Btw,so damned hot today...I worked the weed eater all day long with heat index of 103F.I swear I thought I was going to pass out at one point but I have an engagement this weekend and will be out of town.Hurricane coming and I don't want to come home to too much of a mess. ;)

Those are actually musk melons, not cantaloupes... americans just call musk melon cantaloupe....anyways great to see so many summer gardeners out there. And good to see chicken man still postin good threads. Take care

I remember now! That is how you know they are ripe. The rind will just give under finger pressure and they will have a delightful musky smell. They should also just come off the vines with very little effort. Most mellons need to ripen on the vine. They will not ripen if picked to early. They will rot.
