And for the record I fucking HATE Humboldt Seed Company's strains. They make GREAT smoke. But unless you are cutting every plant for SOG, the yields suck, and the plants are delicate little bitches that squeal if everything isn't absolutely perfect. I like plants that are like "ouch don't do that again", not "OH MY FUCKING GOD I'M GOING TO DIE YOU DUMB ASS".

Now that I'm popping into today's generation of genetics, I've cast a very wide net to see what strains I'm compatible with. And for the record? 30 years ago I never would have dreamed of being able to do shit like this. This? This is absolute insanity but I'm having a blast doing it.

Going to twist one up and throw another 10 hours of programming down. It's launch day for one of my clients. Yay.

You know I've had seeds go faster than some clones? I always look for a 2 week stall on clones while they get their roots down and usually veg until the plant feels right to flip into flower. But clone them up! Totally love the structure of that plant btw.

Grow room planning:
1) Plan for twice what you think you need.
2) Consider shelf/flouro combos for veg.
3) Floor drains
4) White high gloss subway tile or FRP on the walls.
5) Center a work area in the middle of each room (grow/flower). Like a potting bench.

We are in the process of planning a new house. The basement is going to be epic...

Since I am transitioning to a bonsai only grow with the exception of autos, my space requirements are much different than a super cropper growing SOG. Eg. I can fit 15 bonsai plants under a 4x2 T5 HO flouro with 1/3 of the heat. My canopy is going to be as thick as theirs. With a 1oz to 2oz goal for each plant, I'm 15oz to 30oz per grow. If 1 plant falls out then it's not the end of the world where in a SOG that's half the yield.

Plus I'm going to have 3 to 15 varieties popping out per grow, not 1 or 2. I really really like that versatility.

The funny thing about this grow guys is it is forcing me to think EVERYTHING through before I do it. I have room for 1 more light and it's already here waiting to be installed. I have 5 more varieties going to germ tonight.

My dirt mix got too rich and fried the living dog shit out of 3 of the HSC purple plants and 3 squirt. One of the squirt catastrophes is that bonsai that is now kicking ass.

The fan leaf damage was pretty freaking extreme. Nute lockout in a huge way. Expressed a lot of severe Cal/Mag deficiency. It was just a bad bad bad situation. Bad enough that I thought I was going to lose half of the plants at least. But they got transplanted, clear water only for 3 weeks. And then Little Dabbie said "Ph your water dumb ass" (except he didn't say dumb ass... out loud lol) I did and sure as shit it was 5.6 - 5.8. But in my defense, the next day it was 6.2 - 6.4. Variable ph... from my well... lovely.

Anyway during all of this, I was like experiment time. Once the plants started to grow again and the new growth was right, I removed all of the fan leaves from the Squirt plants, FIM'd the top growth shoots on both, removed inner growth on one and not on the other. On the Purple Mountain Majesties I have three variants... Total removal of fan leaves. Partial removal of fan leaves. No removal of fan leaves. All 3 of those were FIM'd as well.

Astounding results...

Both strains which had all fan leaves removed? BUSHED like BUSHED. The PPMs? Wild shit. On the one with the fan leaves left intact, the inner growth shoots are growing straight up like an indica. One the one with partial removal of the lower half of the fan leaves... lol the lower half bushed, while the upper half grows like an indica. And the one with total removal of fan leaves did the same thing the Squirt plants did... bushed out like a sativa. Damnedest thing.

I think that light and canopies have a lot to do with the decisions people make when growing, especially with LEDs. Light penetration isn't one of their strong suits I understand. If I'm wrong, please correct me. I've grown with blurples. But I got so disgusted with them that I just used them to supplement my flouros for plants in bloom. In fact I have a couple of old school ufo's that I unearthed from the stuff in storage areas.

I really like using the sun when possible. No light penetration issues. No spectrum issues. No heat issues. No "light is too close" issues. It's just fucking THERE.

My point is that defoliation isn't and shouldn't be considered to be any type of "this is the way you HAVE to do it". It's more about manipulating the plant to do what you need it to do to fit your circumstances. Pretty interesting stuff.
