Hey there everyone and cheers from Tejas! I have a couple simple questions and I apologize if its a repost; I searched and searched but could not find a definite answer.

What are the original OG strains?

Does anyone know what made them (original OG) so "powerful" and can the effects be mimicked in a pure sativa?

Kush: What qualifies a strain to be a "kush" strain? I thought it was pure indica's but I am seeing ind/sat hybrids and would love some clarification.

Thank you in advance,

Lunchables:D

The "Hindu Kush" is a mountain range that actually resides in Afghanistan and Pakistan--supposedly Kush strains are the progeny of a landrace strain found somewhere along this mountain range.

Generally you're going to hear a strain referred to as Kush whenever it exhibits Kush aroma (which is very distinctive) as well as Kush bud structure (for the more advanced eye). Ii'm not sure if this is limited entirely to strains which come from the "original" kush strain or a variant of it--I'm not sure we can be certain that the aroma profile (which is where the moniker usually comes from in my experience) is exclusive to "true" kush strains.

Irregardless, I fucking love that god damn taste/smell--whatever the hell it is.

As for the OG, I'm ignorant.

everyone has diff views on OG's. and everyone likes to think their view is the right one..

Real deal OG's IMHO: San fernando Valley and Tahoe.
And there are fucking amazing reps of OG's, whether they are just diff phenos or crosses or what, still good reps of OG:
Fire
Ghost
True
Larry

I do not consider OG to be a Kush, and kinda urks me when people say OG Kush. OG is more sativa to me, but has a more small yielding golf ball structure that could be expected from a kush. goes 60-75 days, thats not an indica in my book.

IMO real reps of "Kush":
Master
Bubba
LVPK
Pure
lots of afghan anythings

Hindu Kush mountains =Kush

Kush to gangsters/kids in the burbs = anything frosty (think "chronic" in the 90's)

pick your side LOL

for real. my thought on chem is always.... well.... haha

if chemdog had the beans in a bag, that herb was gettin grown somewhere.... whether is was a mistaken cross, s1 hermie whatever it may have been, those parents are out there in a grow room..... somewhere.....

I'd disagree with this.

I grew up with gangsters in the burbs (south Chicago)--and they call Kush, Kush. When it's the right flavor/aroma, it's kush.

The colloquialism for anything frosty at random is "dro"--but over the last about 10 years or so the scene has wised up on what the real deal is. I think that as places like Cali and Colorado got big into MMJ, the information about strains, even in non-legal places, grew 100 fold. 10 years ago EVERYTHING was dro, these days you can get out there and find strains that ARE what they actually are, rather than a name attached to sell the bag off more easily (as it used to be).

ah but thats kind of splittin hairs about regions.
IE
northern CA - Hella
southern CA - "grip" of something
shit like that.

NC was all "fire" and all that, but just as "dro" short for "hydro" which is usually isnt, its just like Kush..... just splittin the hairs my brotha!
Hydro
Skunk
Chronic
Piff
Diesel
Kush
OG
all this shit, ive heard random commercial shit be called that as "dank" instead of the actual strain.

I guess what I'm saying is that, at least in my hometown, everything was dro forever, and then alluva sudden around 7-8 years ago shit started changing such that:

Skunk is skunk.

Kush is Kush.

Blue Cheese is Blue Cheese.

etc.

People went from being like, it's all dro, to actually getting the strains correct (at least generally speaking as in what "type" of strain).

Worth mentioning that this is an extremely ghetto area and everything is essentially ebonics--so even in that area they are getting it correct these days. So far as I can tell it's about the same in my entire state (I've lived all over).

Ultimately the question is still: "You got dro?"

But the reply is more like: "Yeah I got some kush."

and then you get there, and its Kush.

Trust me, it was as surprising to me as it was to you (things changed during a period of time that I was away from my hometown so I didn't get to see the change come gradually--I just came back one day and everyone was a connoisseur.

Thank you for the timely responses. So I was wrong on my original thoughts thinking OG's were indicas. This makes me very happy, as indicas knock me out...hard.

Not to split hairs with you but you kinda said something off.... Og is not kush because its 60-75 day flowering? Sorry but the bubba, pure and the lvpk all run that length if you want the proper ass kicking high they can offer. I havnt run the other but any 'kush' seems to run that long to get the top buzz from the plant. I thought it was said that Og Kush was Chemdog x (lemon thai x Old world paki kush). witch would lead to the variations of kush, lemon, fuel smells in each of the Og's and the fact some are more sativa then others?

there is so much here i could argue, but being the internet... the last few days ive realized im kinda over debating with people about bs.... LOL. og is og. if its indica its indica, if its sativa its sativa,

who the fuck cares. LOL

This is really depended on if your in a medical state or not IMHO... i like to think i have a pretty good knowledge on MJ , grower , ton's of reading , all the good info from you peeps , and a passion for the plant, and being it is a non -medical state there are times when I need to visit the gangsters if a harvest is not ready or can't flower (was moving) and I have yet to come across any gangster who knows what they are selling , its always Kush , I got the good kush ....lol and I have to bite my tongue and hold back from saying kid you have no idea what you are selling. ex, last time i heard i got the kush it was actually a diesel strain imo......"what's a chemistry nerd doing living in the ghetto" lol.....jk

My question is , the person who sold the herb to chemdog, - I believe it was Joe Brand or something like wonderkid or something is obviously known as chem gave him back 4 seeds 10years later or something like that , its posted here and numerous places but to lazy to look, He is obviously known ? has he ever spoken on where he aquired the bud for Chem dawg ? I mean he had to get it somewhere or grown it himself , has there ever been any clarification on this..... probal invented by some farmer just crossing strains back in the day ? thoughts

Did you realize that the "Ghost" cut (and probably most of the other named cuts you cited) was a selected pheno that came from Organkid's S-1 offering called "Oger's KUSH" ?????

I heard "Oger's" long before the "OG" tag came about (shortened from "Oger's", IMO, nothing more. No gangstas..no ocean...no shit)

And yer ALL wrong. "Kush"......also known as "Cash"...comes from the mountains in So. Californicastan! I thought everyone knew that!

We should do a poll of breeders and get everyone's take on the true source 1) over grown 2) ocean grown 3) original gangster 4) Oger's - I am thinking Sky High is correct , but am curious to see what other say , baba , Alien's and the rest of the people who have been in this field or around it a long time thinking would be. Is Chemdog still active in breeding or the marijuana field is another question I have also.....
