Look for a massive crackdown moving forward if they are running these stories in the major financial paper in europe.

Lieutenant John Nores Jr estimates that each of the state’s 2,000-odd cartel pot farms contains an average of 5,000 plants, and that each one sucks up between eight and 11 gallons of water a day, depending on the time of year. That means at least 80m gallons of water – enough for more than 120 Olympic-size swimming pools – is probably being stolen daily in a state that in some parts is running dry as a three-year-old drought shrinks reservoirs, leaves fields fallow and dries wells to the point that some 1,300 people have had no tap water in their homes for months.

“Marijuana cultivation is the biggest drought-related crime we’re facing right now,” says Lt Nores as he pokes at a heap of plastic piping the growers used to divert water from a dried-up creek near the plantation. The theft of 80m gallons of water a day by heavily armed marijuana cartels is undoubtedly a serious concern, not least when the entire state is affected by drought and 58 per cent is categorised as being in “exceptional drought”, as defined by the government-funded US Drought Monitor.

The crisis is more severe because a decline in snowfall has compounded problems caused by the lack of rain. The state’s mountain snowpack was just 18 per cent of its average earlier this year, a situation scientists say could be repeated as the climate warms.

As a result eight major reservoirs were last week holding less than half their average storage for this time of year. Reservoir levels sank worryingly when a bad drought hit California in 1976-77, but there were fewer than 22m people in the state then, compared with 38.3m now.

But its ok for the very politicians that created the laws to fine/punish us to go ahead and waste all the water they want,
http://www.nbclosangeles.com/invest...Officials-Drought-Conservation-278236801.html
This politician has a 1 acre lot and uses over a MILLION gallons a year! Now imagine what the plant lush mega mansions of the rich use?I bet they waste more water in a year than all the potfarms could ever imagine using in 100 years.
Just like Al Gore bitching about global warming while his own house is using 30 grand+ a year in electricity and thats in an area where power is 5-6 times cheaper than most US markets.I say we start at the top with the biggest users/offenders before we crucify some guy growing 25 pot plants using 250-300 gallons a week on them, yeah like thats gonna happen...

Weather Modification aka Geo-engineering aka aerosol spraying:
http://www.agriculturedefensecoalition.org/content/weather-modification

These exponentially growing programs have no government or public oversight, limited oversight in a very few states which allow them, and no government or public oversight or consent for the rest of them. These programs change the climate, the micro-climates needed for watersheds, negatively impact tree health, and agriculture crop production. NOAA lists some of these programs but most are not listed due to their experimental nature, military classification, university experiments, and failures to notify NOAA by various states, counties, cities, weather modification companies, and private individuals and corporations who may all modifying your weather.

Yes we can get enough rain to fill our lakes by Spring but without the snow pack to replenish the lakes during the Summer dry spell were right back in the drought! It also serves to replenish the ground water , also a very important factor.

Yep but none of that Colorado water helps us up in the North parts of Cali.

True that, but! It would help relieve the pressure put on those resources. Maybe.

Waste Water from Oil Fracking Injected into Clean Aquifers
California Dept. of Conservation Deputy Director admits that errors were made

State officials allowed oil and gas companies to pump nearly three billion gallons of waste water into underground aquifers that could have been used for drinking water or irrigation.

Those aquifers are supposed to be off-limits to that kind of activity, protected by the EPA.
