then maybe some topicals if it works out like I'd hoped. You also mentioned not storing well, I had read something about how a sonicator is used to make things store longer and meet health codes for retail. I don't remember what they said, I'll have to see if I can find it, but that's what got me thinking about the sonicator route.
Plus, I plan on getting wild and crazy with it in the kitchen. Chicks dig that.
If I get my sonicator, I'll be messaging you for help certainly!
