Shady Update…

i dont have hella room either what i like to do is take a given male that i like the traits of then sprinkle three or so females that i like the pheno from if they are seed or just one female if from clone then i harvest those seeds start maybe 100 - 200 on 12 12 from seed kill all males then flower the remaining females a bit longer till they really start showing characteristics kill off all but a few of the fems i really like keep as many of those i have space for as mothers when im ready to breen again i use one of those clones for the female works pretty good at saving space and getting good/desired genetics
Thx for the breakdown mike! :rock I will def keep this in mind... I'd just be happy to setup a 1000W with an Under Current... :itwasntme

pretty crazy ratio with the ROG. i had 2/3 females so i guess the Raskal Og has a great female ratio or we got lucky with those hahaha. they are fire btw. te=hey stink like a mofo.
Yeah brah! I hope to find killer phenos this Round... Hmmm, I guess I'm gonna need a new carbon scrubber when I upgrade the room. :evilgrin

Congratulations, the next one will be at 100,000!

I have read a few posts here by people who certainly enjoy balls in their face, just to be clear. Then I have read a few posts here by people who could use a set in their face... Just my 2 cents...
Thx bud! I'm just trying to put on a good show for everyone... :character0113:

Shady Update…

It’s been a day in the bathroom downstairs for the two male plants I kept for pollen. LMAO, I’ve only got one bathroom left now. Chem Valley Kush #3 is on the left and Sensi Skunk #2 is on the right. The SS is much shorter than the CVK…

Sweet bud shots shady. All the ladies are looking mighty healthy.

A Casey Jones x CVK or Sensi Skunk would be so interesting, I don't know if you'd play with that. Regardless I am down for Shady's Breeding show with the those two studs.

Yo shady that Chemdog's Sister looks ridiculous! getting that technique down ay!:character0050:

Thx bud! Just to clarify again... I don't dilute after the fact. That's already done by pretending there's less water than what's in the res...

Ah ya i phrased my answer with the wrong words. I totally understand what you mean though.

Hmmm... Now those would be very interesting crosses although I'm leaning towards the Casey Jones x Sensi Skunk as my Sensi Skunk #2 is short statured and hopefully that would help slow down the CJ's explosive stretch... :thinking

Round 5 is insane! killing it shady! K+ thanks for ya help bro
Thx Mud Man! No worries and I look forward to your journal soon... :cool

A Shady Case Study: Localized Vapor Pressure Deficit (L-VPD)… :nerd

There are several factors to a successful garden… IMVHO, First is great genetics, then comes a consistent and perfect atmosphere, and with those things pH, PPM/EC, nutrient profiles, different mediums, pot size in relation to plant size, and watering/feeding intervals are all critically important variables to be adjusted based on plant response and strain requirements. Of course research, experiments, and experience usually help me to work smarter and not harder…

This is simply a brief study on VPD. I’ve mentioned Vapor Pressure Deficit before in my 3rd Round journal and provided the following link to others:And I’ve quoted the following paragraphs to summarize the concept:
If humidity is too low (i.e. high VPD), the stomata on the leaves tend to close in order to limit transpiration and prevent wilting. This closing of the stomata will also limit the rate of CO2 uptake and hence limit photosynthesis and consequently plant growth. Low humidity also reduces turgidity (water pressure within the plant cells) and this in turn also restricts growth. Blossom end rot in tomatoes and capsicum can also be attributed to low humidity (high VPD).

Conversely, if humidity is too high (i.e. low VPD) the stomata will fully open but even so the plants will be unable to evaporate enough water to carry minerals into the plant and so again, growth will be impeded and mineral deficiencies (particularly calcium) may occur. In addition, the plants may exhibit soft growth, fungal problems and mineral deficiency symptoms.
For a while now, I’ve been logging photos and details of a phenomenon I’ve noticed, which appears to be a localized vapor pressure deficit, which I will dub L-VPD. Simply stated as wind speed increases across a leaf’s surface, the localized humidity drops since warm air can hold more water vapor than cool air… So if you’re garden’s ambient environment is dialed-in, you can still encounter localized VPD problems. In my situation these problems occur within the immediate vicinity of my fans. So, while my garden is dialed-in, I still have a few leaves that appear to be showing deficiencies, but are simply damaged by high L-VPD.

Alright enough talk, let’s look at some photos. I’ll start with a lower canopy leaf, of a Master x Bubba, in the middle of the tray. This looks healthy…
http://i858.invalid.com/albums/ab146/ShadyRoundFive/Shady%20Round%205/MxB-1.jpg

In stark contrast are the lower canopy leaves, of a Master x Bubba, directly adjacent to the fan…
http://i858.invalid.com/albums/ab146/ShadyRoundFive/Shady%20Round%205/MxBvpd1.jpg

Now a look at the upper canopy of that same MxB will show that she’s dialed-in…
http://i858.invalid.com/albums/ab146/ShadyRoundFive/Shady%20Round%205/MxBvpd0.jpg

Sometimes I wish there was a lower fan setting. Oh well, the rest of Round 5 is on point…

Here’s some baby bud porn as well. Chem Valley Kush #4 with some fat leaves…

Last, but certainly not least is the shady experiment with pollen. I’d appreciate any advice on proper collection and storage methods. I’m assuming I just keep going until it drops… :wondering

Here’s Sensi Skunk #2…

:icon_dizzy: P.S. I’ve been hand watering all the hydro plants in Round 5 by hand and hope to finalize my automated setup early next week… Until then, hydroton plants get fed 3x a day, and the coco pots are typically once per day based on their weight and moisture loss… Every plant is getting an individual assessment before additional dosing.

