LONG & PERSONAL POST WARNING - I'm gonna bitch here and it may or may not get long and it's not about growing pot so feel free to skip.

So I know this isn't really what the forum is for - but I'm having a rough week/month/year (like everyone else) and since you guys commented on my size you get to hear about my training woes cause they're weighing on me (badumtiss).

Like I explained before I'm a competitive powerlifter. Competitive is an important distinction for me because I do compete and I am competitive at a national level. I'm good at strength sports in a way most people don't get to be (genetics, discipline, years spent in the gym) and it's something I'm pursuing pretty hard at this point in my life. I have some goals that I believe I'm capable of accomplishing and my wife and I have agreed I'll give myself until I'm 40 to really go hard after my strength goals. That's more than 5 years but not a lot more.

A little over a year ago I dropped out of competition prep and pulled out of a meet for the first time in my life. I was in a car accident and some nerve damage in my back along with some other things made it foolish to continue preparing for that meet. It was going to the the national championships and it was going to be my first trip there. I had a qualifying total (you have to have a meet with a big enough total - the amount of your three best lifts combined - to qualify). In a powerlifting meet you get three squat attempts, three benchpress attempts, and three deadlift attempts and you try to put together your best three lift total.

Since I was already out I decided to get my bad knee looked at (I've had surgery on the right knee once already) after I re-injured it and an MRI showed a bunch of damage in there. Missing cartilage, arthritis, shredded meniscus, and a severe bone bruise where the knee was bone-on-bone. I had another knee surgery in May and two weeks ago completed PT for the rehab of that knee.

Last Tuesday I was dodging my three year old on the stairs carrying some groceries and rolled my left foot. My body is still protecting my bad right knee so my right leg wasn't really there to catch me and I went down on the left foot hard. So hard that the tendon tore a chunk of bone off the end of my 5th metatarsal:

1602648015679

I knew right away it was broken, and I was pretty heartbroken. The following day I was going to do my first squat workout since dropping out of prep for nationals. I had already picked out a meet in early 2021 that I was targeting to start prepping for in December. So anyways I go to urgent care and they Xray it and the dude there tells me it's a minor avulsion fracture and that I'll be fine in this boot but I should go see an Orthopedic specialist. He looked all offput that I didn't need a referral - but my orthopedic surgeon is gonna give me a frequent fliers punch card at some point.

My ortho didn't have an appointment open until yesterday so I go see him yesterday morning. I've researched the injury and found that 99% of them don't need surgery and heal fine on their own in six weeks. The foot did swell up pretty bad at first but it had gotten so much better I was pretty sure he was gonna tell me to keep the boot on for a few weeks and we'd be golden!

Not too bad at first:

Got worse quickly, then better:
1602649013868

So I make the appointment to see my surgeon and head in this morning. I know this guy pretty good by now and as soon as he walks in and I see his face I go "FUCK YOU BRO NO WAY! You're about to tell me I need surgery again!!!" He goes - have you seen your xrays??

Long story short they screwed my foot back together this morning and I'll be completely non weight bearing for at least 6 weeks now. Trying to stay positive, I've been held back a long long time now and I left so much on the table last time I competed. I need to see the end of this bullshit. I can't even garden now.

I had to skip several steps with my seedlings and up-pot to their final home, hopefully my wife can keep them alive from there. Keep it simple just water and EM1 in the res....

Anyways thanks for listening to me bitch and if you don't like it feel free to fuck right off to another thread.

Namaste motherfuckers.

Its rough but head high bro. I been there and it sucks like someone has taken all the drive out of life when you have your goals set back.

I have been through it. We get older and our bodies break easier and heal slower. I think your right about giving it to 40. Not a lot of time but the only words of advice I can give based on my experience is.... as eager as you are to get back at it, as mentally driven as you are, as much as you want to push the limits to make up for lost time.... don't. Spend the time on recovery that you need because if you don't the injuries will pile up... atleast my experience and like you those set backs are sooo hard on the mental state plus you put yourself out longer.

Fuck bro. I wish you a quick and speedy recovery. You should be getting a care package soon haha. Stay up brotha.

Thanks much brother! I appreciate you man you've always super cool and friendly and made this board seem like home. I'll be ok I'm just dying to go back for everything I left on the platform.

Thanks for listening to me bitch

This is good advice and I know it. It's just hard cause I went through this same thing right when I decided to drop out of nationals, then when I had the knee surgery again...patience, take my time, do all the PT etc etc. Then the week I was released - BOOM freak stupid accident and I'm the recipient of another surgery.

I know my outcome will almost certainly be good and I'm definitely going to continue to take my time to come back healthy and give myself a real shot to dominate. Ultimately this is not actually much more of a delay. What's another 6-8 weeks? In the meantime I'll keep building my bench and try to look like a freak with no neck :)

@Aqua Man I remember something you shared about your back and about making the grows as easy as possible - I still think about that and I'm trying to incorporate more of that philosophy in this next run.

Thanks for reading and for the words guys. It means something to me.

Back to my seedlings - I moved them from the jiffy pots straight into the EarthBox when I found out I was gonna have surgery and be non weight bearing for 6 weeks. I'm hoping if they survive the transition well enough then I can mostly just have my wife fill the resevoir on the EarthBoxes and not have to worry about doing much else before I'm able to help.

