They work but I wouldnt call them that accurate, my ph was 5.6 but according to the drops it was yellow 6 ph. IDK i like digits, gives me piece of mind instead of guessing colours

if your in soiless yellow is just fine lol I go a lil orangey in early veg,5.3-5.5, late veg early flower yellow to golden 5.6 to 5.8,limey to slight green to finish 5.9 -6.2.

the drops wont lie your pen will lol.once you get used to the drops your good.Ive mixed a shiton of gallons 1 at a time checkin with a pen and drops.some ph variance is fine as long as its not too drastic.I bought good pens too with all the crap to keep them clean and calibrated ,they all go bad there is no forever electric meter its all a waste of money.drops are cheap

I belive you buddy. But there something about those digits tho that makes me feel good. Seeing that yellow colour telling me its abou 5.6-6.5 that gives me panic xd
But Yeah so much cheaper with drops I agree

Scientists use litmas paper for accuracy. Not electronics in this case.

What does it take to use the drops. A second or two more than a pen reading.

Love the drops! In soil I use the 6.0 to 7.4 range so it's much more accurate and easily read than the broad range. Last time I used my meter was for a slurry test months ago

Nah chatter is good.... opinions also. I prefer a meter 100% over drops. Its not hard to validate a meter against a known solution that will give high accuracy. The drops are just a bit to vague for my liking. I have made my own ph indicating solutions (color changing) using different KH values to dial in Co2 levels in water since you can measure the Co2 in water by the PH change if the KH is known. I made them so one will be green and the other yellow when the amount of dissolved co2 reached 30ppm, having 2 references make drop more accurate but I'm not doing that in a res. I am well aware how drops work.

@MIMedGrower I disagree on the litmus paper, its more for quick checks and is not all that accurate either often used in the field. Anything that's of scientific importance will use a meter that's calibrated to a known solution they are far more accurate.

same way here,my old ass eyes only see numbers and i feel i did something ,i have drops for emergency type settings and them damn colors always throw me off,i will have a ph pen telling me 6.5 and strip of paper green as hell saying 7,hahahhha now the drops that come with the color chart on bottle i do all right with but this damn paper strips hell no.
peace of mind for me is a pen,like i stated above i never no from day to day how and what coming out this well and pen sets shit straight

Cheaper is one thing but being able to actually harvest a quality crop at the end there's nothing to think about on that one and should be common sense but that went out the window just like mullets lol

I agree. I can tell a lot by small changes in ph and ppm. Also with other water test kits like nitrate and free ammonia.

Accuracy is important to me. I want to make sure I have about a 0.2 ph increase a day for swing. I can't do that with drops. It gives a nice gradual ph change for nutrient uptake. In soil this means nothing as the soils and microbes buffer pH. In hydro while I run live I don't have that luxury.

Now you can give the same tools to someone who may not know all the benefits you can see by seeing small ph changes and at what time of day they are occurring. All of this has relevance unless you don't know how to use the data.

It water I have to complicate it because I enjoy the challenge and learning.

Hell I built a CO2 reactors for my tanks and injected CO2 at 30ppm in which I made my own drop checkers and indicator solution for. All live plants and not easy ones to grow. That dwarf grass I paid $25 for a 2" round cup and grew it out.. took 6 months to carpet that tank. On top of that I build a waterfall out if styrofoam cement and painted it the sealed with drylok use PVC tubing and an airstone to recirculate the sand.

Also one of the few in North America to breed Amano shrimp. I won't go into that it's a task and a half. But can link for anyone interested my documented journal of it

Here is a vid of that tank I built and grew.. the tree is Christmas moss and drift wood. Needles to say I'd it's in water I need to complicate it. Oh I built this tank too.

I also agree with you. I like to run fine ranges with PH and not go above 6.0. I don't do 6.1. Why I also like to buy new ph calibration solution after it's open for more then a month. I like the hard numbers since I'm a control freak.

Aquaman that Hanna is their older version btw the new one is more rounded And it shows both pH and TDs on the same screen now instead of having to switch back which is like how mine is .
I've had my 9814 for a year and a half still using the probe it came with as I use it the correct way and it has never dried out nor will it ever I also use cleaning solution monthly for it and calibrate it every use if I want or every other is fine too... I paid 140 for mine and I got 2 extra probes for it which is that price Alone and solutions too it was one hell of a deal..So that one you sent was their 1st version of the 9814 as it's the growpro line as there is another company with that name and changed it to groline..I was supposed to get the growpro which it was on sale and they sent me the groline instead but nothing really changed they changed the end plug from like a mini xlr to a reg size xlr the mini screws in and the xlr does not which I like the mini better but o well still a great Meter and very pleased with it and glad I got it like over a bluelab.....
If your going to leave the probe in the water at all times then u could make ur own but they still are not cheap but when is quality which is accuracy and dependable cheap.....
How about getting a truncheon meter if not too

Thats the only way to look at it in my opinion. Keep the plants as perfect as possible and quality and yield are a given.

Weird.

I've owned 2 Hanna combo meters and they are the only reason I buy Bluelab now. Not sure if they got any better then 10 years ago but both of my meters died in less then a year. Bought a second one to give them a chance on a fluke. Nope.

edit: looks like they changed them. I don't even see the green ones I ran before.

Did you get the one from the link or did you look elsewhere for the newer version ...And if you got that grow pro line I hope you got a killer deal on it like I did for mine although they messed up and sent me the newer instead...So maybe look into it..Could save u some money....
So if you do happen to have a problem then contact the place you bought it from if not contact Hanna direct and they will walk you thru it and can send u a new one asap too...
I'f u have any issues calibrating it let me know as it's easy to do it wrong anyways and will be happy to help as always...
I bought Hanna cleaning solution, quick cal, storage Sol too...I use the cap in which I mark a line on how much to fill it to get a good reading for any solution etc and it makes waste alot less..
I got all my solutions but quick cal from a grow store here and paid like $6 for 1qt so very cheap I couldn't pass it up so I stocked up...
I also do not leave my meter in the water either I have before like over night but don't like too it will work longer If u don't as that water will crack the tubing in no time and cause a short or w e and destroy it so better left to take it out when your done.. I was going to get the bigger hanna meter that has the monitor like the blue lab guardian but I have at least 3 diff systems running and 4 at times if the 2x2 tent is up so it's nice being able to take it with u at anytime. ...But ya Aqua look into those things or ask the company u got it from I'f it's the same as shown in the pics as they could of just found that pic and put it on the website to get the older versions gone u know.....