Nice pics on the VPD bro, I'm 100% in agreeance on the full VPD theory etc... Since I got my rh up, the improvement is evident. I also believe I was having some VPD issues on plants closest to my mag ballasts since I have to keep them in room. This area cause a temp rise mid plant... and what do ya know, plants all had mid plant micro issues. So new cords and extensions just relocated ballasts outta the way... Anyways- right on bro, keep preaching it, hopefully some folks will listen!

Shady - THCEXPO 2010 LOS ANGELES

Shady, this is a thread I created with the pictures I took from the LA THC EXPO today:

There is quite a bit of information from Humbolt and Advanced Nutrients if you are seeking that. Otherwise, this is a relatively local event. I am surprised GH didn't make it there... Hopefully I can setup some booth's next year for so our favorites look as good as we do growing their gear!

Shady Pollen Collection and Bloom Feedings…

You're one busy mofo watering 3x a day, good thing you're home alot. Do you go anywhere?! :tongue0011:
I'm home all day, every day... :dull Unless I'm at a job interview or the hydro shop.

3 times a day is doable i check my clones about three times a day
Yeah it isn't that bad for only a few plants, but it's still a bitch when you sleep past your alarm... :sleepy Honestly, one of the reasons I'm hand watering, besides being low on ends, is this will force me to get up early each day. I've been sleeping in for a year, like a bum... every day is like a Saturday when you're unemployed.

Shady u aint a lazy mofo bro! trully u inspire me man...Good luck with that automated setup!!
Thx TCM!!! That really means a lot to me... If I can inspire just a few, then I feel like I've accomplished something... :happy

Shady you starting some breeding projects bro? If so let me know what you have in store man.
Nah, I really don't have the desire, time, money, space, etc. to run hundreds of plants at the moment... I'll just do some selective pollen chucking.

Sup SkyHi!!! I'm very happy with my Chem's Sis/D Bx1... She's gonna be one of my favs for a long time. I can actually see the similar structure of the Chemdog D in her although I've only smoked Chemdog D once... :mmm

shady your a smart muthafucka mane! good shit! let me know when that cvk #4 pollen drops ;)
I'm dropping some knowledge, while my CVK#3's pollen is dropping like it's hot... :icon_spin:

i loe tat Chemdog's Sister bro looking stellar..
Thx Rob1... She's a beauty! :character0103:

Shady Pollen Collection and Bloom Feedings…

On Saturday night, I transplanted the shortest three female seedlings from their small square pots to the round mesh bottom ones. Then I sprayed all the plants in veg and bloom with BioNeem. The following morning everything looks good. Here’s a shot of Round 5 Bloom with the smaller plants moved to the back shelf to get some light. I’ve used plastic footstools under the DUD #3 and both OG Kush in coco, to level out the upper canopy…
http://i858.invalid.com/albums/ab146/ShadyRoundFive/Shady%20Round%205/Round5Bloom.jpg

Sunday morning was interesting; CVK #3 was about to blow his first load; good thing I’m not using any fans in the bathroom downstairs. At lights out I bagged some pollen…
http://i858.invalid.com/albums/ab146/ShadyRoundFive/Shady%20Round%205/CVK3Pollen.jpg

I also mixed the Round 5 Bloom feedings for the next couple of days. Sunday the seedlings in hydroton were watered with the following mix:

Shady Bloom Feedings…
Summary of Sunday’s Hydro Res Change... 4/25/10
The following amounts are as follows in ml/gal and based upon a 2 gal res (filled w/3 gal of R/O):
Drain to Waste - CM:5/Grow:0/Micro:6/Bloom:8/FB:10/Hydroplex:1 = 578 PPM, 5.80 pH *Start of Wk #2

This morning the coco pots and hydroton seedlings were watered with the following mix:

Shady Bloom Feedings…
Summary of Monday’s Hydro Res Change... 4/26/10
The following amounts are as follows in ml/gal and based upon a 3 gal res (filled w/5 gal of R/O):
Drain to Waste - CM:6/Grow:0/Micro:6/Bloom:9/FB:0/Hydroplex:2 = 692 PPM, 5.76 pH

And on Tuesday I plan on watering with the following mix depending on how the plants look:

Shady Bloom Feedings…
Summary of Tuesday’s Hydro Res Change... 4/27/10
The following amounts are as follows in ml/gal and based upon a 3 gal res (filled w/5 gal of R/O):
Drain to Waste - CM:6/Grow:0/Micro:6/Bloom:9/FB:0/Hydroplex:3 = 744 PPM, 5.77 pH

Just a quick peek into the temp mother tent, where I’ll need to repot these girls soon…
http://i858.invalid.com/albums/ab146/ShadyRoundFive/Shady%20Round%205/MothersVeg.jpg

And the Shady Veg Station is due for some repotting on the bottom shelf as well…