Here's some pictures:

He we go? lol

I've never grown from seed and this is not what I wanted so I was kind of flying by the seat of my pants but here's what I did:

- Made a drench with Azos beneficial bacteria for Jiffy Pots
- Filled a paper plate with Myco powder & azos mixed together
- Lined each of the transplant holes with Mykos WP (Extreme Gardening Myco product)
- Dipped each of the seedling pods in the drench then rolled them in the Mykos & Azos mixutre
- Filled in each seedling with soil from digging hole
- Top dressed Kashi
- Used Azos drench with a little agsil & yucca and lightly watered around each pod after transplant

For now I'm leaving the mulch covers off until I feel like the seedlings can survive the process of them being put on & holes being cut etc.

So we're a few days in and they seem to be doing ok. I haven't actually been out to the tent myself as there's some stairs between here and there but my wife is showing me pictures and they're progressing which is awesome. I figured after dumping the seedlings straight into the EarthBoxes that I wasn't going to trip on how long it may take them to take off etc, but that as long as they were making forward progress and looking healthy I'd be cool.

SO, there's one guy that I got a little bit of Myco powder on, then decided I'd spray it off without thinking...anyways he's a little lighter colored in the middle but seems like he's gonna make it too...

Ok guys would appreciate some input. I've never grown from seed before and I think they're looking pretty good but would appreciate another set of eyes.

To me there's maybe a little drooping and possibly some slightly crinkled leaves? It has been the last heatwave of the year (hopefully) out here this week so it got into the 90's in the tent a few times - but the EarthBoxes generally keep the root zone well regulated.

If you guys see anything call it out

Just as an aside I love this process. I love learning and seeing this stuff for the first time. I love growing and drying and curing and smoking the plants. I love learning about extraction and figuring out BHO. I'm starting to look into ice water hash and dry sift and rosin pressing and I'm sure I'm going to love that too.

Aside from a couple real world friends who are far away you guys on this site have made this all feel possible and fun and shit. I appreciate you fellas (and ladies). Thanks.

So I've been doing a lot of thinking and I can't run out of my own crop again. I had to buy some badder from my old connect since I can't run oil with my foot all banged up and now that I know how it should be I can't even tolerate this stuff. Rips up my throat and makes me cough. I realized I can't even just go buy a QP of decent chronic from someone and run my own oil because I can't trust how they grew or cared for the plants....SO.

This crop is just barely started and I only have enough tree left from last harvest to do about one maybe two more small runs of my own oil so I have several months of disappointing dabbing to look forward to. Anyways....

I've been holding off on buying another tent to separate flower/veg or building a little flower or lung room for two reasons:
1) As long as I'm here I'll be growing in a tent in a non-climate controlled garage and after my first grow I've decided I'll never flower in May-Oct out there again
2) We rent here, and we've already outgrown the space (4 of us) I don't want to invest a great deal of time setting up a perpetual grow just to move out (even if I could take it with me). Also, back to point one, why set up a second tent or grow space if I'm just gonna shut down flowering for several months due to heat etc.

That being what it is I'm going to maximize the room I have in my tent by making sure I have new plants ready or almost ready to go into flower as soon as my current plants (seedlings) are harvested.

I want to set up a little seedling/clone bench area to get other plants started in and wondering what the consensus was for lighting etc for that stuff. Like is it a waste of money to buy something like this:
1603210144894

I'm sure their are some cheap Chinese lights on Amazon that would be perfect for this sort of thing but I'd have no idea how to identify them - but open to suggestions!

The other things I hear the most about is T5 fluorescents and CFLs - they seem to be cheaper and possibly the easier/best solution? Something like this, I think I heard with cool white 30-ish watt CFL bulbs?:
1603210310822

Looks like they want more for small T5 fixtures....must be because people use them to grow pot:

I’ll have some crop in a couple months haha. Make the drive and I’ll gladly fork over a couple zips for a donation. I’ll let you know when, or you can keep an eye on my kush and you’ll know when it’s done 🤪 I run a couple 92w Home Depot full spectrum sensi lights in the veg tent and they do well. Lol.

Brother I may just take you up on that! Looking great over in your grow diary. I think I'm gonna make a little seedling shelf and then pop those Hawaiian beans you sent me, get a staggered crop going. I think I can fit a couple 10g pots in there with the earthboxes...we'll find out!

Ended up picking up the reflectors and one of these:

1603315028842
1603315042950
1603315054297
1603315067593

Lightbulb marketing is gimmicky but it seems to provide the right spectrum for seedlings and I can always grab some CFL bulbs if not.

Anyone have feelings about using a heating mat for seedlings? This will be in my detached non-insulated garage in San Diego. Perfect during the day but nighttime temps will be in the 50's soon. I'll take this opportunity to add another gratuitous flexing shot cause it's in my garage and I mentioned my garage and that seems like enough of an excuse:

1603315359117

Also because I'm feeling some type of way about myself here's from my last deadlift workout before breaking my goddamn foot. I got to deadlift semi heavy here (440 pounds for three sets of five reps) and was so psyched to start squatting the following week. I broke my foot two days after this:
