Really, it's the CNS17... this shit's foolproof. Even in a closet with basically no ventilation, an HPS, and desert-level humidity, this shit has pumped out some good harvests for me.

How can it really satisfy my needs?

First - 4' x 8' far too big for the amount of cannabis I require. I'm not like all you crazy potheads (). I haven't smoked in about a month and when I do have some, I'm usually only about 1 - 2g/day. Wake untz bake (before work). For skateboarding. For sleeping. Sometimes for other stuff like watching the birds at the feeder, yoga, or household chores. I have had my interest thoroughly piqued (thanks Milson, Mimed) in how I might be able to cater certain terpe/cannabinoid profiles to help with my Lyme-induced synovitis/inflammation... so, that might eventually see me growing and consuming more. But, as far as for mental health, psiolcybin mushroom µdoses have proven to be a life-changing therapy. To the point that I am so balanced that I take them only as acute remedies for especially imbalanced times... sometimes months apart... which, for someone with basically 30 years of suicidal/self-deprecating thoughts... you have no idea just how indebted I feel to those marvelous little fungi friends.

Aaaaanyway.

Second - I just plain don't like monoculture. I believe in symbiotic relationships and plant psychology (romantically, but open to the actuality). I think plants like to mingle with foreigners. I know plants do well with different species present in their ecology. I want to foster that for their good while they're alive and for my good in my pursuit as a horticulturist.

Third - My better half is not one to partake. That's unfair in my mind - to be using all this space and these resources and time... and what benefit does she get? A smelly basement, a stoned partner, and higher energy bill? That's not an equal exchange by any means.

I dunno where I'm going with this but to hash out some thoughts and maybe get some suggestions from the community as to good partner plants.
We are very open eaters and spice and herb users - both culinary and medicinal.

I've done a little bit of preliminary research before posting this and found that many herbs don't really fall into the same photoperiodism that cannabis does. Which may be beneficial or not.
Basil's flowering, for instance, is triggered by short nights and water stress (over/under watering) - perfect for 12/12.
Rosemary flower triggering is relatively unknown and seems to be temperature (vernalization), or maybe photoperiod related. Extremes, nonetheless. Great.
(I wonder that others in the Lamiaceae (mint) family will fall into this category as well. Although, Basil falls in that family... so maybe water stress or vernalization are more responsible for their flower-induction as well..?)
Leafy greens like Kale, Lettuce, and Collards are super cheap, available from our co-ops year-round. However, not photoperiod-sensitive.
Tobacco is photoperiod-sensitive the same as cannabis. Depending on rate of growth, might be a contender.
Poppy is photoperiod-sensitive opposite of cannabis. 12/12 keeps it in vegetation. Short nights trigger its flowering.
Cilantro and Parsley are photoperiod-sensitive the same as cannabis. Again, to be considered depending on rate of growth.
Tomato flowers based on age or stage of development. Great.
Pepper flowers based on sun intensity and temperature. Above 60ºF / below 90ºF. Also great.

I mention this short list because they're common in our garden and some have already been taken in for winter. Even though it's now nearly 80ºF again...

There's so much anime that, if you appreciate art and animation as a field of art, there's gonna be something for everyone if you can get past the stigma of anime as a thing. And the fucking voices... ugh. Cowboy Bebop and Samurai Champloo are great for not annoying the hell out of you with voice actors.

The aromas just keep educing by the day.
Green grapes have become red grapes... almost Concord... so luscious and mouthwatering.
Apples and maybe strawberries to support that.
Lemon-pine-spice has taken the up the background.
And skunk was passed by a few blocks ago,
Still lingering in the cabin, but the cool country air rushing through the windows takes it from your focus.

Collected a little more from Mr Man... he went without a photoshoot tonight.
I was gonna get their groove on, but I decided I should wait until I can have the lights on all day, as I intend to spray all the peripheral buds down before pollinating. So, hopefully an early dismissal from work tomorrow.

Thanksgiving will be spent alone, too.
Well, not quite.
Cat party featuring a bottle of wine to my face.
Weird projects and mushrooms ensue.
Might roll up some tobacco... haven't indulged in quite a while.
We'll see what the weather has in store.

What my 21st century tobacco habit looks like.

It's curious how admonished the plant has gotten.
Sure, it's been through the ringer with commercialization and piss-poor product management.
But so has the wheat that makes our bread flour.
The result of that terrible treatment was duly terrible.

But its place in the human heart and ethnobotany should be recognized.
And admired.

It warms my heart that people still keep steadfast to the tradition through all the scrutiny.

I'll usually take pleasure in cutting my leaves to my mood on the woodblock.
Take it outside with an aptly paired (to my mood) wine or scotch.
Light up a fire in the brick barbecue that was built with the house in the 1930's.
And light my cigarette with it.
This one was an Izmir Turkish variety.
I paired it with a Spanish Tempranillo.
The pair was not just right (none ever are.)
But it came to be.

I sat there with the moon to the east
The dancing firelight captured finitely on the rim of my glasses lenses.
The rousing of the spirits and souls of the small forest I now occupy as 'mine'...
Such ownership is lost on me as much as I'm allowed to lose it without losing my place on it.

A pair of foxes have been prowling around in the daylight.
I saw them just earlier.
I wondered if they were looking for food or scouting for a den.
My wife and I deduced the latter.
A good thing we didn't get chicks this spring.

I could hear them from time to time..
Misstepping and certainly being ashamed of it.
It's okay, darlings. Just leave my cats alone.
We'll be getting a dog two seasons from now...
So have your peace while you can.

The other dogs in the neighborhood were at it.
I forget sometimes that dark isn't means for quiet.
Some of them barking distinctly at something that drew their attention.
Some of them barking at their own neuroses.
It'll be a wonder if I can train my ranging dog to not run its mouth.

The spirits in the woods stir up again.

I close my eyes and drift off into the chromatic coiling of a snakes marvelous body enveloping my perspective.



It's my only irrational phobia.
Snakes.
I was born in the year of.
And I believe the spirits in this forest are largely made up of.
...
I suppose it's time to get rational.
