Yeah, why not? The ground would insulate the bucket. Harbor Freight sells a cheap hand pump, I have a couple of small water pumps or there's a faucet pump (used to fill/drain water beds) I could hook to a hose bib.

In the so cal heat I have to water daily so just the savings on water would make it worth while and I could run to the mountains for a week without worries.

The more I think about it the more I like the idea. I'm going to run a few buckets with spinach this winter and see how it goes.
I would do something like this, I'm sure you could design something much better than this unit, I put it just as an example I've never tried nft, or whatever they call this now?

I've thought about building one but limited on what can be grown in them. DWC (deep water culture) seems to be the way to go. A bucket, basket, air stone, nute, water, light and a seedling.

I've got 3 buckets /w lids and spinach seedlings. I'll set it up by this weekend.

Not sure this is actually a question, maybe more of a comment on the new mix I'm using?

I'm guessing it's the worm castings but I am having an explosion of roots like never before I mean to the point where I've had to add extra soil on the top more than once already because thick white spaghetti roots are growing out of it! Not exactly growing out of it but every time I water I have to re-cover them!

I've only had to add soil a handful of times in the four years I've been growing in soil, but now I've got roots a popping everywhere!? This is unprecedented growth!

I'm guessing it's the worm castings doing what they're supposed to do, maybe some of it is the compost but something good's going on in my root zone!? 😎👌

Regarding Master Blend:

Noticing a minor magnesium deficiency in a large-ish Indian bubble gum plant about halfway through flower

Been feeding plain water at 100 PPM and newts at 300 and 500 PPM approximately every other watering, or slightly more plain waterings than newts (I have everything written down but I'll spare you the tedious chart picture)

Sprayed it with Cal Mag yesterday & forgot to spray this morning but I'll get it at lights on tonight, should stop it

what I'm thinking brought mag issue on is large flowering Plant and mininal nutrients, not an imbalance, so I haven't changed the recommended Master Blend ratio

I've upped the strength to 700 PPM and fed twice in a row, will spray tonight and continue heavier feedings and reassess in a couple of days
The run off a couple of feedings of go was 1000 PPM at 6.4 so it's not really low but it apparently needs a bit more

Have an idea for a ratio once a plant gets past 3 to 4 weeks in bloom for a different ratio I may try instead of 2.4 / 1.2 / 2.4

I'll keep the Master Blend at 2.4ml/gal. But up the Epsom salts to 1.4 and cut the Cal Nit to 2.2

Not a huge change: any thoughts?

A comment on this 4 hour farce called 'Haunted Salem' on the Travel Channel that aired last night: My friends and Neighbours in and around the Salem/ Danversport area don't appreciate this type of exploitation.

When I move the beach house to Salem for Halloween I was going to post a couple of gothic pictures, a respectful article or two regarding the history of Salem including the witch trials & Halloween songs, and that was going to be it, and I considered even this small thing very well before I did it.

In this same respectful manner, I was going to move the beach house to Plymouth for Thanksgiving next month to continue sharing our beautiful coast and rich New England heritage.

Tho you won't likely hear about it unless someone finds some way to exploit it in some financial manner, more than a few of these so-called "elite professionals in their field" are taking more home with them from their night in Salem than a paycheck. Perhaps deserved.

And a final comment: Anyone who thinks the vast majority of these schlubs on TV are real professionals in this field, perhaps you should visit Salem and meet real professionals in this field. Anyone who spent 4 hours of their life watching this toilet flush of a TV show may want to reconsider their life choices. I have no further comment on this.

my niece lives not too far from there.I did work on the courthouse there too
I also have ties to Salem which is the reason for my rant regarding that sensationalized piece of crap TV special I mentioned above; consider the daily lives of everyday residents of Salem & Beverly from this point on, a half hour drive home from work is doubled, and in a week it will be more than tripled everyday, as is trying to do anything in the city from this point going forward, through Halloween.

A better show is on Travel Channel called 'witches of Salem' it's only on episode 2 but so far it's authentic to what I've been told by some prominent Salem witches regarding the witch trials.

It's a common belief in & around the Salem wiccan community that the witch hunts started as ergot poisoning, was turned into some sort of a sham perpetrated by the "afflicted" young girls, and eventually led to a political land grab.

This little Remo chemo is begging to be tied down! I really would like to try the manifold thing, I've read Aurora' tutorial a few times but it just seems like so much extra work, & for how much of an increase? Eh.. I'll half-ass it with sticks as usual LOL
