I
I just don't wanna stunt her too much. She's an auto and is starting to flower. Won't that stunt her to bad. Thanks for the help. I kite I ask a lot of questions, not questioning your knowledge, just trying to under stand
Never messed with an auto, but I strip mine down to the nubs a week before flower and every other week after that. There are differing opinions on taking fan leafs, but I have seen an increase in yields by keeping them naked all throughout. My tops are just as heavy, if not heavier, than when I left the fans alone. I see less bugs, mildew, and bud rot as well.
Looking at the picture I see a lot of dying fans that are not contributing to the plant, just the opposite. I also see a lot of branches beneath the canopy that appear to be shaded, removing those will increase the size and density of the top colas.
The only stunting I have experienced from taking fans is the upward growth, it slows down considerably, which is a good thing as it keeps your canopy level and allows light to penetrate to some of the middle/lower bud sites.
I'm going for a cloning session tonight. I will take some pics of a mom that has been topped and defoliated. I will show you how thick she is now and what she looks like naked. The trick is to NOT remove the nodes which will become buds and join the canopy. Any nodes or branches that will be shaded should be removed; the earlier you do this the better. Start by working on the inside of he plant around the main stalk; that shit will die, become larf, and rob the buds that are getting light of energy.
