When I saw who posted I was almost afraid to open it! Thought I was going to get roasted! Lol! And Zab, there is no such thing as a dumb idea until it blows up in your face! Kind of like marriage! Hell, I’m trying to figure out how to work this old 0° freezer into the mix for maybe cleaning the sift! It gets mighty hot around here

And don’t get me wrong! You can get damn good sift out of the, 60, 90, 110, 200 rigs! That’s what I started with, and just added a few screens when I got the dumb idea that I knew what I was doing! Going with that should cost you less than buying individual screens!
Hey thanks for that, makes sense. I do like the idea of buying something once, but then I have to put it to good use. It may be a thing I am totally into or maybe not, can't know. I won't be doing any of it for at least a couple of months so I am just reading a bit here and there.

I also got that email from the press club about the 420 sale, thanks.
I started writing this yesterday and forgot to post 😎
And thanks for this thread, will take a while to go through it all.😅

This would be where I get my next screens. I prefer people who worked with people who know wtf they’re talking about when talking dry sift and these guys worked with my mentor.

The difference is screens that are food grade since that is important. Some mesh will have adverse effects and cause toxic residues when using even alcohol as a cleaning solvent. Proper tension is important too. Also different mesh have different charges so it can be easier or harder to clean your material depending. Shape of holes in mesh is also a topic.

That said good screens are not cheap.

Yeah, those are nice! And I’ve only done this during the winter! I don’t think Summer is a good time to go with dry sifting. But I am a noob at this. From what I’ve seen, if you’re going to use static electricity as a cleaning method, warm, humid conditions, make it tough to generate a proper charge. Maybe ice water hash during the summer. But that involves spending a decent amount of money also. A lot of these guys don’t have pounds of material to play with. They want to do it on a pretty small scale, and a pretty small budget! So I don’t know. Every opinion helps there’s no doubt about that!

Everyone does their thing I’m just adding options. I am a small grower I literally only run a 5x5.

That lifetime remeshing sounds good to me but shopping charges are crazy af nowadays too so. At least they offer it though.

Humidity is going to be your biggest enemy when sifting. You need them heads really dry if your going to work them because working them applies pressure and rolling causes more heat. You can mitigate the heat with paint roller tek or the equivalent.

I’ve found fresher heads to be better with static but again you need those dry so you don’t burst them while working. It’s a delicate dance for sure.

I was just taking a quick look and it seems that you need lower than 40% humidity to generate a decent static charge! The lower the better. A lot of part of this country won’t see that during the summer. And I’ve also seen where 62° is the cut off for temperature. You’re right! It’s a delicate, balancing act! But once you’ve had a little success during the winter, and caught the bug, it’s hard to put it down! Lol! I’ll probably keep experimenting as a season progresses. I think I can get 60° with an AC and I live in an area where it gets bone dry in the summer. Might as well keep trying to learn, even if it’s the hard way! Lol! Maybe it’s time to dig out a wool sweater and start stroking it! Ha ha! I’ve even tried using those frozen cold packs to hold in my gloved hand to cool it down. Don’t know if it does any good, but it makes me feel better!😀

I’ve definitely sifted in hotter. One of the main things is learning to sift properly. When I first started I was taking like an hour plus to do what I can in 15 seconds now. Literally. If you learn to work material there is very little that can stop you.

Also dehumidifiers exist. Small tent set ups can help bring your humidity down faster and help keep stuff clean (I added a small hepa filter).

I take my sifting a bit more seriously then most but honestly we should all have some higher standards. I share so I want me, family, friends, and buyers to get the best.

Gave my hands a alcohol wash! Now I can operate my bic lighter with one hand again! Lol accumulating a lot of B and C grade that I would like to press into a brick! But don’t want to spend $400 to do it right! Thinking about getting a 2 x 4 pre-press mold and using a torch and a vice out in the barn. If you see this, any opinions are welcome!
Been curious, would the $400 refer to a rosin plate set or what would you consider the "decent way" ?
Been thinking about diy'ing one for quite a while and saved one of those Car Lifters for it but not knowing shit about welding and even owning one prevented me from continuing the road so far. Plus the potential danger of having a Hydraulic press that might snap due to poor welds.

I've often seen those Heating elemts being used in those Builds,
1712767132952

4 pcs went for about 15€ (from China) it translates to Heating cartridge plus something like the inkbird, Modell "ITC-106VH which goes about $35 then you would have the Heating part settled, i didnt figured out the benches back then but i think most just used aluminium blocks and drilled holes in them for the cartridges. Not familiar with the Block molds and if it would work there but figured i might throw it out there

Even a simple thing like this without heat, cost a few bucks! But you can buy the mold separately and probably use a vice. I don’t know I haven’t tried it. GNick55 uses something like it and cranks out some pretty nice bricks.

You can get the molds for about 30 bucks or so, and then figure out how to put pressure on them! I’m not into spending that kind of money! I’m pretty happy with just rolling balls! Lol! The old-school hash only. I’ve got bottle jacks up the ass. Just need to find an immovable object for them to press against! Where there’s a will, there’s a way!

Even more reason I should have listened to @cpurola and bought a welding rig a while back. Would have paid for itself by now.

Still way more sophisticated than my trie(s) :D
They were full on budget, regular jar put in the snow with socks stucked between the lid 😂 then folded together on parchement paper and hand pressed/ put into shoes but was also more than a decade ago. I kinda playing with the idea of dying again while goin through the thread but im not set on spending the money onto the sieves/bubble bags 😅

I’ve heard even the cheap wire welders from Harbor freight will get lightweight jobs done! I may be dumb, but not dumb enough to trust any weld I would make!😂
My thoughts excatly 😂 Soldering no prob but welding.... that just screams getting a metal bar kicked in my Face. But now that ive seen the Bolt and Nut version 👀 new hope arises

So after looking at the options and considering my budget, I’m still leaning toward starting with 2 decent quality screens.

I’d like to buy a kit with 4, but the only ones I can afford are probably poor quality.

I just checked out that Royal Extract Machines @dextr0 shared and I can afford to grab 2 of the 20x24 to get started.

What size screens would y’all recommend if you had to use only 2?
I’m thinking 124 and 76 microns (125 & 196 lpi)

I see now, the screens I’m looking at are on sale and come with a lifetime re meshing. I think I’m gonna do it yall, just gotta decide the 2 sizes

They also have this 3 pack for a better price option, but I’m not sure I like the screen sizes.

Do y’all think I should get the 3 pack, or pick 2 individual screens and choose different sizes.

Sorry to be such a pain appreciate all the help!
