Same. Nor did it ever make me money because I have never sold (nothing wrong with it, i just haven't), and so I don't have any care for bag appeal either. As much as I understand it is vital for sales. You lost me at 'bag'.

Just watered the seedlings again! They are so cute lol. Starting to see differences in leaf shape....the hazes really have such long, elegant leaves. You can also see vast differences between the black widows already. Super cool.

Pics in a bit.

One other thing while I remember: I watered including the Bio Root I took a pic of before. My wife has been absolutely raving about that stuff. She does a lot of propagating with house plants and her speed of root growth with Bio Root and rooting powder vs just with the rooting powder is noticeable enough that she keeps bringing it up to me as such a smart thing I did in introducing her to that product (so in a loving way). Fwiw the roots look great to me but I have not been paying close enough attention to how she is measuring this as she has a zillion projects going at once and they include like....cuttings she takes from random yards in the neighborhood (only where they are insanely plentiful and accessible from the sidewalk). TBD on cannabis but she has my attention.

The NL #2 was the most sativa like in the NL line, NL #5 was the most indica like. I don't see any Hawaiian genetics in the NL5, but may well be in the NL1 or NL2 per seedfinder.eu.

Here's the NL 5 X 2 description out of the old 1990 The Seed Bank catalog out of Amsterdam:

Northern Lights 5 x 2 F-1 Hybrid
This F-1 hybrid between the resin champ NL#5 and the wonderful NL #2 has made many indoor growers very happy. The plants are short, stocky. vigorous and high-yielding, truly one of the best all-around indoor plants in our collection. It has a nice juniper berry taste along with abundant resin and a great high.

Indoor Data
• Height at 100 days: 36-48 inches
• Flowering period at 12 hours of darkness 50 days
• Yield at 100 days: up to 125 grams

And here's the link for the catalog, drag down a bit.

I used to get a very good straight NL #5 out of Canada, maybe Next Generation Seeds or someone else but NOT this one:

Either way, I'll go back tonight and look for it.......FOUND IT. British Columbia Seed Company- not sure they still do it, but if you can find theirs, BUY IT. It's exactly like the original and very strong. People loved it. I stopped growing it when I switched to fem's.

Oh man that is so cool.

So he says... There appears to be two different versions of NL5 - one done in the states (Herbie) and a slightly different version done by Neville. There also seems to be uncertainty, I think, in both cases if it was straight Hawaiian or a Thai / Hawaiian cross or BX. I remember reading something by Gas of Swami Organic Seeds, who has been working with the same genetics from McAlister, about NL2 being the real deal - better than NL5. I might be misremembering...

To your point, there are definitely different NL5s...

Will keep my eyes peeled!

It seems like in 86 Neville hadn't narrowed it down to his #5 yet.

I think Greg said that the US NL5 was Hawaiian x Afghani (Steve's Cut). On a related note I always wanted to try Mr. Nice's Ortega (NL1 x NL5). And just to muddy the waters a bit more, as if they weren't muddy enough, I had seen that Marc Emry was working with an NL5 cut too in the 90s.

I think Bodhi had the original and it was a super nice pheno of it..........he was making strains left and right with it for a while but now it appears he’s moved on to other things.

I saw in that catalogue that nevil describes the F3 of NL2 as having a very strong hindu kush expression.....i wonder if you took a real deal NL5 and crossed it with a great hindu kush what kind of result you would get....

The NL 2 yielded terrible, the worst of all the NL's.......that's why it was mixed with the NL 5, to try to increase the overall yield. Don't think for a minute hybridizing it today would be at all similar to Nevil's original NL 5 X 2. To much water under the bridge now, 30 years later. But that's not to say, if you could find solid pheno's of each, that it wouldn't be worth while. And Nevil's hybrid leaned way more to the #2 side than the #5 side- in the end, it still yielded like crap. I was growing 850 plants at a time in an industrial park, all at different stages but all NL 5 X 2 and it was the only way I could make my weight numbers. All Hydroponics too........

And I did see a seed bank selling their own NL 2 X 5 seeds not long along but don't remember where...... I'll have to look for it, and I remember it got solid reviews. I looked for it briefly, but couldn't find it.

I'll share one more thing..........someone I know and trust told me this is very much like some NL's he grew in the 90's......... and you get a free pack of an early NL 5.

Interesting.....very interesting lineage indeed. Thanks!

Edit: picked up a pack. I will run that and Greg's stuff together next year. Between them i should end up with at least one good plant i hope! Could be something to make crosses with....
