About to watch "The Drop", its bsed off a novel by Dennis Lahan i believe thats how you spell his last name, he also wrote "Gone Baby Gone" "Shutter Island" "Mystic River" and a bunch of other great boooks. I think i may start a book reading thread, may not get any action but id like to think some of us on here read occasionaly, and appreciate a good book.

Anyway i have high hopes i enjoy all the movies that have been adapted to film from his stories, they also take place in Boston often, which is where i grew up around so they have a certain quality that i find nice. Its called "The Drop" Check it out

Alright! @LittleDabbie @happy b -- FINALLY got to watch some UK Shameless.

It is exactly, precisely, and damn near indubitably exactly like the US version. Except everyone's white. And it's not as polished as the US production. Cuz, Hollywood.

I mean down to the WORD, exactly like the US version. With the occasional cultural reference shifted here and there.

So, they're both just as good, except I like the US version better since it's more colorful an' all.

We played Scrabble last night, and my husband won handily as usual. With pretty much nothin' but fucking 3-letter words, too. HTF does he do that, anyway?

Haha good one @Seamaiden .the us version is more.....well ,American.lol.i dont mean in the dialouge and stuff i mean how its done.the way the uk shameless is done is typical of uk tv programming.(its like they use shitty cameras.)i dont think i gave the us version a fair chance.i think im just more used to the characters in the original.

Pretty much like how I am at this point. My relationship with them has gotten personal, so seeing that Veronica is not some hot, stacked GORGEOUS African queen, but is instead a blonde, short-haired white gal just like everyone else changes my perspective.

Hearing the exact same dialog (yes, I used subtitles to be sure I didn't miss a thing!) got me a bit irritated. The US version is basically ripped entirely from the UK version. I'm assuming everyone's cool with that.

Frank the Plank. Gotta love it!

I will say this much. Watching both versions got me to thinking about culture and history, quite a bit, and how shit that's stuck on someone's shoe in one place can end up being dragged ALL the way over to the other place.

Paul Abbott, whose semi-autobiographical telescript became the pilot episode for the original UK version, is credited as an executive producer on the U.S. version.

And the parent company who owns the UK version has worked with HBO ALOT!!! So they pretty much green lit the us version for a im sure % of the take each year.

That would make sense.they advertised the US version here a fair bit.

A few good movies I've watched lately are: LUCY, The Golden Tea Pot, Mud and last but not least and a real surprise is Pain & Gain..
Some favorites: Dracula, dead and loving it.... side splitting funny.
Sanctum..this movie will actually have you holding your breath all the way thru it.. based on actual events it shows the world of under water spelunking.. a must see.

I think they(peeps who did uk version) sold the rights to the us company.they sometimes show both us and uk versions on the same channel on the same night.
That had to have, because it's damn near to the WORD. So, mad fucking props to the UK folks who came up with the idea in the first place, because I LOVE IT. Raunchy sometimes doesn't begin to describe it.

So, what should I absolutely get queued up on the Netflix? I seriously love controlling the tv with my Tablet. Next time the grandkids come over I am SO fucking with them! You shoulda seen their faces when I told them how we ate Half-breed.

Sea maiden I think you should give TUDORS a go . iv just finished watching it . It's similar to GOT but without the dragons and white walkers and crazy stuff . There's a good few actors from GOT in this as well plus the guy that plays superman in "man of steel" I can't remember his name.
I think you would like it sea maiden . its got love, passion, sex, intrigue, betrayal, plots, murders, executions(and plenty of em).weddings, funerals, coronations and war . I highly recommend it . It's been out since 2007.
