Anyone tried flood and drain trees in hydroton?

Hi has anyone tried larger plants in F&D? It seems most F&D grows are SOG and I'm trying to figure out exactly why. I'm a DWC grower so I'm used to them being larger and if the growth rates are the same then I see why not...

Anyone tried using Armor Si (or any Silica)?

I would like to know how exactly they add Si to fertilizers without it precipitating out of solution in the bottle on the shelf. It's only soluble at pH 9+ in a staunch hydroxide mixture it seems... I've sprayed it as a foliar weekly and still got the worst PM ive literally ever seen in all my...

Lung room where to place dehumidifier

I find that if you have a decompressor dehuey you'd want it as high as possible, like near the roof where all the hottest air is. Else it doesn't keep the RH down sitting in the cooler air.

    L.E.D. Argument Thread For Dummies:)

Am saving 1000's of bux on LED in terms of power consumption per month, the tech payed for itslef inside a few months. Running 12 x Samsung strips on 600w drivers dimmed down to 60%. Nearly half the electricity bill @360w instead 600. Electricity is expensive these days and the cost of weed has...

Building a RDWC a few tips in hot-cold climate

From S Africa here, growing in cupboard in my garage. Am trying out a physical carrier between the shoots n roots. Works great for cupboard SOG grows. Keeps temps 3'C cooler at least. Havn't realy measured tho. It's just a piece of 3mm ABS plastic sheet from a signage supply company and doubles...

Has anyone tried a good ol uv bug zapper?

This cupboad design aims to passively cool hydroponic reservoirs and nearly double light output

Here is my cupboard design. I installed a physical barrier between the root zone and above ground parts because roots need a much cooler environment. I want to keep the top zone at 26C and the root zone at most 21C. ALSO here's the best part: because the barrier is WHITE it means I can use A...

    Loop manifolds for air line

I think you talking about creating a buffer system between a weak acid and a weak alkali, they used a lot in biology experiments. I have quite a bit of alkalinity in my water already you see, my pH is like 9. something. I have never had this problem before because I used ghe wich contains lots...

    Loop manifolds for air line

    Here's my ratios for veg mix: NH4 = 2.8ppm NO3 = 30.8 + 5.6 + 10.5 = 46.9 = 50totN (5.6%NH4) P = 15.5 + 1.55 = 17ppm K = 19.5 + 29.25 = 49ppm Ca = 40ppm Mg = 12 + 4.8 = 16ppm S = 16ppm Total: 188 ppm N—P—K = 3—1—3 K—Ca—Mg = 3—3—1 My flower mix: NH4 = 2.8 NO3 = 30.8 + 5.6 + 21 = 57.4 =...

    Loop manifolds for air line

Phosphoric acid works well and is cheap and widely availible, but I already added like 30ppm P from MKP and an extra 0.05 mili-molar units of phosphoric acid will bring it up to 34ppm actual P. So I don't want to go further into "the luxury range" as too much P causes problems. I have 60ppm of N...

    Loop manifolds for air line

My tap water is very clean, only like 50ppm. It's also very alkali so I use acids mainly to keep the pH in check. Do you guys know the NPK Ca Mg S ratios your're using? Because I make my own, setting the ppm targets for individual nutrients is important, and takes much trial and error.

    Loop manifolds for air line

I've actually noticed that my pH is struggling to stay below 6....sits at 7 after a few days. Have to add water and nutes 2x a week in this buckets lol, see why totes is more practical there. Gonna formulate sulfuric acid into my stock solutions. That should add some protons to the MKP buffer...

    Loop manifolds for air line

Nah they pool pump grommets, not uniseal. Also my smaller 1inch ones are a local irrigation co ones which work. Good thing my buckets are floppy under eminence pressure when pushing a pipe thru it. Tho as the plastic ages we'll see. Bulkheads I have had them snap and leak, they far more finicky...

    Loop manifolds for air line

I just got a 4 plant UC system set up (I only have one light so far). Man it was a pain getting those 50mm (2inch) grommets in even with lube. I also noticed my smaller veg undercurrent (much smaller system) had roots going into the connecting pipes, which were only like 1 inch. Got a 30l/hr...

    Loop manifolds for air line

That's exactly as how I see it, but I compare a ratio of manifold inlet area(s) to the sum of the outlet areas. A loop manifold means I can get away with thinner pipe as 2 pipes raises the volume. I know you get those short aquarium manifolds, but my garden is quite long vs wide, so my 5mm...

    Loop manifolds for air line

I've never had a problem with pH and air. It's nutrients without sufficient "pH buffer" that cause pH swings. Google how a chemical pH buffer system works, it's magic, it's like a chemical control system. Phosphoric acid and Carbonates work well to keep pH in a non-linear zone. "Surface...

    Loop manifolds for air line

2 plants per 3ft wide should be enough, seeing that I'm vegging not too long. Basically 4 plants per 600w HPS space although it's LED. Maybe for industrial scale larger totes makes sense, and also then I would have to veg and trim like crazy Airpumps do keep the O2 gradient higher than just...

    Loop manifolds for air line

They wont be too big, just enough to fill a 8 x 3 ft. Honestly they not 5gal, just realized, I think in metric, so I'm using 8 x 25 l bucket filled to about 20l I figure, about 3/4 way up, that 20l is a max possible value. My buckets are different to ones in the US I figure, because 7gal US =...
