I am seeing a lot of stuff crossed with BX1 out in Cali. Dragon flame is using that one as well. Wonder if we could get some info from Dragon Flame about BX1.
Dirtbag I have heard about the female sterile stuff as well. I do not like it as well.Male breeding takes a keen eye for traits and a sound knowledge of actual genetic science. But with enough backcrossing and outbred diversity within the genome it is possible to identify males that carry the desirable traits.
The idea of breeders phasing out male breeding and only working with selfed pollen terrifies me honestly. Maybe because I don't know enough about it? Or maybe its because it smells like breeders are just looking for a way to more easily patent plants. The next thing will be patented feminized seeds that grow sterile buds that can't even be pollinated. Just wait..
I've been on a bit of a natural streak lately and this line of thinking doesn't sit well with me.
BX1 means back cross 1. It's been crossed with one of its parentsI am seeing a lot of stuff crossed with BX1 out in Cali. Dragon flame is using that one as well. Wonder if we could get some info from Dragon Flame about BX1.
Thank you for putting the lol on the end. I mean no offense. Genetics is fascinating stuff. And very complex.I'm gonna just leave that alone lol.
Yeah that does. I'm gonna start doing some reading today to see what I would be in for. I have a feeling after some education on the subject its not going to be an easy task.
Dirtbag can you help me understand this based on the BX1 info.BX1 just means its the first generation backcross. The breeder took and F1 male and back crossed it with the Parent mother to produce the BX1. Its a way of further stabilizing the line to produce traits similar to the mom..
SO COMPLEX lolThank you for putting the lol on the end. I mean no offense. Genetics is fascinating stuff. And very complex.
Oh hell no offense will ever be taken here. I grew up around rig and pipeline workers and worked in the railway for many yrs. There is not much that offends me but I do have enough disturbing humor saved up from them that may offend others so hence the... Bx1 means its been backcrossed with one of the parents to help reestablish dominance of desired traits onceDirtbag can you help me understand this based on the BX1 info.
What do you make of this label, Zkittlez Kush = Zkittlez Cake x TK BX1?

That breeder doesn't understand how to identify traits. So, I have a male with tremendous structure, this is why I selected it. The goal is to take some plants that are stretchier and try to introduce better structure. If I make seeds from the male, but never run the seeds from it, then yes, it is a useless male. But then again I heard a very reputable OR breeder argue that male pollen is "useless" because its just a "mystery" really as to the traits it carries. He claimed that crossing selfed fems is the future and I'm not qualified enough to agree or disagree with that, but it sounds like a good argument.
Does it have to me a male back crossed to the mom? Or can you have a female/dad combo? In this case the Triangle kush used for the cross is a BX1, meaning someone crossed a triangle kush male and female, then used a male F1 offspring to backcross with The TK mom to produce a TK BX1.
Then someone crossed that with Zkittlez cake to make Zkittles kush.

I better figure out how to understand the genetics better. My dumb ass thought BX was part of the strain. And Thank You @Dirtbag. But if I plant those seeds and find a phenotype with the same structure, but terpenes from the mother, I can then continue to work that line knowing what the male can bring. This is why breeding works best when you can run numbers but also when you know one of the plants really well. Typically, I've been more familiar with the female and I like working that way. Anything Jack with a strong lemon smell typically passes that trait on. It's about dominant and recessive traits and how they combine. Same process of how they reduced flowering times in a lot of plants.

Bx1 means its been backcrossed with one of the parents to help reestablish dominance of desired traits once
always appreciate the input dude! This breeding stuff is very extensive but insanely interesting. I love growing but almost more interested in cannabis breedingThat breeder doesn't understand how to identify traits. So, I have a male with tremendous structure, this is why I selected it. Probably because it's known that male cannabis DNA is heavily influenced by it's mothers side anywayWith cannabis breeding its always the male offspring backcrossed to the mom.
@Dirtbag, so back when say blue dream was born, they only back crossed stuff to the female to lock in the genetics? With cannabis breeding its always the male offspring backcrossed to the mom.
Thats a real thing. Breeder Steve is working in another country on that exact sort of plant. I believe it is a triploid that they have mapped some of the genetic markers for (they have $$$$$ to spend on R & D) and they have found it doesn't produce pistils, which makes it sterile and any outdoors growers dream, whether it be Cannabis or Hemp. The next thing will be patented feminized seeds that grow sterile buds that can't even be pollinated. Just wait..
