Is that considering the space taken( a 10'x10' room) w/ intake and exhaust? and also considering the factor of the temp set at 72 degrees Fareinheit?

It seems like alot of BTU's for just one 1000 watt HPS if there's an intake and exhaust system hooked up to an environmental controller. I'm not questioning your knowledge, but it just seems like a lot of BTU's.

I would discharge into attic and carbon scrub your attic. Or better yet get a two hose portable a/c

I want to take the ducting off of my lights. I have 9K in a 11x16 room. It is 8.5' high on one side and 6.5' on the other. We just ordered a 36,000 btu mini-split. Do you think that will be able to keep my room around 80-85 degrees?

I use 6000 btus per 1 kw of unvented lights. I know this is high but I want your room to be cool at all times. My guess is that you are in NorCal so your outside temps are cooler than mine in SoCal. It should work but no promises because I don't know about your room construction materials and insulation. I know my numbers work for 99 percent of the rooms I have worked in. What size unit were you using when the lights were vented? And how well did it maintain temps?

It stays around 86 during the summer with a 13,000 btu portable and 81 this time of year.

Wow that is great for 9k vented to stay cool with a 13k portable. The bottom line is you need a minimum of 3410 btus per hr per 1 kw unvented. That only accounts for the lights. You have around that with 3 tons. Most likely your 3 ton mini is rated around 33,000 btus per hr not 36,000. It will most likely work for most of the time. I would save some ducting and fans in case I need to vent some lights for the summer. Best of luck
